    Mary Berry is always so spirited and kind. To know her handsome and precious son was taken away from her at such a vibrant age no words still can comfort the dear mother. Thankful her daughter survived the crash but much like her mother I gather she still may have survivors regrets. But with the loving Mom, as Mary Berry, you can see the love between the daughter and mother. I would love to have her as a neighbor. You are a very lovely lady Mary Berry and best wishes and keep on being on television for us on the other side of the pond..America.

      I so much agree… but I truly think that book collection was worth SO much more…. I’d have bought it, gleefully for twice that… especially since it was HER collection !!! What is with those ‘heartless’ bidders?!?!! 😵‍💫

    Mary Berry has been a source of pride and dignity as a TV presenter. That was a cheap trick breaking her personal emotion on the telly a shite thing to do. If people had to know it can be googled. Such a kind hearted person who really shows you cooking from the old school bless her

    One more point...of the MANY issues that drove me nuts watching this. That cookbook collection was a treasure. Why not split it up into lots of 2 or 3? They likely would have gone for the total price for each one, esp if Mary threw in a current signed book of hers (her publisher would likely have done it for both the press and the tax writeoff...assuming you have the same writeoffs across the pond). SO many missed opportunities to raise more money for charity that these organizers blew! And for those saying it was so many years back, remember the price of Antiques (let alone those with a celebrity provenance) was higher then!

    How crass of the producers to make Mary repeat what happened to her son when she is clearly still very affected by it. Once they realised she was still so upset they should have cut this part of the filming and not included it. Shame on them.

      I also found that aspect of the show unpleasant, I so much wanted to put my arms around Mary. However, her testimony brings attention to the child bereavement Charity.

    • @dbulmannz

      Do you ever think Mary , who has worked in television since the 1960s , would be aware of this and either not be part of the show or refuse to be asked or filmed … they wouldn’t do any of this with out her permission..

    • @sarahstrong7174
      @sarahstrong7174 2 года назад +13

      I think Mary chose to share that personal experience because these experiences need to be shared so that people do not feel so isolated. Can you imagine going through a painful bereavement & not even feeling you can talk about It?

    • @jamesdolan4042
      @jamesdolan4042 Год назад +2

      As difficult it was for Mary to tell details of the death of her son, I think it was her choice to share the story with we the public. Also by the telling of the tragedy it leant a lot of credibility to her and authenticity to the organization she is doing the charity auction for.

    How can Gloria possibly compare the instant loss of Mary's beloved William with the slow decline and ability to say goodbye to her beloved daughter? Both absolute tragedy's that cannot be compared apart from the broken hearts left behind with just beautiful memories.

    I am 80 but as a very small child we used to visit friends of the family in Dunedin NZ . The mother was 90 and had 2 step daughters who worshipped her. I used to love looking in their cabinets aged 7. There little house was filled with beauty. I recall later years paintings by Cooper. Eveverything was left to third sister in Nelson New Zealand. I wonder where those paintings are now

    This was filmed fifteen years ago look how young they all are pity they never had internet and phone bidders the items would have sold for a lot more

    • @ellenw391
      @ellenw391 Год назад +1

      Actually, prices of antiques are less now than they were 15 years ago. ITA about the internet and phone bidders (posted as much a bit ago), but that technology existed 15 years ago, especially for a celebrity auction. As much as the hosts kept saying "they want to raise as much as possible" for the charity, I didn't see any steps taken to do that. Heck, if they put on their own auction and used her name and that of the charity, I think they would have done far better. Some of the prices were absurdly low. Those lovely high quality glass plates and the rest of the set? You'd spend more for crap glass at Walmart! Appreciate you posting the timing, but sadly it doesn't excuse the terribly low pricing IMHO

  • @christinelivesey4708
    @christinelivesey4708 2 года назад +6

    I'm sure they wouldn't have discussed the bereavement without her permission.

  • @ellenw391
    @ellenw391 Год назад +2

    These prices were INSANELY low!!! Here in the US, at any estate sale (let alone a Celebrity one) it would have earned many times more. Are prices usually this cheap across the pond?! Why in the world didn't they at least do it at an auction house that had an online component, like most do here, even the smaller ones. If folks are willing to pay the shipping, it opens up the world! They could have earned SO much more for charity!

    • @JT-qd2sk
      @JT-qd2sk Год назад +3

      Antiques are so abundant here in the U.K. that the prices are generally lower, most towns have a couple of antique shops and we have huge antique fairs up and down the country not to mention the weekly car boot sales where you can often find antiques at bargain prices

    Gloria - so how much money do you expect to raise today?
    Mary - Between 6 and 700.
    Me - Wow! I'm thinking that's really generous of Mary to be offering up some of her possessions to be donated to a charity. She must be a patron for the charity & therefore going to use some of her celebrity contacts & name to raise that much money. Wait - whaaaat? 6 or 700 ?? I thought she meant 6 or 700,000.

    How is it possible that this auction has no on line connection, no commision bids at all and not one Phone. Now you're left with a room full of bargain hunters. Or as I'd like to call them : vultures !I wonder if they charge auction fees. So they make money on charity, I sincerely hope not .Don't these people know they 're on tv?

    Pity we have to watch this, goods gained thro producing high fat, high salt meals instead of her showing people how to cook healthy meals. Same as James Martin, Kerridge and all the rest who have cooked rubbish and then needed to diet. Think about it. They unfortunately are still going
