I covered an instrumental version of this song last night and then started searching to see how many other artists choose this song to cover. Its well into the hundreds already.I have officially listened to over 100 versions of this song today and every single one has been superb. What a great man he was. and what a great job you did on this.

A beautiful song that surely everyone has heard before. All who cover it do a creditable job - it's just one of those songs.
Match a perfect song with a perfect voice, and you get Cat Jahnke's tribute to Leonard Cohen. It is mesmerising, and a fitting valé to yet another musical icon claimed by 2016.

Cat...You've done it again and taken a massive favourite and made it your own. Not easy to do with a song covered by just about everyone but this is so good.!!! Guess I shouldn't be surprised as it's what you seem to do regularly..

This is just magnificent. Your voice is really mesmerizing, and the new sense you've created combining your own elements with the classic song is touching the strings of the soul. I was listening holding my breath.

I always thought it was a song of love and understanding. Maybe joy, maybe sadness, but more love than any one human heart should have to endure.
Cohen was too damn beautiful for this sad world.

Thanks Cat! Such a Mesmerizing voice…& compelling rendition …I like very
much the 1st lyric alteration..her beauty ’in’ the moonlight
overtook ya…& think the 2nd change is telling- it is vulnerable
& the twist reveals a bit … the veil brushed aside with a whisper… giving a
glimpse of the true nature of Leonard’s honest portrayal of the endless sad struggle
~must be the ache of the longing our souls sense when we cling to lies & thus, cut ourselves off from
the captivating & consuming loving energy stream of the Holy Dove…GRACE…the
    true cause for HALLELUJAH…

Hi Stephan. Travelling to the US as a musician means lots of paperwork and I haven’t yet had the chance to get all my ducks in a row. Haha. But I hear Vegas is AMAZING! Hopefully some day... :)

Met Leonard Cohen out of gallery opening in Saskatoon in 1994. He was reprehensible, to say the least. He treated all the women very badly and acted like he was the only intelligent person in the room. Very rude. I'm told by others that this was standard for him. But he was an amazing songwriter and poet.

I love this but the lyrics are “holy dove” not holy dark. It’s biblical like the song.

I’m so glad you like my version of this incomparable song! And yes, like the other commenter said, I had been listening to the Rufus Wainwright cover a lot just before recording mine. :) One of the best parts of singing this song at shows all over the place was hearing how it meant different things to different people. Very powerful song!
