Great tutorial. I'm still new to Sketchup, so when I came to around 6:40 where you duplicated the rails I was quite proud of myself to try a different technique, i.e. first creating a midpoint on the table surface, then selecting the two rails. I chose the rotate tool, positioned it on the midpoint and also pressed CTRL. Rotated the copy 180 degrees and came to the same result ! :)
Learn something new every day! For me, it was scaling in a negative direction to mirror objects (my old way was tedious). The other was for how to handle those darned tapers! Thanks for the video, very informative!
I guess I need to start designing my projects in Feet and Inches as I mostly just use meters. Guess using feet and inches is the more architect way of doing things. Thanks for the tutorial. This will definitely come in handy as for my projects I have to build everything.
Thanks for an informative, rapid fire run through on this design.👍 It was thought provoking and a cool design. This is consumable by someone with intermediate to advanced skills in SketchUp. With so many views and comments, this may either already be answered or it may no longer be feasible for you to answer... There was a flurry of steps at the end involving addition of shadows and other features. I don’t have a clue how to do any of those things. You might consider a follow on video that slows down those features and explains the command, where to find it and what its implications are.
Great intermediate video and very well presented, thank you. I've never done anything like this before and I need to design / build two desks. both desks require a 'keyboard' drawer, where I have to use specific drawer runners / slides. How do I add these in - I have the measurements from the manufacturers site, but until the drawer has been measured, and allowances for the 'slides / runners' at each side, I won't know the proper width of the table top. Any advice please?
A simpler way to get the rotated parts is add a corner/corner diagonal line and rotate them about the center. It will save many steps. Also the computer usage "should" be lower as it doesn't have to calculate the minus scale.
Hello, superb tutorial many thanks! I'm hoping to produce some exploded diagrams to submit to a magazine for publication would my sketchup ones be ok to use without infringing anything?
as long as you are creating something from scratch, it doesnt matter what program you use. just like creating an image from scratch in photoshop, doesnt suddenly make it adobe's property. i could be just misunderstanding your issue completely but when you create something original, its yours. you own it no matter what you used to make it.
When I made the circles to make the screws won't go down when I try to push them down. It's like they disappear when I try to. (I know someone already commented something like this but I just don't understand)
Hey Aaron, first off, great videos. I have a question, what rendering engine do you recommend? for free :) and no watermarks? I have been checking the extensions and I cannot find anything good for free.
i have sketchup 2016 but my ui doesnt look like yours do you have a theme or skin of some kind cause i really dont like this one that comes with it by default
Ájáy Dindayal if you have windows 10 then it's automatically like that and because Aaron has windows 7 it's a different then your program of sketch up 8
I tried to follow your instructions but when I drew a circle to make the screw hole then tried to pushed it down it wouldn't go down like yours did. but it did get pulled up if I pulled it up. Can you tell me what's wrong?
+Trang Hoàng never mind, I figured that out :) I forgot to click edit component and it got pulled up because I was creating something new out of it, but it didn't get pushed down because it has to do with the component. Aha!

Hello aaron, I am facing a real problem regarding on making groups because when triple clicking my framing on my writing desk the table top is also becomes selected. How can i triple click the frame without selecting the Top
Typically what I would do in a situation like that is duplicate the object and delete the items you don't want in the group. Creating groups that are attached to unselected faces will prevent them from grouping properly.
Nice video, trying to figure out how you used some features... like when you changed the opacity of the top of the leg, near the supports, to erase unwanted lines... also... when I tried to put in my screw holes on the under side of my table it wasn't allowing me to counter sink, so... first off I realized my guide lines were not on my under side of table top but on the under side of table supports... fixed that, then tried again... still not working... so exploded the component of the table top... anyways... fixing the mistakes I make, as I go, is helping me to learn the program better... good luck everyone, Thanks for the video... looking forward to improving my skills.....
I think that when he changed the opacity to delete hidden unwanted lines he used the 'K' key, but I can't find what the name of the tool is or where to toggle it with the mouse. But K (in my case) does what you mean.
I like the tutorial but what is holding the legs on to the table. They have screws from the wedges but the wedges are not connected to anything. Nor are the 4 frame bits?
Oh My God! Why didn't I watch this years ago? I had no idea SketchUp was this easy. I have been struggling and doing so much unnecessary work. And for what? I am kicking my own backside right now.
Please do a turorial on all fast keys, if you know what i mean. Would be easier to "copy" or paste without firts going to menu. Do a tutorial on all keys you know please.
your videos are really helpful, just been using it for a day now and these videos are epic. Does anyone else know how i can buy sketchup just for myself??
There is a free version of SketchUp which is really all you'll need if you just want to create things. The paid version just offers more drafting and professional options. You can download the latest version from their website.
+Aaron Bishop I Wana use it for furniture designs etc do you think the free version will work for that? where can I get the free version coz I got the pro version which is 30 days free trial.
Get the free version and with it you can do a house never mind a table :) can be used for all project and you can add plugins from other programs . you can also go to google and write in '' plugins for sketchup''
I am doing my homework and I would really appreciate it if you could help because I have to make this robotic arm on Sketchup and I don't know how to! 😵 thanks 💕
Wow bro nice video but you neglected to explain the little things what you are doing, youre not saying how to do it you jus said " so we do this.." Would reallly help of you took this idea

Pure joy to watch/listen/learn! Big thanks!
WOW! I've been using Sketchup for nearly a week now, and this vid has helped me a lot!!!
Always fun watching an expert!
Great lesson. I want to learn to use SketchUp to mock up small precision parts. This is a perfect start.
I've been thinking up a few more tutorials to do when I get some time, this would be perfect! Thanks for the idea.

Annie's Adventures too I’ve had soft for over a year. Stagnant‼️. But after tNice tutorials video I’m nice tutoing and rolling
Aaron, good vids (Y) what's the name of the piano song at the beggining?
Hey Aaron, first off, great videos. I have a question, what rendering engine do you recommend? for free :) and no watermarks? I have been checking the extensions and I cannot find anything good for free.
It would be better and faster to make a component for these holes but nice work ! love it :)
Thank you for this explanation. But is there no Mirror function in Sketchup? Like mirror feather or mirrot body. I use this regulary in Siemens NX.
If you use the scale feature to -1 that inverts/mirrors the current object
When you are doing it this way can you print out cut lists w/ dimensions for each individual component that you created?
You can with SketchUp Pro.
Thank u bro it relly works
Really works, wit
I'm a beginner, how do you move around while still using the tape measure?
To orbit, click and hold the scroll wheel on your mouse; to pan, hold down Shift and click the mouse wheel.
thank you
Hi Aaron, can I use this software for product packaging design? if not, can you recommend any software for me... many thanks! btw love your videos ;)
SketchUp isn't really ideal for designing packaging, for that I would use Adobe Illustrator. Cheers for the compliments!
AutoCAD.
hi ! wich style do you use?
i have sketchup 2016 but my ui doesnt look like yours

great tutorial, im trying to work out how to curve the bottom of the legs on two faces instead of tapering any ideas on how to do this
This video is very useful for me

hello what is your recording program
rinke de Hoop Fraps
rinke de Hoop I used to use Fraps, but it's an incredibly unoptimized program. Now I use ShadowPlay.
+Aaron Bishop Recording your desktop with Fraps? How?

This part was left out assuming those sections would be glued and nailed, but you can use your imagination.
