Heated arguments have ensued on many occasions where I just tell them "do what the f___ing manual says to do". Drives me crazy that people think they know better than the engineers that designed the product and wrote the manual.
This is a common question and the answer is yes. Our installation instructions explicitly prohibit installing the TS4 with the gland seals facing upwards. @astro_sun_pv9050 get away from this product. Many fires started from faulty products. Insurance backed our company and tigo settled as they were wrong. Please look into other products like solaredge or yaskawa. Chint solar and tigo are straight shit.
Would it be beneficial at all if i only install one of these on the 1 panel i have that has a shade issue every morning, bringing down the power from my other 7 in the string?
You could just install one but it will need the CCA and TAP to have full 25 year warranty coverage. At that point, you may as well install 7 more and have full monitoring on all modules of your array. You will also get reclaimed energy on the modules and the optimizer will reduce module mismatch for the lifetime of the system.

Connecting the TS4s together first and then to the module will not destroy the module, but it could cause abnormal TS4 behavior. Always connect the TS4 to the module first and then to each other. Pro Tip: If you connect the TS4s to the modules on the ground then you will never mess up this part of the installation sequence.
Will the voltage ever exceed the VOC of a panel with a tigo optimizer installed? I dont know if these drop the amperage and increase the voltage to optimize between panels.
Great question! No, the Tigo optimizer will not increase voltage over Voc. We are a buck-only optimizer and we only operate that way when it is required.
