    Eugene B. "Lucky" Fluckey eventually became an admiral, and he wrote the book Thunder Below, which is the submariner's bible.

      Weirdly enough, I think both "Thunder Below" and "Submariner's Bible" were both nicknames he earned in college.
      I'm kidding, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

    Eugene Fluckey, who later became a Rear Admiral, was also able to barter a deal to get the navy to give him a better mattress (inner spring type) and a case of beer which he shared with his crew along with a cake the cook made whenever they sank something large. He wrote a book called "Thunder Below" that talks about the events on board the USS Barb. One smart and ingenious guy.

    Nic don't do no bad videos. 😀 Reacting to anything he's done, from his early TT videos like this one to his later YT videos, is going to be a priceless educational experience. I mean, you could do a reaction once a week every week and so long as he kept up his schedule you'd never run out of new TFE videos. 😀
    You two (and momma as well) are brilliant and I love your work. 🙂

      "The most beautiful, slightly alcoholic, broom fearing man... the electrician."
      The first two terms may be him referring to himself. 😛 The third is technically an accurate description as each of the five professional electricians I know admit that they are often "forgetful" when it comes to cleaning up after themselves in their workspace. As one says, "That's what apprentices are for." 😛

    You need to watch "Operation Petticoat" a fictional movie about a US WW2 submarine with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. Part of the movie involves sinking a truck.

    Ok, what is it with good ol' 'Murica and submarines? Sinking them with potatoes. Strategically relocating them to Chicago. And now using them to sink trains. This is getting ridiculous.

    • @steeljawX
      @steeljawX 8 месяцев назад +7

      That was during WWII. The "f*ck around" stage where EVERYONE unfortunately were subject to "find out" what happens when you mix the USA and submarines. To be brutally honest, it's really just the US Navy in general. The US Navy has a lot of weird accolades. Like the battleship with the shortest fuse that's also in the same class as the battleship that CTRL+X'd an armed island off of Vietnam, to a destroyer with such bad luck they almost sank the Mighty Mo with President Roosevelt on board, to two ships that basically refused to sink. The US Navy just has some oddities in it.

    I'm also having a hard time like Millie is with Thomas in the background. Reason being is that I just watched "Bullet Train" the other day and it's kind of coming round full circle. The setting is a Japanese shinkansen or bullet train and there's a British assassin character in the film who can only associate and socially read people as various Thomas the Tank Engine characters, so it's one gigantic circle of, "Oh wow; coincidences."
    If you want suggestions for other short hand videos, namely ones to pair up for slightly longer videos since his early stuff was TikTok based; you can do the "USS Laffey" and "USS Nevada" which could be described as "USS Unsinkables" as they both went through a bit and refused to sink even through experiments. The videos on the "USS Iowa-Class Battleships" and the "USS New Jersey" specifically, which is an Iowa-class battleship. Both talk about different stories of how enemies decided to f*ck around and then hide behind Mother Nature and the Iowa-Class just doesn't care about geography. There's also two about British "tom foolery". Namely the "Drip Gun" and "Death Ray's and Carrots." I mean there's the other obvious short British based one which is the nuclear chicken powered land mine, but that kind of goes with pigeon guided bombs and bat bombs. If you want a longer story of another crazy American, there's the one about Lewis Millet and how he brought back Bayonet charges in the Korean War to the dismay of both the North Korean army and the US government.

    The History Guy had an episode about the USS Barb and Eugene "Lucky" Fluckey if you don't enjoy this creator's colorful language. I have a signed copy of Admiral Fluckey's book Thunder Below. He was a far greater submarine Captain than a writer, but the book is still interesting because of the exploits of the Barb.

    Ugh, like I said, this one is short. You could have/should have combined this with the video about the USS O'Bannon. Just the ridiculousness these two ships pulled on the Japanese during WWII, it's a shared theme that would work in a slightly longer video.
    Also, keep in mind the "parameters" of why sub commanders were only allowed 4 war patrols. They were either gonna be too cautious or too reckless.......Apparently T-boning enemy cargo vessels with your sub is not considered reckless enough to count. Apparently slipping through a mine field to get into an enemy harbor to then bring the house down isn't considered reckless. Those are bonus points that'll earn you that 5th war patrol.
