    I’ve found that both sheening inks and shimmer inks are not only more difficult to clean out of pens, but are also prone to clogging the feed for the nib which can be a bit irritating. Diamine Garland and Diamine Best Wishes are green inks with shimmer and sheen. Both have a red sheen and Garland is more of a teal color. You should give them a try

    The Diamine Coral is similar in colour to the coral of a scallop, which is very yummy. Diamine are a fantastic company. I wonder if JRR Tolkien would have used the wondrous inks available today when illustrating his works. He mainly used a dip pen but what fantastic writing he did with it.

  • @sistergoldenhair0727

    Coral is very orange to be. The smoke on the water and desert rose are my favorites here. You are right that the ochre resembles SBRE Brown but as you indicated, SBRE Brown has tons of shading! Once these inks dried I did not like all the red in the smoke on the water. That majestic blue is really lovely too! The poppy red is gorgeous too!

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  3 года назад

      I think you've hit the nail on the head there in why I don't like Smoke on the Water much, it's due to the red.

    Diamine Sargasso Sea is the most saturated blue I have used. Similar to Majestic Blue but more saturated and no sheen. I often just refill an empty Sargasso Sea cartridge with water and the ink comes out lighter but still smooth. You can combine Sargasso Sea and Majestic Blue to create Faux Parker Penman Sapphire

    • @twitch7515
      @twitch7515 11 месяцев назад

      I appreciate the mixing tip! In the eye of this bee holder, Sargasso is too purple and Majestic is nice but not nice enough that I'd reach for it over a multitude of other options. Tips on how to use up both inks is appreciated! Do you recall the approximate ratio of each ink?

    SBREBrown is made by Diamine and filled and sold by Akkerman (some say most of their line is actually Diamine). I would still go for the Akkerman bottle because it's so unique. It would be interesting to compare the two and decide if they are identical or in any way different.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  3 года назад +5

      Correct regarding Akkerman ink being made by Diamine. Although the bottles are the best around, you can get a better bang for the buck, by just buying similar colours from Diamine and refilling the bottles. That said I have a lot of Akkerman inks that I love and would much rather buy the Akkerman variants, even though they are a lot more expensive than Diamine inks.
      The closest I've seen to SBRE Brown is Diamine Ochre, almost identical, you can tell them apart side by side but in a writing sample you would be hard pressed to see a difference.

      @@belle_bookworm2533 I love November Rain. One of my favorite forest greens but does appear very dark and often covered by beautiful metallic pink sheen. I left NR in a pen for several months and it spontaneously began to feature some electric blue sheen! I've been unable to replicate the effect, sadly.
      Smoke on the Water is also frequently covered in sheen. "Smoky" is a very apt description. I wound up not liking how hazy the tealish color appears. I wish that postage was cheaper. I have plenty of inks I'd be willing to sell or give away some limited samples, including Smoke on the Water.

    Oh gosh! I’m falling even deeper in the rabbit hole now 😅 I’m a newbie on fountain pens & inks & I just got my first fountain pen (Lamy Safari in Terra Red), F nib & some Lamy T10 cartridges in black. I’m looking into buying some 30 ml bottles of Diamine ink since I got these recommended to me as a good starter ink. Now I want even more of them 😅 But I’ll put some on my wish list for Christmas too so maybe I’m lucky enough to get some. But I want some before that because I’m impatient 😂

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  Год назад

      Congrats ont he Lamy Safari! Diamine 30ml bottles are great, although the neck opening to try and fill a pen from them isn't as great, but you can get a good 30+ fills of ink for only a few £/$ so they are always great little bottles to pick up. You might want to decant the ink into a smaller inkwell / cone to fill a pen from though if you're using a converter to make it easier to fill the pen.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  3 года назад +1

      Well funny thing Chris, I switched from what was a very good £250 Audio Technica headset with boom mic to a £100 Blue Yeti that everyone raves about to try and remove the bonk/bounce noises from the boom mic and occasional pop noises I get on videos. Unfortunately the audio is nowhere near as good as the Audio Technica mics. If only Audio Technica did a desktop mic similar to the Blue Yeti!
      The audio is definitely more tinny and less bass than the Audio Technica mic. I still don't think for overall sound quality you can beat Audio Technica.
      I've been playing with filters in production and I think after several weeks of trying, I think I can minimise the tinny and get it a little more bass back to what it was, but there will be around 20 videos I've already recorded with the Blue Yeti that will have more tinny audio unfortunately. Depending on when I release videos, the audio may either be from the Audio Technica mic or maybe from the Blue Yeti mic.
