Feeder fishing on a big lake

  • Bream fishing on a big lake using a feeder rod and a reel loaded with 8lb braid. A new venue and not something I’ve had the opportunity to do much of in the past, due to so many big natural lakes becoming stocked with carp and commercialised, or handed over to carp syndicates.
In this video, I’m at Sewell’s Lake in Brampton nr Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. I’m supposed to be meeting up with old friends for a few days river fishing on the Great Ouse, but the river has flooded its banks and unfishable, so we head to the nearest local Stillwater on a Brampton Angling Society ticket.
Sewells Lake is approximately 20 acres in size and a little research online revealed match reports from St Ives anglers and some info about depths, contours and stock from the environment agency. Winning match weights are unassuring low - typically 5-7lb, so blanking is a real worry and I try to use the information to locate some bream.
