I've headed down to Chinatown in Manhattan every year for Lunar New Year. It's always an incredible celebration to be a part of. Even in 2020 as the pandemic was kicking off, I still managed to make it down and wander around. But this year? I missed 99% of it. I was on calls and had a treatment due. When an hour opened up in the late afternoon, I grabbed my camera and quickly rode my bike across the Manhattan bridge to see what I could find. What I found was that the party was basically over. You know that feeling after something special happens and everyone just kinda lingers? That's what this was. The stragglers and hangers-on who didn't want to go home yet. I rolled a few clips and headed back to DUMBO to turn in my treatment. It's not what I was thinking I would see, but it's different than any other year of photographing, that's for sure.
