He used her to make it through and did it with no consciense or remorse. She'll always be the best thing that ever happened to him. Sure he's regreting it but too angry that his plans/ relationships thereafter did not work out. So all his steam is stemming from his broken emotions that he choses to take off on his ex-wife when she has nothing to do with how his life is now turning out.

My understanding is, he was working long hours becoming successful. When a very attractive man becomes successful, especially in the movie industry, women come out of the woodwork’s throwing themselves at him. Some wives can’t live with the rumors and lies told by the tabloids, and I understand.
