    I own a 959 that was made in 2002, the receiver is indeed superb, very sensitive, yet very quiet.

    My Cobra 200GTL started to have issues so swaped in my DX959 that I had never used since buying on ebay and have to agree with your evaluation wholeheartedly! Now my defacto base CB and I have some pretty good base stations inc CPI and Stoner!

    Good review. I enjoyed watching it. Much better than many so called reviews for radios and radio equipment on here.
    When I buy my DX-2547 I'll buy this for the Landcruiser.

      My Stryker 955 is an excellent radio for SSB or AM, and it shines on SSB. You don't need a power mic for this radio stock mic works just fine! I get tons of positive reports of how clean and crisp this radio sounds over the air. Solid buy.

      I think the best SSB radio is Stryker SR-955. One of the finest radio I ever owned. Using 955 radio with Stryker SR-A10 CB Antenna.

      It's due to band conditions that your radio performed so well. Everybody's radio will talk farther when propagation is favorable for DX.

    Great rigs. I had one that I ran with a RM Italy KL200 amp or a Palomar 225 amp. Real screamer in AM mode. I had one with the LesComm 120 channel frequency expansion kit (26.515 - 27.855 MHz) and open clarifier (TX/RX). I ran it with an Astatic 636L and an Astatic M6BD104 amplified mic. I had to back the mic gain down to 50% so it didn’t over-modulate.

    **************About my Stryker SR955HPC 10 meter radio*****************
    My Stryker SR-955 HPC is the best mobile radio I've ever owned! Having AM/FM/SSB. Having 80+ Watts of power. With Echo. Lots of surprises and all good. (You can read about my SR-955HPC here: strykerradios.com/store/10-meter-radio-955hpc). I read extensively about it but the amazing filters were not mentioned. The receive is amazingly clear. Everything works and very well. I replaced an RCI2950 that cost 50% more when new. Very happy new Stryker owner!

    what is the radio like for frequency stability on ssb? some of these newer galaxy/ranger radios have a very bad drift compared to the older cobra/president/superstar radios with uniden pcbs.

    I just purchased and set it up in my shack as a base station. My question is Modulation. when I talk into the mic the modulation needle doesnt move when switched to MOD? I also don't completely understand the talk back feature?
    I am using a Falcon 2400 watt 11 meter dipole antenna in my attic. The swr is perfect according to the meter .

    I have not used my galaxy 55 in 14 years. Just wondering why it has a red , yellow and a ground wire. What is the yellow one for . HOT ?

    • @LifeIsTooShortForQRP
      @LifeIsTooShortForQRP  10 лет назад

      I can't find any reference to a yellow power wire for the 959. Are you sure it is a Galaxy 959 and not a different radio? Mostly a third yellow (or orange) wire on a CB is a wire that is used as backup power for a channel memory feature (which means the wire would need to be connected to a constant 12V source) , but the Galaxy 959 does not have such a memory. So you your third power wire is a mystery to me, sorry

    I have two Galaxy DX-959 CB radios, one in the house and one in the mini-van that my girlfriend and I own and what GNF means is Galaxy Noise Filter, don't ask me why though unless it is to filter out of world noises here, who knows? lol

  • @eccarter
    @eccarter 7 лет назад +1

    Why do your LSB sound so much better than mine. I have a KL 203p Italy amp. I have the same CB radio.

    • @LifeIsTooShortForQRP
      @LifeIsTooShortForQRP  7 лет назад

      If your SSB does not sound good, it could be a frequency error on the internal sideband injection frequency (10.695 MHz) . Depending in what direction the error is, it can make the sideband sound tinny, without any lows, or muffled, without any highs. If this is the problem, the sideband will sound like that for both the receiver as well as the modulated signal. Of course it also could be caused by the KL203 amp, check with another nearby station if the modulation sounds better without the amp.

    I have been the Stryker radio for several weeks in my vehicle and have been
    very impressed with the functionality and quality of the radio.
    The stock microphone is paired very well to the radio; however, you will
    achieve even better audio quality if a quality dynamic mic is used with
    the radio. I have received very good reports on the audio while using
    an Astatic 636L microphone with the radio ($60 at any Pilot or Love's
    truck stop). The radio is also paired with a Wilson 1000 magnet mount
    on my setup which is also an excellent mobile antenna.
    The radio has a large and effective heat sink (cooling fins) on the back of the
    radio that sticks out a bit...so be sure to check your mounting space /
    clearances before performing an install.
    Software to customize the radio is available for download at the Stryker website (strykerradios.com). The
    software allows customization of frequencies assigned to channels in
    each band as well as customization of roger beeps and radio operating
    parameters. (6) roger beeps may be programmed and individually assigned
    to individual channels. Especially nice is the ability to set operating ranges for voltage, max SWR, and max key down time...all of which serve to protect the (4) MOSFET output transistors from damage.
    Finally, there are few radios that look as SWEET as the Stryker SR-955HPC.
    There is a fairly large signal meter to the left of the face plate and
    the back-lighting on the face plate looks amazing...especially at night.
    There are several RUclips videos out there on this radio as well as other
    reviews, so check those out. Buy with confidence, this is a rock-solid
    transceiver and you won't be disappointed if you purchase one.
