I remember watching one interview where Andrew Lloyd Webber said that the violin represented Christine and the cello the Phantom. That assignment of roles is put to such beautiful use here.
"Floating, falling, sweet intoxication. Touch me. Trust me. Savor each sensation. Let the dream begin. Let your darker side give in To the harmonies which dreams alone can write: The Power of the Music of the Night!" Thank you, Sir Andrew, for making this song take flight!
*Sniff!* ...only a cello or a solo violin could make this beautiful song sound even more poignant than it has to me in Michael Crawford's rendition. He's my favorite musical Phantom, bar none! :-)
My favorite song from the entire musical & ever! This is at the top of my list of songs to be played at my wedding, besides All I Ask of You! This is also my new lullaby!
The music here is an unaltered excerpt from the Phantasia Suite, not a compilation of seperate instrumentals. It's not surprising that the section in question sounds so similar to the movie soundtrack since both recordings had the benefit of full orchestras rather than a smaller pit orchestra, and both were conducted by Simon Lee.
It feels WRONG to post a comment, or do anything for that matter, while listening to this song. I can't multitask while this is playing. Yes, this song has driven me, the queen of multitasking, to be incapable of doing anything other than listen to this song in wonder.
Lauren Fletcher I'm watching this now in the Philippines I had just watched the New York cast perform on their last day on tour here which was last Saturday, and I am in TEARS AGAIN. MY HEART! ❤️🎭😭

I love the part at 3:28-3:57 That's the movie version part from the 2004 The Phantom Of The Opera movie.
Travis Wolken me too its just gorgeous
For me, this is the most, beautiful music, ever written!!
"Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation.
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination.
Silently, the senses abandon their defenses,
Helpless to resist the notes I write,
For I compose the Music of the Night.
Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world.
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before.
Let your soul take you where you long to be!
Only then, can you belong to me.
Floating, falling, sweet intoxication.
Touch me, trust me. Savor each sensation.
Let the dream begin. Let your darker side give in,
To the power of the music that I write.
The Power of the Music of the Night!
You alone can make my song take flight.
Help me make the Music of the...Night!"

You alone can make my song take flight....
Help me make the music of the......... night.
