I don't know why, but somehow the thick Slavic accent adds to the impact of this film, even though facts are facts in any language... for some reason, "Slav = authority on chemistry" in my brain... it's nonsensical of course, but a Mexican/American accent would not fit as well.
There are so many other science channels on RUclips but I like yours the most. Largely because of the way you make an effort to speak in a language that isn't your first language. Rarity and value aren't always linked. If it's rare but of no use either in industry, science or in an artifact such as jewelry, who would pay for it? The video stated it's worth $80/gram. There are 28.35 grams/ounce. So Iridium is worth $2268 an ounce. It looks like the current value of gold is $1166 per ounce.
I had just finished editing my comment to you to include the qualifier that rarity and value aren't always linked. In the case of a dinosaur bone, it has a scientific value and for some collectors or museums with an archeological bent, value as a show piece. I dug up a rock in my backyard. It is unique in that it is the only one from my yard, so it is extremely rare. Anyone want to buy it?
Gregory Parrott haha I read the value per ounce & deleted my comment. It's worth more than gold. Your unique rock analogy is very vague. It's not iridium or gold. But you know where I'm getting at without being circuitous & sarcastic. Iridium has more value than gold. 😎👍
The rock analogy is admittedly vague. I was trying to think of something very rare but had no correlating value. My first thought was 'dinosaur dung', but then realized that might be very valuable to archeologists, biologists, etc. As they say, 'value is in the eye of the beholder.'
My main interest in iridium is that it was for many decades used as the tipping material on the point of most quality fountain pen nibs. The nibs were either made of 14 to 18 kt. gold or steel, and the point would be dipped in a VERRRY tiny drop of molten iridium to create a round ball at the point. The ball was then split like the rest of the nib so that ink would flow through it, and polished to glide smoothly over paper. Being an extremely hard metal, it was more durable than a point made of gold or most types of steel. Pilot of Japan was the last pen company to use real iridium as tipping material. They actually bought the world's last iridium mine to make sure they would have a supplier.
It's funny because I was reading an article that they are using Iridium to treat cancer imagine Haiti the poorest country could become one of the richest countries..

BandOfBros he might be Russian but this really IS a German accent (the stereotypical one of course)
I don't get you guys. He sounds definitety Russian.
You think because he say ze instead of the that he's German haha.
Many countries say it like that. I live just next to Germany and I can tell you he doesn't sound German but eastern European.
BandOfBros yeah that is the predominant stereotype for German accents that's why I agreed with him taking in consideration a jokey / stereotypical /non accurate thought
