    No matter how any one tries to candy coat it, cannibalism is cannibalism. Yes there was human sacrifice and cannibalism in the lands on this side of the planet.

    I spent more than five years living and working in Amazonas Venezuela and I can say that while probably not practiced today cannibalism was practiced by some cultural ethnic groups well into the 1900s. I've discussed this with older Jivi-Jivi who actually participated and gave me detailed accounts of the processing and cooking of human flesh when they were a young children. Many Gua-Jibo/jivi-Jivi have stories of their grand parents cannibalism and that witches still practice to this day but that I could not confirm. Its important to note that the practice of cannibalism was only among some cultural ethnic/ linguistic groups such the Caribes peoples such as the once fierce Gua-Jibo and related Jivi-Jivi peoples of the Llanos of Venezuela and Colombia whom I have extensive contact with to this day. They openly talk about it in a frank and matter of fact way. As their traditional enemies such as the Piaroa relate predations against their tribe by Caribe who were guiding the Spanish in their conquest to look for gold and for Indigenous slaves. To this day in remote localities such as the upper Rio Cataniapo older Piaroa believe that 'whites' are cannibals because the Caribe guides were cannibals and the Spanish would sometimes consume human flesh. It is true that many of the enslaved Indigenous peoples came from cultures where cannibalism was considered repugnant but were accused of being cannibals as the royal crown and Catholic church permitted these peoples to be taken and used as slaves. The Yanomami talk about a group that anthropologist looked for for years called the Waika in the uppermost headwaters of the Rio Orinoco who were said to be cannibals by the Yanomami who consider the eating of human flesh repugnant only to eventually realize that Waika is actually an insult used to describe other Yanomami groups who were disparaged and as cannibalism is so culturally reviled their enemies were accused of the practice lol

    it would help if you could read Portuguese sources: all tribes in what is now Brazil were cannibals; there were no cities or agriculture in what is now Brazil, the people lived in the Stone Age. All men were warriors, all tribes were permanently at war, cannibalism was part of their culture, economy and religion. And stop talking about colonization, for centuries no Portuguese or European women went to Brazil, all Portuguese men took Indian women, all children born were half blood and all spoke their mother's tongue, Tupi or Guarani, not Portuguese!

    • @GeographyGeek
      @GeographyGeek  2 месяца назад +42

      This video is on maps made by Europeans and why cannibalism was depicted on them. It’s a little difficult not to talk about colonization when this video is literally made through the lens of the colonizers.

    • @alexzicker
      @alexzicker 2 месяца назад +7

      colonialism seems to be the only word that is known and it's used no matter what to fit any and all circumstances. try instead looking up real people, real lives, real families living in Brazil in the 16th and 17th centuries, they were all mixed race and half native (the Bandeirantes!) and there was a constant flow of mixed race people from Brazil to Portugal @@GeographyGeek

      Not all, but most. It was mostly Portuguese and Spamnish men migrating to the new world. Cortez himself had a Mexicah girlfriend, and in most states the parent nation's language became the language of trade, learning, and law which is why they're largely spoken there today.

    Cannibalism was common in the middle east, around CANAAN, All over the place, thus the ancient issue:: "God said to Abraham kill me your son Abe said man you must be putting me on God said no Abe said What? God said you can do what you want Abe but the next time you see me coming you better run Abe said where do you want this killing done? God said out on this nice alter..... So be assured if it was happening among those peoples it was happening in the "America's". When Spain came thru in c.1540-1830, they had an effect on the native practices and beliefs. So when Freemason Explorers from the East Coast ventured west and encountered the natives in c.1800-1840, Spain already had 300 Years with them!! No one seems to notice. This might explain descriptions of Indians with most of the ten commandments, a decrease in cannibalism, circumcision and such.

    I don't know why people get so bent out of shape over this subject matter. If you are starving and there's nothing to eat chances are you will eat a human being. I would. I'm sure somewhere, sometime back in my ancestry, some of my people resorted to cannibalism. I don't care. I say EAT UP! You have my permission!
