Hey! it's basically the "thai superman" as we call it in Muay Thai. Although sometimes you'll just use the roundhouse as a fake instead of fully extending.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial it's a good name because the mechanics of the punch are reminiscent of a superman, if you're good you can use the retraction of the kicking leg as a counterweight to punch even harder! I teach it to people to struggle with their kicks getting caught! P.S love your work Gabriel, keep it up!
Hey Gabriel, you said in a video back in january your goal was 10k subs by end of the year. 38k now. I predict youll crack the 100k by december. The content is really some of the best found anywhere, so you deserve every single one of them!
Adesanya did this against Brunson and dropped him, he occasionally uses here and there. But aside from him and Tenshin Nasukawa, I rarely see anyone using it
@@GabrielVargaOfficial Bro 3 or 4 videos a week is still a WHOLE LOT of videos!!! I thank you for giving us so much quality content man. You're one of the best martial artists on youtube.
Thank you for another great video champ. This is the best RUclips channel, with the best community on RUclips. And it's all because you lead by example Gab 😊🙌
This technique is awesome...I don't remember who it was, but a Muay Thai Legend used to do this and called it the Cobra Punch. I've heard it called a "Fake Superman" also...for me is one of my go to techniques
This is so cool! I always use it in sparring after some high or middle kicks so the fake works better , learned it in Amsterdam! Love your tutorials btw amazing instructionals!
What’s funny is I don’t train combos but I got in a real fight recently were this guy said he was gonna kill me so I I threw my hardest right kick but stayed centered like mauy Thai then decked him w my overhand right and he literally fell down from the kick as I hit him in the face w my right. Greatest victory of my life
Talk about timing. I used this very technique once this afternoon in technical sparring, it’s a beauty. Liam Harrison uses the switch kick to jab version also, works well for him. Thanks again Gabriel for amazing content, I never miss a video and often repeat some coaching tutorials several times over.
As a southpaw it works beautifully against orthodox stance. Same stance u would prefer the switch kick and the power jab. I love when they try to catch your leg.
So glad someone finally talked about this, Ive been crazy about it ever since I saw that one video of a kickboxer vs a kyohushin dude, where the kickboxer dropped the karate dude with that combo.
kongsak sitboonmee for one of the best exemple of this and you see him doing it very often. the intent is slightly different though, rather than looking to open the opponent for the cross he uses it as a deterent for catches so he can continue to blast away at the arms with absolute confidence ( at least it seems ). He also retains devastating power on the kick because of course he does, he's kongsak. for a fight where he's looking to land the cross you can check out his fight vs kaiwanlek. he feints the cross, dash forward with a kick like he's a video game character and finishes with a cross almost in one motion.
On the point of turning over the hips and chest, I think it was the Sensei Seth channel who recently highlighted that the standing leg/rear leg is used to PULL. He said it's something that almost never gets mentioned and that's my experience as well. I dont know yt etiquette but a video on this channel about thisnwould be great.
I personally like to throw a right body kick and use the momentum of pulling the leg back to throw a powerfull long left uppercut. The left uppercut comes from a weird awkward angle which catches people by surprise, but is surpisingly powerfull if you execute it correctly.
Got to love the combo videos, kicks to punches or punches to kick proper kickboxing !!!,I think only problem with this technique don’t think either of them are knockout ones, knee to left hook was sweet though,me personally as a southpaw find the rear left cross to get them to block, get head off the line kick follows behind it similar to tj dillashaw
Very cool technique! Can you put it together with the hook spinkick combo (left hook use the rotation from the hook to throw the spinkick really fast after each other) that would be a killer combo starting with very little power in your first kick just like you do here and end with a really hard spinkick, you are perfect to pull that 4hit combo of like a full auto burst..
Hey Champ, awesome content...any chance you can provide fight info on taking a hit from an opponent be it a punch or kick, elbow etch, or do I just tell them to harden up =)
man! i used to do this all the time but after kicking i did not bring my foot back, ie starting in orthodox st i used to kick with rear leg and after kicking landing in southpaw stance simultaneously letting go of my cross
Hey gabriel I think you can do rotation on the kick of this technique as long as you then throw the punch like if it where a superman punch. What do you think about that? I'm not sure if it's a better as for example it unbalances you. But wanted to hear your thoughts about it.
so mr Gabriel Varga did you get my comments of if im going to learn sanda, kyokushin karate, taekwondo itf, muay thai, savate, combat sambo the best combat sports of all time good, effective in self defence, street fighting and work in mma i have to be not just martial artist but fighter and boxer that means i have add bjj and boxing to my arsenal and the money i win from boxing and mma i will use it learn and train in those other combat sports, covid 19 ends i will train in boxing first then mma and the rest well you know
You must have missed my message before. Choose 1 stand up and 1 ground. 4-6 is too many styles. It's hard to get really good at just 2. Probably muay thai and wrestling for mma.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial hey but i chose the 6 combat sports that are good, effective in self defence, street fighting work in mma and are the best of all time and the rest well you know im 21 and martial arts have no age limit when covd ends then i will start in boxing than mma and well you know
Hi Gabriel thankyou for this video man its really usefull info. Question: i am a right-handed southpaw and train my left side really often, only when i throw a left roundhouse kick on a bag i have my leg as you said tense, with my foot like a person would stand and not how u said; straight as your shin. Is that a bad habit i should get rid of or doesnt it effect much? Keep up the work man, love out of the Netherlands!
Definitely one of the humblest guys I've seen here and Wonder boy! Providing free knowledge and with great detail!
Anthony Pettis and Izzy Adesanya use this technique a lot
Hey! it's basically the "thai superman" as we call it in Muay Thai. Although sometimes you'll just use the roundhouse as a fake instead of fully extending.
That's a great name for it.
I was never taught it so we made up our own name "round kick to cross".
Not as good as yours.
I've heard "Cobra punch". I use it every sparring session. Super efficient 😊.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial it's a good name because the mechanics of the punch are reminiscent of a superman, if you're good you can use the retraction of the kicking leg as a counterweight to punch even harder! Rick Rufus broke Changpuek Kietsongrit's jaw with this technique in that legendary fight.
Adesanya uses this one all the time. His gym City Kickboxing calls is “2x4”
This channel is literally a goldmine... Thanks dude for the great content! Again!
Adesanya does a beautiful question mark kick to punch, he used it on brunson. brilliant video explaining the mechanics as per
this is literally the most underrated and legitimately informative fight related channel
I believe Rick Roufus popularized that move a while ago but it's somehow underused today. Glad you brought it back!

It´s almost like a variaton of a superman punch!! Great combo Coach.
Adesanya did this against Brunson and dropped him, he occasionally uses here and there. But aside from him and Tenshin Nasukawa, I rarely see anyone using it
Saenchai does it a lot
I always used it, learned from a RUclips video called old school vs new school Muay Thai, in the view it was called Thai Superman
Bro how do you post so much content so quickly...
I'm a filming machine. It's not that hard when I'm not in training camp. Once I am in camp I'll have to pull back to 3-4 videos a week.

Love this move it was something i picked up on naturally it feels smooth once you get it down good
Wow I've been playing around with this combo, but I couldn't get the balance to add power to the cross. Your tip about the hips really helped out!
Glad it helped!

I used to do this technique in training and sparring.

Masvidal LOVES to throw rear body kick to cross
What a great charnel !
could a please make a cardio and weights included workout for fighters?
I love this technique especially after watching jiri do it with fake flying knees lol
Nice 👍👍👍

It’s very similar to Superman punch but obviously instead of faking with the kick you actually throw it
In Muay Thai, this is popular actually. Sangmanee is well known for kick to-punch.
More feints. Interesting vid. 👍
I land it all the time from Southpaw. Works like a charm.
I really like doing this of the right low kick with a cross or of the switch kick tot the liver with a jab. Very Lucien Carbin
I like throwing something similar except front leg roundhouse to the inside of the leg followed by jab cross.

That's a good idea! I sometimes throw a long left hook as I put down my right foot, but I'm gonna try the uppercut next time.
The signature move Rick Roufus used against Changpuek that broke his jaw.
It’s actually not confirmed if that’s the specific strike that broke his jaw, that’s just what the subtitle says on the popular video.
Rick Rufus used this technique a lot. I saw it in his legendary fight against the thaiboxer (cant recall his name)

It is basically a superman-punch on steroids.
Great video 👍... hey whats your advice on weight training for fighting?
man! i used to do this all the time but after kicking i did not bring my foot back, ie starting in orthodox st i used to kick with rear leg and after kicking landing in southpaw stance simultaneously letting go of my cross
I did this unknowingly in Sparring and it seems to always land I'll stick with this as a signature move
Shout out to stylebender - been trying to figure out how to pull this off fluidly ever since I saw him use it, this tutorial definitely helps!

I personally don't superman out of the kick but I think it would work fine.

I would say both are fine because you can tense your ankle/foot whether toes are pulled or pointed. I use both depending on the situation.
@@GabrielVargaOfficial alright man, i was worried now that it is my weaker side, thank you so much!!💯❤️
How do you defend against same side combos? (Like the one Leon and Gaethe used in Salt lake city) Anyone got a link to a video? Thanks
Could you (and this is just me asking) throw your round kick, snap style like in karate, then on the pull back, just kick back into a Superman cross?
For sure. That is definitely one way to do it.
Can’t thanks more
