It never ceases to amaze me how Floor can bend forward, rotate her head like a madwoman, and then stand up and launch into a power song as if nothing had preceded it.
Thank you for doing Nightwish! Floor has referred to herself as a "vocal nerd," so I think she just likes collecting colors for her voice. Everyone needs a hobby. ;-)
This is their second song from that concert.. Their first song there was "Shudder before the beautiful" that you should check.. Because that's how they open a concert :D
Your eyes are so expressive. When you're listening and watching, you look like a kid on Christmas morning, all filled with wonder and excitement. Keep the videos coming, Nightwish is a journey!
Great reaction, fun to see your expression, when you realize Floor is growling and Marco is doing the top harmonies. I believe its the second song on the setlist.
Floor is doing 100% of the growling^^ "High Hopes" (Pink Floyd-Cover, live @ Hartnell Arena) and "The Islander" live @ Tampere are great Marko-songs btw :) Further fantastic Nightwish-songs in general are "Storytime" live @ Wacken and "Weak Fantasy" live @ Tampere. EDIT: "7 Days to the Wolves" live @ Wembley is another must-see!
I would actually go with the SVT live at Bravalla for Weak Fantasy over Tampere, the mix highlights some awesome parts of the song that you miss in some interesting ways.
Next on nightwish should be... Song of Myself...the live at Wacken..You are having what's called a "Floor*gasm* lol then poet and pendulum..but that is a must research the story behind that song...also choose the live version with lyrics
"Holy Shostakovitch Batman!" Floor growls and seduces like a siren in the same song! :D Marko shines in Nightwish's cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" and Nightwish's own folky "The Islander".
This band has 3 very strong, talented, and well trained singers. Floor, Marco (bass player)h is known as the voice of Finland. I remember seeing him perform on VH1 back in the 80s. And Troy from the UK. As you move on you will be amazed at their flexibility and meshing of sounds. Enjoy the ride.
This is song #2 of the set list of this concert. They come blasting straight on with Shudder Before The Beautiful, and then Floor’s first dialogue with the crowd comes prior to Yours Is An Empty Hope.
Floor's growling and the guitar work makes this one of the heaviest Nightwish songs, probably the heaviest that they actually play live. I would recommend the poet and the Pendulum live from the same show, there is a version with lyrics. It is one of their 3 "epics" along with Ghost Love Score and The Greatest Show on Earth. Tells a very deep story that I am SURE many will be able to explain much more clearly than myself.
Loving your journey into Nightwish Ken. Mine started 2 years ago and I need a NW 'fix' now every day...yes, addicted like the rest of us on here. I wasn't particularly following Metal/Rock anymore, but Floor did it for me with a chance watch of Phantom on Beste Zangers. Like many who witnessed that, it was an easy step to discover NW. Amazing band with the Queen of Metal and a killer genre. I predict you will also be an expert in a few weeks!
Coach great reaction, thank you. Yep....Grr the growl is her ! Range and power for Floor....Do yourself a favor and RUclips search " Floor Beste Zangers ". It's a Dutch TV show from last year. Before she was on the show only a small amount of people in Holland knew who she was. Pop is king there and metal follows folk and rock as well. Things have changed....She sings opera, rock, pop, folk and metal songs. In German, Dutch, English and memorized a salsa song in Spanish putting a metal hue on it. You gonna love.
Second song of the show, very highly suggesting the opening song too...Shudder Before Beautiful, and every song till the last one The Greatest Show On Earth from this show.... :)
Regards from Latvia! Thank you for yours excellent reactions! About Nightwish Wembley Live, you have a mountain to climb. Check out The Islander, then While Your Lips Are Still Red…. For desert keep The Poet and Pendulum! I will wait for it…
'Holy Shostakovich!' - How fitting, I'm sure Shostakovich would have liked this song. About the music of Nightwish: This song is, as 95% of their songs, the work of Tuomas Holopainen, founder, band leader and keyboarder of the band. He is responsible for composition, arrangements, lyrics, etc. After every album there is world tour and then Tuomas takes a break before inspiration comes to him. The few songs that were not from him are usually from Marco Hietala, the long haired bass player with the double beard and second vocalist (he often does back vocals, but they also have duets and a few songs that Marco sings alone), like for example 'The Islander' where he is also lead vocalist. He also had his own band before Nightwish was even founded and now a side career as a solo artist with 2 of his friends (side projects are a normal thing, all the other band member have them except for the little guitarist who is happiest chilling with his family and some beer). About this song: This is Tuomas' little love letter to the most extreme members of the creationist family, the extremistic religious kind. He kicks out such songs occationally, and they are kinda in a similar tone as what Richard Dawkins wrote about them. Not surprising, Tuomas dedicated a whole album to his work. He wanted to become a biologist, if the music didn't work out (as well as Floor wanted to become a biologist as a child). The whole band is pretty much leaning towards science, fantasy, environment, etc when it comes to interests and hobbies. Like many metal musicians and fans. And especially christians (the extremistic ones, that is) see all of that as satanic and evil, and tear them apart in their little 'bubble' world. There are other songs that are also adressed towards creationists, which are all harder and harscher/faster than most of their songs: 'Weak Fantasy' from thei previous album 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' (the one dedicated to Richard Dawkins' work) and from their recent album 'Human :II: Nature' the song 'Tribal' . Those 3 together paint a pretty clear picture what Tuomas thinks about overly religious people who don't leave people alone with their religion.
Floor has three real strengths that make her so formidable: she is a great all-around metal singer who switches between vocal registers, in and out of distortion and false cord growling in a snap; she can do operetta/musical quality operatic style, switching to conventional metal and back with the same snap, and finally she is a great Broadway quality performer. Yours is Empty Hope is a great illustration for the first. Shoemaker or solo Vilja LIed (at Beste Zangers) showcase her operatic side. Wild Card with her prior band ReVamp shows how those can all come together. And for pure performance, nothing beats Poet and the Pendulum from this Wembley concert. To be fair, there aren't many rhapsodies like that one out there to begin with.
I love these reactions. If you’re willing to do another Nightwish reaction, I have 2 I’d like you to choose from. Romanticide live at Wacken is similar to this song, but heavier. Or Greatest show on Earth, which is more score focus like Ghost Love Score. Live at Tampere for this version, it honestly holds up to the name.
“Shudder before the beautiful “ is the opening song and do react to that. Amazing opening. This is the second song. For a whole different vibe try Alpenglow from this show. Again, excellent reaction
nightwish songs are like breaking the rules. every song have something twist and great melody, that´s why long songs not feeling boring. it´s like mini movie. thanx to react this one and have great day there ken.
As everyone has pointed out, Floor is extremely versatile and there are still many surprises in store. Thank you for the video reaction and comments, as always appreciated and enjoyed seeing your face when you realized it was Floor that was growling. lol The journey has only begun. Enjoy. 😊❤🤘🤘
Beautiful and Terrifying is basically the summary of who and what Floor is. In every way. She is a force of nature when on stage, and with Nightwish they transcend the incredible and become something unique, those who have listened and truly heard it are blessed.
They start the show with Shudder before the beautiful. You should check out that I promise you will enjoy. Shudder before the beautiful (official live). Thank you btw from this great reaction
I always love the moment when people realise it's Floor doing the growls. So many dont realise it till the end, or not at all. You have a good eye and ears to spot it so quickly when you're not familiar with Macros voice (the guitarist). Great reaction!
Aw, mates in the Army SO MUCH enjoy those moments "wait, wait is SHE doing that? no way!" why do you think they recommending this song so much... it really enjoyable to watch those reactions :)
While a member of the band After Forever, Floor worked on a daily basis with two pretty good growlers (Sander Gommans and Mark Jansen at an early stage). It is just my hypothesis that she learned the basis of growling at that time. For sure, she had the opportunity.
I always enjoy your reactions. As a vocal coach, if you really want a chance to see Floors vocal abilities shine up close and personal, I recommend that you check out her performances on the show, "Beste Zangers" the format of the show is a reality TV show where a group of vocalists are gathered and each week one of them is "spotlighted" by the other singers performing either a cover of one of thier songs or a song that means alot to them. In the show's run Floor start with classical opera singing Villia Lied, in German... an in succeeding week's performs phantom of the opera, shallow, from a star is born, both as a solo and as a duet, a Spanish song in Spanish, and others. The show is a much more intimate setting, so it's easier to see her technique and stage presence, as well as vocal and linguistic range. The other singers in the group were all quite unfamiliar with Floor, as is discussed in the show's dialuge.
Marko Hietala, the base player can growl, scream but also sing very beautiful. Listen to the Islander, live at Tampere. Floor can do that all too as you’ve noticed.
"Shudder before the beautiful" and "Dark chest of wonders" are really great opening tracks. "Last ride of the day" and "Greatest show on earth" are great endings (however you should probably listen to them abit more before reacting to Greatest show on earth).
You had the courage to jump to this one, to see / hear yourself. Yes, she made the growls, and Marco Hietala did the clean vocals in the chorus. And you understood the process (many others didn't) For that, you have my subscription. I suggest you to try "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 ruclips.net/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/видео.html you'll find some "vocal pearls" there too :) by Floor and Marco.
that is the second song of the show, first one is shudder before the beautiful, u should check that out too, it's awesome too !! BUT for the contrast u should listen to Floor Jansen - Que se Siente from Beste Zangers show, you will see her another vocal side!!
If you want to hear Floors voice in the raw, Hows the Heart (planet rock acoustic) is a great example. Otherwise all the live performances are second to none. Poet and the pendulum (Wembley), Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere), or Weak Fantasy (Bravalla) are some of my favorites. Make sure you check the background to Poet and the Pendulum and Greatest Show on Earth before you watch. It’ll make the experience a little more heart felt since you’ll already know the meaning and emotion of each song. :)
They started the show with the song Shudder before the Beautiful, which was a bombastic opening for a great night at Wembley. Perhaps You could react that one as well, I think you wouldn't be disappointed 🤘
Someday I will get someone to react to my favourite Finnish singer, JP Leppäluoto. 😅 I don't think I've seen more than 10 reactions to his work, but he deserves a lot more; his voice is so unique.
Troy (the guy with a microphone on background) is not on the stage during this song, as you can definitely see :) In chorus Marco, bass player, sings clean while Floor does growls. For more growling Floor you can check the song Free Card by ReVamp (it's one of Floor's previous bands). Or, if you'd like to reveal some other her talents which are definitely well-known but used very rarely - search "floor jansen puccini" here on youtube :)
Nice one Ken. For the diametric opposite of this (and a great example of Marco's singing) try While Your Lips Are Still Red from the same Wembley concert. Also, a tip: when you pause the video to talk, go back a few seconds before you restart it. It makes it less jarring for the viewers to listen to for some reason.
I'll admit I used to not like Nightwish, I heard a couple of songs but it wasn't my cup of tea. I don't even remember how I got into these reaction videos, but I was blown away first hearing Floor and seeing her raw power. She sings with such passion, I love her. I'm a fan! The rest of the band is amaizing ofc, and the work Tuomas puts into every song is just mindblowing, he is a mastermind!
Next song review should be I Want My Tears Back or Romanticide. Two of my favorites and I promise you that you'll end up singing the chorus of both before the end of the songs.
You should definitely check out Nightwish's version of The Phantom of the Opera (official live video). I think you'd enjoy seeing their version of a song surely familiar to you. This is with their original vocalist Tarja, but also showcases Marko the bassist, who is just as accomplished a vocalist.
That a way to go hammer just jump right into that mosh pit without a mouth guard lol! Great reaction, make sure you bring a helmet if your gonna dive into Romanticide or Song of Myself next! Keep having fun on this deep dive :)
So amazing everytime =D Nobody expects Floor to do the Growling^^ And for your (very long) List (by now, I guess): "Nightwish - I Want My Tears Back (Floor Jansen) [Decades - Live In Buenos Aires 2019]"
Nice! This was the second song of the set list. You havent seen nothing yet :) NW songs are so different from eatch other, so your two song sample size is not enough to fully grasph the awesomeness. Anything from Wacken 2013, Tampere 2015 or this Wembley 2015 or Buenos Aires 2018 concert will rock your socks off ! You should always chose live versions and post 2013 era (Floor). Will be looking more of you reactions to NW. Enjoy !
They didn't change, Floor is doing all the growling on this one.
I want them to re-mix it again and turn Floor's mic up for the sake of her growls
ppsssttttt she does growl :) and she does in this song also : ruclips.net/video/FYZqPsGajqY/видео.html

@@local9 Yessssss.
It is but it makes me mad when they think its Marco doing it, or that it's part of the studio backround or they dont even notice 😭
I always look for that moment of clarity from people reacting to this song and just how long it takes...
Ughh. Her growls suck compared to Tatiana shmaylyuk.
My favorite moment of these is the confusion face of people when they notice someone growling but the male is singing the lead...
I do so concur!!!
It never ceases to amaze me how Floor can bend forward, rotate her head like a madwoman, and then stand up and launch into a power song as if nothing had preceded it.
I would be so dizzy. Would probably fall down.
yeah...but loot at her figure, her size,...she looks like a valkyrie in a war! I certainly break my neck doing this!:D
It's called "windmilling" (she is Dutch, after all...)
Bravo ai capito
Couldn't agree more. No one is ready for the ROAR from Floor. Hahah
The opening number of ths concert was "A Shudder Before the Beautifull". This was the second number.
*Shudder
First 2 songs and you've got your money's worth!
Wich is another very good recomendation to react to
No switch... she does all the growling in this song
Most Singers sing what they can, Floor Jansen sings what she wants.
Floor also sings what she can. It's just that this is everything. I'm just waiting for her to add throat singing to the mix.
If you want to hear more of Marko (bassist/vocals), I would recommend "The Islander" live from Tampere.
I would recommend their cover of "High Hopes" by Pink Floyd for more Marko.
I would also suggest While Your Lips Are Still Red for more Marko.
I agree. He really can sing well
Yes, the Islander is really good.
@@MsCatstaff Love that one. 'So Marko, how good of a singer are you?'.. 'Oh, occasionally I have Floor Jansen as my backing vocals, 'nuff said''.

That you know... yet. 😁😉 I know you watch alot of artists, but Floor is pretty much the pinnacle of singing talent. Welcome to the NWA.
Haven't even began watching the video but the fact that you started by saying "holy Shostakovich"... YES!!!!!!!!!
Holy Shostakovich!
Best interjection ever 👍
I'll admit I used to not like Nightwish, I heard a couple of songs but it wasn't my cup of tea. I don't even remember how I got into these reaction videos, but I was blown away first hearing Floor
and seeing her raw power.
4:34 - can we just stop and appreciate the beauty of, his comment...
That a way to go hammer just jump right into that mosh pit without a mouth guard lol! Great reaction, make sure you bring a helmet if your gonna dive into Romanticide or Song of Myself next! Keep having fun on this deep dive :)
So amazing everytime =D Nobody expects Floor to do the Growling^^
And for your (very long) List (by now, I guess):
"Nightwish - I Want My Tears Back (Floor Jansen) [Decades - Live In Buenos Aires 2019]"
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Nightwish!
Thx for this and now it be: Ever Dream from Wacken 2013...
This! Is! Nightwish!
Enjoy !
Frank approves and he's enjoying it. He did it his way. Floor does it whatever way it takes.
