From Liz: This is one of my all-time favorite songs to sing! I first sang it as a singing waitress when I moved to NYC, and will NEVER stop singing it. Meadowlark is not an especially easy song to sing sitting down, but this was a special request for my AutoTunes series. 😄

Tony nominee and Emmy winner Liz Callaway made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. She has gone on to star in Baby, Miss Saigon, The Look of Love, The Three Musketeers, and for 5 years appeared as Grizabella in Cats. Off-Broadway appearances include The Spitfire Grill (Drama Desk nomination), No Way to Treat a Lady, Marry Me a Little and Brownstone. She recently starred in the one-person play “Every Brilliant Thing” at TheatreSquared. Liz sang the Academy Award-nominated song “Journey to the Past” in the animated feature Anastasia, Other film work includes Jasmine in the two Aladdin sequels, The Swan Princess, and The Rewrite with Hugh Grant. She received an Emmy Award for hosting Ready to Go, a daily, live children’s program on CBS in Boston. Other TV credits include In Performance at the White House, Inside the Actor’s Studio: Stephen Sondheim, The David Letterman Show and Senior Trip (CBS Movie of the Week.)Her extensive concert and symphony career has included appearances in London, Paris, Iceland, Vietnam, Australia, China and nearly every major city in the U.S. She performs regularly with her sister Ann Hampton Callaway, as well as composer Stephen Schwartz, and has had the great pleasure of singing with Jimmy Webb, Paul Williams and the legendary Johnny Mathis. Liz has six solo recordings: Passage of Time, The Beat Goes On, The Story Goes On: Liz Callaway On and Off- Broadway, Anywhere I Wander: Liz Callaway Sings Frank Loesser, Merry and Bright, and her newest album, The Essential Liz Callaway.

I remember how excited I was when you released “The Story goes On” and recorded Meadowlark; up until that point I had only heard Sarah Brightman’s version. Keep the video’s coming since your show in Chicago has been postponed twice.
In your CAR?! It’s like you are on stage with perfect light and sound. And the “moment after” was worth the entire selection. Marvelous.

Okay, now that's just RUDE! lol. The focus. Amazing. And also, it's super atmospheric and I love it. I totally believe that you're fleeing in your car to go start your new life! I performed this recently for the first time and I had to listen to your version 500 million times in order to burn the EXACT correct pitch on those held out notes into my brain because every other singer swoops up to them or attacks head-on but is flat and has to flounder around for a couple beats until they find it and it drives me crazy! So, thank you! I think I mostly achieved it. Haha.

My Dear Ms. Liz, Your Carnegie Hall performance seven-plus years ago of this wonderful gem with the amazing orchestration was the very first rendition of this song I had ever heard. I was so floored and moved by your poignant performance right there and then that I have listened to it countless times. And here you are, years later, sounding just as amazingly gorgeous as you did then, even without the symphony backing you up. And in your car, no less. Since first hearing your live performance, i have listened (mostly tonight) to a multitude of other singers, both pro and amateur, young and old, most of them very talented, sing this piece and NONE, and I mean NONE have touched me to my very core the way you have, no matter how well they sang.
Back in the 90s when I was signing with the NYCGMC you and your sister, Ann, were our guests at one of our Christmas concerts, and I'll never forget it, especially when the two of you performed the number "Sisters" from the film "White Christmas." It was the highlight of my holiday season that year. Your voice is heaven sent, and is a blessing to humanity. May God bless you, and may you continue to bless us with your wonderful gift. Thank you so much for touching my heart and soul every time I listen to you sing.

I’d like to imagine this as a modern take on The Baker’s Wife when she’s fleeing from her sad marriage to go with the young man.
Stop. Don't perform and drive. There is nothing more that I would like to see than you sing this song, but not with the driving. I worry. The Meadowlark might distract you from a stop sign or a yield.
