Incredibly, in 2022 North Korean still operates a large force of antique jet bombers taking back to the late 1940s, the venerable Soviet Ilyushin Il-28.

Respect ✊ to the OG engineers, whose creations are still operational long after their expected service life. According to the USAF, B-52s are not expected to retire until 2050!
There is a slight difference. Absolutely no B-52s from 1957 are still in use. The model went into at least 24 separate redesigns, and no single B-52 in use today was built before 1985. These POS Migs from North Korea are the same exact ones from the 1950s. Have you heard about the advanced new North Korean radar? Put a hungry peasant in the back seat and let him smell for fresh human meat. American warplanes use advanced countermeasures like ECM jamming, flares, chaff, and radar-absorbing skin. The most advanced North Korean countermeasure is releasing motor oil out the back of the plane and pretending they're damaged. American military rations (MRE's) include a water-activated heat source, entree, coffee, candy, energy drink, and lots of other goodies. The latest North Korean MRE is a small dog that can fit in the standard issue military backpack.

Yes, all it takes is some critical thinking to unravel that it's a scam - otherwise every land owner in Scotland would be a lord or lady. The Klimov VK-1 was in improved version of the direct Nene copy Klimov RD-45 but still basically the same engine.

Wow. I initially figured those MiG-15s were old footage. Here, those are prized classics. A Polish dual control version of that is operated by a historic jet collection at Waterloo, Ontario. Was going to make the parallel with the almost-as-old B-52, but then Mark did. The Bear is an interesting study, since its design is in part a development of the Tupolev Tu4, the Soviet B-29 clone. Boeing, too, had a sweptwing turboprop development of the B-29 on the drawing board, the unbuilt XB-55, which bore a striking resemblance to the eventual Bear, but was supplanted by the more advanced pure jet B-52.

This was the plane of my childhood. My father used to fly it back in his prime days. They had reconnaissance versions with video camera capabilities, target tug version, the bomber version, they would also act as a target for MiGs and they even chased cruise missiles fired by the navy to see if they reach their targets at sea or not. They would joke that this aircraft is great at doing many things, except going to actual war. The plane would shake entirely when it fired its 23mm guns in the back and you also had to manually divert the fuel from one reservoir to another with some controls onboard during long flights. Nevertheless, it was a very reliable aircraft, the engines are basically the same with the ones fitted in the MiG-15s, it was loved by both technicians and aviators, but not the easiest aircraft to fly.
My Dad flew on B-52's . Made in the 1950's and still flying (with some upgrades and retrofits). This was an interesting video. Good one.
It won't be long before folk can say "my great grandfather flew on the same B52s as I do"!
FLAL: Actually all the planes remaining were built in 1963.
Wow that's so crazy that they are able to keep all the different kinds of equipment that is so different and diverse working and flying in the air today.
Its easy to keep them flying when in the last 50 years they've collectively put on an hour of flight time.
they have unlimited workers and don't have to worry about cost of a work hour
When they say they have 80 of something, it could mean they have 20 in working order, 20 in various states of disrepair and 40 carcasses scrapped for parts. Those 20 are enough to make propaganda films and keep up appearances
We have B-52's that are 70 years old, and most of the fleet likely won't be removed from service until after the 100th anniversary of the first ones rolling out of the hanger in which they were built.
Most of the relics that the Norks have are probably not in working order, but the numbers sound impressive!
@@marktwain2053 Surely you are not equating the US fleet of B52's to the junk in North Korea. For one they have received billions of dollars in upgrades and the repair and service maintenance on them is top notch and the last I heard they get close to 100 hours of logged flight time per year.

I was stationed in South Korea in the mid-70's. I took a USO trip to the DMZ and I actually got to stand in North Korea and have my picture taken doing so. Many people don't realize that the Korean War never officially ended. The two sides agreed on an Armistice, which in my understanding does not end a war, per se. When I was there, I was told we were still at "war" with the North.
Happily (or not,) nobody follows those rules these days. By those rules, all of NATO would have co-belligerent status against Russia for the various military supports offered the Ukrainians.
As an obvious example: a neutral nation impounds a belligerent's war machines when they show up in its territory, and the belligerent can have it back after the war. They certainly don't repair and/or upgrade the things and then send it back during the fighting.
That's true. The war never ended and is still ongoing and will always be a potential flair up spot until north Korea decides to come into a more modern society.. hell the 80's for them would be a improvement
I went there in 2018. it's still the same. A long table in the blue building runs east/west. there's a wire for speakers(?) down the middle of the table that is the line between north and southwhen you stand on the north side of the table, you are "in" NK.

Code name Beagle , it's a great favourite of mine alongside the Mig21 which still has great looks , that Korean presenter would go down great at Cheltnam on a Race day..
I know that this video is about the bomber and not North Korea's military in general, but I have to say that that missile launcher disguised as an ordinary cargo train wagon is very impressive
and also a war crime

The French used to use trucks disguised as Dannon Yogurt trucks for their short range nuclear missiles.
Amazing piece of history. I never knew NK had such relics flying. Impressive looking for their age. Mark you've done it again. Bravo!
Imagine these things trying to fight in the era of hypersonic missiles and B2 with B21

She's a smart looking bird, it's be a cool RC model build
