I love how she leads with her femininity. That’s a woman’s power. To me when she dressed down she wasn’t dressing like a guy just it was relaxed and still feminine like she said.
To be honest, I don’t really trust anything Marilyn Monroe ever said in interviews. Marilyn was a persona and carefully crafted by publicists and her studios. She had a stylist and a makeup artist and her look was meticulously planned by professionals. She was extremely shy and socially anxious. I would much prefer to read a diary of hers/ personal correspondence than any interview of the time period.
I agree, also take into account that this woman was heavily medicated and visited many therapists due to her emotional state. She was a product of the big companies and they had to "sell her" in the certain way to generate more attention therefore more money. The other thing people don't talk much about it is that she acted out sexually, she had a sex addiction problem Due to her traumatic childhood where sexual abuse was present and the fact that she never got helped to heal that trauma.
@@melis6294 I don’t feel comfortable making an assessment regarding her mental health/sexuality as influencing her personal style and fashion choices. She was marketed as a “sex symbol” and her fashion choices were not really her own. I think this interview was scripted by a studio to keep in line with her public image and that’s as far as I am willing to go on that matter. Any modern day assessment of her sexuality and/or her mental health is colored by sexist norms of the time against women and a lack of understanding around mental health and trauma overall.
As I get older (I'm in my 30s) I find that simple and chic clothes like what Marilyn wears has become my preference. That way I never feel like I'm a slave to a trend, plus the simplicity helps me understand what looks good on my body better. Thanks for the great video.
She was so ahead of her time. She told her truth and people hated her for it... probably because they could relate ? But they were scared to admit that. As a curvy woman I understand her so much! I need to show off my figure
She liked to wear fresh flowers; I liked that idea. I read that some women use to wear a bouquet of flowers on their sleeves to smell good all day. I don't know if that's true or not. The most popular flowers to do so were violets.
It is true. Deodorant wasn’t very strong, if she even used it. Most women used corn starch or baby powder in her generation. Even if you were clean, if it was hot, and the red bitch was in town, the flowers would help you stay smelling good, as the day wore on. Violets have a very strong scent that lasts.
I'm obsessed with Marilyn personal style. I love the trousers and the sweaters and i love how she has her basics then really timeless glamorous clothes. Its honestly so smart. Also i really liked the reading the book part🙂🖤
There’s a true logic to how she dressed she understood that the fit of a well made garment is more important than print or trend. She liked to play with her hair more than her clothing really and that makes sense. Having a “uniform” is pretty frugal and a very modest take on money and fashion
I can see why people would be angry by that statement out of context, but all the things that she says about clothing and fashion are very sensible things and insightful too.
She definitely selected amazing clothing! She's such a style muse. It's important to wear clothing that works well with the body you have and comfortable.
I agree with everything Marilyn said. Only difference is I do dress for myself. Meaning, I know that I do not have a model's figure. I have a naturally large bust, small waist, medium hips and long legs. When I wear clothes, I accentuate my womanly figure because it makes me appreciate my body, and I dress specifically for my figure and not how some article or blogger says I should. My body dictates my fashion choices. I find it makes me more confident dressing for my body. A man's appreciation is just a perk. 😉

I don’t agree with her outlook but I respect her and her opinions!! I do understand that these were different times. I love Marilyn’s style and beauty.
I think it sounds different than she meant it because women were supposed to be feminine and girly and she wanted to stand out by emphasising the standard.
@@Cinnamun52 She had power in her femininity, she didn't feel the need to compete with men by acting like one and constantly proving herself, like a lot of woman today. Did you know she had her own production company when most women didn't?
@@theresag1969 you said it right. I didn't mean to say she played overly feminine because she didn't have anything else. That was a product of the time. I also think she wanted to reform her insecure childhood identity.
Wow ... never thought I would have something in common with Marylin Monroe. I too wear boys jeans, but my reason is due to having thick thighs and butt, but small hips and smaller waist. Boys husky jeans are the only jeans I would feel comfortable in, due to how they are cut and sewn to fit with my body type. Though personally I prefer 1970s palazzo pants. 🥰

If y study her movie costumes, va va va boom and she inspired street style, cocktail hour style, evening, formal wear as well for the average lady as they said want to be 🌷
as a new lawyer, i get worried sometimes that if a dress up too girly or "pretty" i might get unwanted attention, so the basic black outfit and clean sober makeup is my security blanket, but i do hope to keep moving on my career and life so i feel secure enough to dress like i want for me and only for me without worrying about random creepers.
I think it would be interesting if you would do something on Italian 1960s actress Virna Lisi. She was blonde like Marilyn but had piercing turquoise blue eyes. I guess you could say she was sort of like the Italian Marilyn. Virna Lisi had a cute figure, but mostly she had a very arrestingly beautiful face.
I love what she says. Not everything i can relate with myself but thats okay. We are all different women and we can relate to someone only at some degrees , not as whole. Thats what humans are like , all different yet same at some points . But i definitely agree to one thing that whether you love something or not. If you really wanna make a wonderful impression , dress according to your body. And you'll love when you see how much difference it can make in your appearance. Also style should be a unique signature of you and shouldn't be out of the latest trends. Because trends fade but your style wont.
Wow, how amazing would it be to be able to buy one or several of Marilyn's dresses or shirts and actually wear them 🤩❤ I absolutely love her... that would be a dream come true for me

Marilyn Monroe set all the trends for the curly bob. I wish someone would talk about her hair styles.
If that occurs, I hope everyone remembers to wear their hair in a style that compliments their face, body and personal style.

One of the most beautiful & iconic woman in the world 💋
Please do something similar on Sophia Loren, I’d love to know more about her style and beauty products she uses.

Sophia uses plastic surgery.
Marilyn had surgery too, so what?

I honestly think that was Marilyn’s take too. Due to the times i think they pushed out a ‘narrative’ on Marilyn, if you get where I’m going.
I think you have a models figure . The right kind of model.
There are plenty of full figured models.
She instinctively knew how to dress for her figure
Loved her fashion sense. Feminine without all the ruffles. Super tiny waist gave her that hourglass waist.
Very interesting. It really looks like she had a stylist. I never realized she didn’t wear flower 🌸 prints either.

Billy Travilla designed most of her film costumes. His design sketches are online if you Google. They're beautiful.
