I work security at the gates going into the locations. I've seen high wait times like you're saying. Seen some wait up to 13 hours to drop their load. I've worked in other locations and seen some run 8 to 10 loads a day. In and out all day, running those trucks almost 24 hours before they take a break. Like you said, depends on how far they have to drive to pick up their load and if anything on location breaks or goes down.

Great information on frac sand hauling.
Is there chatter in oilfield about oil prices/recession/oilfield slowdown? (Maybe this could be a video idea). What happens if oil prices keep sliding down ($67 as I write this)? What are the first signs or layoffs in oilfield? Do water haulers have to worry? Will your producing wells that you service slow down or be shut down? Have you been through an oilfield slump?
Btw, I start my "first day" this afternoon at a big agricultural coop and using my new CDL.

I hauled sand in Louisiana with my own hopper and then hauling the boxes in Louisiana and South/East Texas. My truck is pre ELD so I ran 24/7. Basically every 8 hrs i would nap 4-5 and then back on it. You pick somewhere for your "home" place and run time sheets. The ELD guys would cry but I was there to make money, not friends. It went really good until brokers brought in more trucks. 20 trucks can get along together but 45 meant dipshits throwing trash, parking where their not supposed etc. You have to remember, there is money to be made so companies with alot of trucks will throw anybody in a truck. One truck in Louisiana got busted for ALOT of drugs. Three in texas got busted for smuggling people. The lease roads in Texas will break your truck at 10 mph. Oil pans, leaf springs, tires/rims, bumpers, are usually the victims. East Texas is REALLY expensive for owner operators. Front wheel bearing went out. The cheapest was quoted at $17,000 and you usually do both at the same time so it jumped to $25,000.00. I hauled it back home to Minnesota and paid my mechanic $14,000.00. So be carefull. Good money brings the scams, thieves, and anything else to mess, rob, steal, and screw you out of that money. there's fights, saw one guy beat another with his hard hat (that's why my hard hat has a blood splatter design). Now I haul water for wind tower projects. More money, hourly wage with 2 two trucks.

I’ve hauled sand before, your not going to have 50-70 hours of unpaid detention, and not every week. Also you can definitely sleep during that detention time. Yes it's a pretty simple job, as a company driver I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, if companies aren't paying hourly as most trucking positions are in the Oilfield, such as sand, that simply means they don't want to pay for your standby as an employee. And trust me it's alot of waiting. But for an O/O it's a decent gig that usually pays well.
