  • In which Jon Anderson and Steve Heimler of Good Buddy Fly Fishing head to some new water on their home river. Both try a new fly but have luck with the flies they find more confidence in. New water typically produces challenges but this particular section presents some unfamiliar difficulty.
    The tailwater of the Chattahoochee River is a good place to find water that holds trout but some sections aren't as easy to wade as others.

    Is this "fish weir shoals" by chance? I'm a noob and am looking for a local place to learn the craft. Great hat btw...Jeff Wright is a former student of mine.

    I tried this spot….getting to the spot was an expedition….AND I fell into the exact same hole that you did. Not the best experience for a noob like myself.

    I fished this strip of the Hooch in like 1985. Entry was at Hwy. 20, then downstream. This was well before the warning sirens were added to the stream bed to warn of impending rising water from Buford Dam. The water began to rise, and I was trapped between the stream bed and two very mad and aggressive Great Danes in a pasture at the top of the bank. Thank goodness for a root to cling to till the water receded several hours later. Well prior to cell phones to call for help.

      Glad you enjoyed it. Fly fishing is much more enjoyable when you can relax and just have fun. It is easy to get frustrated when the fishing is slow but it always makes me feel better to know that I’m better than Steve. Maybe we’ll see you out there sometime.

    Enjoy that you don't edit the bloopers or realistically when the fish gets off. Went fishing at a high mtn lake today in Colorado and only had 1 bite that I could detect. My buddy only landed two, so it was a slow day. Switched out 5 different patterns/options. Some days you kill it, and some day you're reminded it's fishing and not catching :)

    • @GoodBuddyFlyFishing

      Yeah it seems like anytime we turn the camera on, our productiveness on the water is cut in half. Which probably makes sense since we’re fussing with video/audio and not fishing as much. Even so, we’re still just mediocre fisherman. No use hiding it...

    Settles Bridge is good, some nice deep spots. There is a boat launch there so there is a good bit of traffic in an out of the water right there at the bridge on a sunny weekend day with no generating.

      Thanks for the sub. We don’t keep the fish but there are a ton of people who do. The Hooch is our home water so we love to fish there.

      Thanks for the sub. We don’t keep the fish but there are a ton of people who do. I guess the closer to the dam you get the cleaner it is maybe. The Hooch is our home water so we love to fish there.

      Good Buddy Fly Fishing I hike and kayak there all the time within The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area but haven’t fished yet. Don’t think I could eat the fish. Have to be catch and release. There are a number of Chattahoochee River hikes on my channel if you are interested. Cheers!

    Dry flies are heating up out here in the Tetons! It’ll be full on hopper-dropper season before too long!
    Miss our southern streams though! Looks like y’all had fun!

      @GoodBuddyFlyFishing  5 лет назад

      Man, that sounds fun. Neither of us have fished out west before, although we just got back from a camping trip with our daughters and had some luck with dries. One bite on top is enough to convert a man forever...

    Where is the usual parking to get into this section of river?

    • @GoodBuddyFlyFishing
      @GoodBuddyFlyFishing  3 года назад

      You can park on 20 near the bridge and hike down. It’s hard to wade to the side we fished though.

      @@GoodBuddyFlyFishing thanks I'm new to fishing the area and just found your videos yesterday while looking to learn about the area. I watched all of your videos over the past day and I'm sad to hear yall are no longer going to be making videos. Are there any spots you would suggest trying? I have mainly been fishing Jones bridge park but I have found it to be crowded and overfished.
