Thorough review, thank you! I've been using the T818 for a month now (mostly Multiclass races in AC at RD servers) and I am positively impressed (coming from a TS-PC) with what this DD wheelbase can do from the get go. I do think however that it's unfortunate Thrustmaster does not include either a desk or rig mount WITH the T818 out of the box (but hey, peripheral$). I can definitely recommend the rig-mounting kit, it provides a broader contact area and more screws (8 instead of 4) to share the FFB load (better than just drilling holes to attach the wheelbase straight on the rig) and has no flex whatsoever. The bottom of the rig-mounting kit is made of VERY sticky silicon so it feels as if my T818 is now "glued" to the rig itself. I had to re-tighten all other screws on the rig plate to ensure rigidity because wheelspin shakes the whole thing (currently running it in Performance mode at 70% power and 30% damper). In my experience the T818 is a proper, solid DD wheel. Definitely worth the upgrade if you are already in the TM ecosystem.
Most detailed I’ve seen so far. I’m definitely part of the target audience for this product as I have the T300RS base with T-LCM pedals and the TH8-A shifter and Sparco R383 wheel. I have it since a few days, quite happy with it since it's my first DD. At 16:09, I push this piece even further because otherwise it was making a little noise. Now I just have to upgrade my cockpit (the DD is a bit too strong for the Oplite GT3 Superfast) but it's nice to feel everything on a track. Thank you for the review, a bit too much plastic for the price, we can all agree about that

I have been debated about getting a Thrustmaster T818. I mostly race on iRacing in GT cars and some prototypes. Most of my time I am racing against top split competition and I have previously raced in the iRacing World Championship Grand Prix Series years back. I went from a G27 to T500RS F1 Integral and it was a nice step up for me at the time in 2013. As years passed on, my T500RS F1 Integral that served me well was wearing down and not as strong as it used to be before. I took a trip down to Ricmotech to try out the TS PC Racer. The feedback it gave me was astonishing, I felt connected with what I was doing. I came back to iRacing last year in 2022 after my TS PC Racers power core died. Ive been crippling its potential with the T500RS power core. Im looking for the next upgrade that will serve me well in top split competition.
My T818 is a game changer. It is superb, and much better value than the Logitech G Pro (which is HUGE), and you still have to buy the pedals. Yes I do already have the Sparco R383 rally wheel & the F1000 formula wheel as well as my trusty T300RS for emergencies. I came from a Logitech G27, tried the G29, which just refused to work on my gaming laptop, so moved to Thrustmaster. All good so far.
@@MagicAyrtonforever well bro, you will never play then. GT7 will never come to PC. And still after 25 years people are hoping… Same as Forza will never come to PS
i cancelled my preorder exactly for that reason, too much plastic for the price AND i was a thrustmaster owner. i just sold everything. Even if it's "made in France" (my country) i really do not appreciate paying that much when i see so much better quality everywhere else, for cheaper. And what about software part ??? it looks like win95 software, developped by a young student with no talent. have you ever seen TLCM pedals software ? its a real joke ! Every here and there we can see lack of quality in thrustmaster, selling toys for a very high price... Each thrustmaster thing i owned had problems : -t500 became hot, i had to unmount external shell and add a new fan system all spring of my t3pa pro broke, and after trying SAV, which was good, i finally decided to add my own springs, and i finally had a decent frankenstein-like t3pa-pro -t300 had the same problem, i sold it. Steering wheels are too soft, and move as you mentionned in your video, plus we can ear the plastic creaking each turn -joysticks t16000 (i owned 2 of them) are well knowed for the Z axis potentiometer fail, and it happened on my both. 'airbus' joystick still have this problem. Tlcm pedals can not be setup on clutch and gaz pedals, which are really weak and soft. (i can barely not feel the gaz pedal at all !!! ) Brake pedal need mods to be efficient, because only springs on a load cell cancel the load cell effect !!! i mean there is absolutely no feeling in brake pedal because of the spring, and finally, conical brake mod on my t3pa pro was better !!! and that's all for MY expérience with thrustmaster, but its really enough for me, I have no more thrust in thrustmaster...
Gret review! I like the indepth price comparisons, no one else is doing that well enough at the moment. I'm too poor for these so called mid range DD wheels anyway, but at least I know the real value of them in case I hit lotto, lol.
Very informative and detailed review, thanks! I did buy one and I like it very much. I notice it is underrated by some but using high quality plastics and a clever QR for old and new rims is something I appreciate. I agree that the total price of the unit, adapters and maybe support clamp is a bit high. Also, you can only order one adapter at once afterwards atm, paying shipping costs for every adapter...it adds up. TM will have a challenge to present new rims that have higher quality ánd are still affordable, we have to see :)

Another indepth review, appreciate it, may i ask, one day you gives us some tips / tricks for ffb within the pithouse software. Im currently using Race beyond matter's settings and Im Just curious of your settings for comparison
Thank you for the detailed review. Even tho I currently own T300 , if I ever have the opportunity to upgrade to a DD wheel I will go Moza r5/r9 with one of their round wheels. Versatile and budget friendly specially for VR.
I commented here of my problems with the t818. i also said i was gonna update. so, my comment said that after a month my t818 did not recognize any steering wheels anymore. so also no buttons reacted to imput.. i tried different wheels and qr's nothing worked. (i deleted the comment to avoid problems with thrustmaster) i am now about 1.5 weeks later and just recieved my t818 prior shipped in the mail. thrustmaster has bin nothing but helpfull in restoring the issue. and 1.5 weeks is damn fast. altough it sucked to have problems this early on. it could have bin expected with buying in preorder. and everything was fixed super fast. no complaints here.
hello there, interesting review as usual, seems the motor is based on the BA460M motors lineup. anyways, i noticed the LED around the wheel base. are these interactive? can they be programmed to display info such as flags or act as rev limiter warning?
The light ring is supposed to have the 'potential' to interact with games according to Thrustmaster, but it doesn't do that in any games I've tested yet. If it's left to developers to implement this, then it's unlikely we'll see that getting used.
@@SimRacingCorner once more thing that concerned me is the power, this unit is rated at 168W while the logitech G Pro is around 300W. so if they were to output the same torque, i think the TM unit is underpowered no ?
That is a curious anomaly and well spotted. Also, the CSL DD and R9 have 180watt PSU's, but with lower torque. The T818 strength does seem to match what it states, based on the in-game FFB strength settings I run these different wheelbases at. It appears the T818 is efficient. And I guess we don't know how much the G Pro is using of that 300 watts.
Hey! I have the T818 for more than 1 year now and while playing Dirt 2 it start to make a metal noise (friction between 2 metals whitout oil or similar) after 4-5 hours. Somewhere on the top right the cylinder scratches and the noise is really big, making it impossible to use by night. Why i bought this? ... Next time it'll be a real company with real passion like you said !
Iv come to the conclusion aswell with the sim racing garage, the wheel base isn’t my problems, it’s the plastic threads that they use on all there wheels, It causes so much flex when attached
I thought about going thrustmaster but went with Moza honestly glad i did the Moza stuff is nicer especially comparing H pattern shifters the hgp destroys the th8a i had for a few weeks
Shorter-"don't buy t818 for drifting" I had a t300 with both belts bearing mode(by the way I really recommend it I makes big difrence) , with all eco system from thrustmaster, so I got a t818, and first i was blown away how it works, and how good and quick the response is, but by the time I can figure it out how to set it up for drifting(99% time on sim drifting). One of the biggest problem of t818 is it smells like hot electronics after a quick session if it's intense like drifting and it's simple drivers, you just can't get It how u want it to be, with damper about(20-50%) the whell was to sponge, and without or little bit about(0-20%) it was to brutal(performance mode was the best). The biggest problem of this base(t818 for drifters) it's his constant torque, you can make it smoth like it should be with wheelcheck and lut for Assetto, but then the most of the details are gone. So you need to choose a pill. By the way flex on my with sparco wheel was very little. Soo I order moza r9 with cs steering wheel and spr pedals with load cell, I just download the moza pit house, choose drift preset, changed only force for about 3,5-4nm to make sure I'm driving all 3 wheels at exact same force, just open Assetto and drift like I was driving on this wheel all the time, it's just simply works. I linked the corners I never used to link that good. Moza just works and if u want you just can tinker the serting to your liking. Moza quality is like 2 levels above thrustmaster. Making my top 3 for the t300, t818, moza r9: sim racing 1.t818 (the best, fastest, and informative ffb) 2.moza r9(i think I can get most of it by the time I learn the pit house settings) 3.t300(just the belt driven wheel.) Drifting: 1.Moza r9 (it just works how it needs to and you can change it to your liking) 2.t300 (with bearings mode or without it's just good but the details are a little bit too late, to slow and soft) 3.t818(in other games it works better it's not as constant force or brutal like in assetto, but for me is the best sim drifting game, so the force is too constant and brutal, and after damper to spongy and slow so if you want to buy t818 for drifting just pick something else).
Well I have a lot of 3 wheels , the gear shifter and pro pedals so it's ok for me to upgrade to the base. If not I would probably go to moza or fanatec. But good to know that yhe base is good.
You didn't mention the quality of FFB between this and the Moza R9, just build quality, what's your thoughts on that aspect . It's just due to price and already having TM wheels and pedals, this could be the next upgrade for me.
At the time of writing the script, I hadn't used the R9 for a while, so couldn't be accurate on that detail, but I didn't think there was going to be a large gap in the FFB quality. The Logitech to me is clearly more advanced, so that was an easy one to add. However, when I was uploading this video last night, I did get the R9 setup again and ran some laps. I do prefer the R9, it has a bit more clarity to the detail.
I'd still pick the Moza R9. While I was uploading this review last night, I reinstalled the R9 on the rig and ran a few laps, and I can tell right away the clarity of the FFB is a bit better than the T818.
@@SimRacingCorner Thanks for the response. There was a crucial review for me from a spanish simracer who said there is some kind of progressivness in the FFB which differs from what you expect in a DD wheel. Did you have this kind of feeling or something different from the rest of the DD you've tried?
@@lopez37 I have 7 DD wheelbases now, and I can say with certainty, every one of them feels a bit different. I wouldn't say the T818 is doing anything out of the ordinary, it has its own flavour of FFB, as they all do. And the reason I test these wheelbases in several games; to make sure I can build a full picture, as the games themselves present FFB elements in their own way too.
what do you want in a ffb wheel? good ffb is the number one thing. what is the t818 good at? ffb lol. so what if its plastic if it doesn't need to be metal why use it. whats the big deal
few things missed - Logitech software sucks takes over pc and its riddled with bugs and over years has been known to effect pc in bad ways (ive experienced this for years). - thrustmaster wheel is backwards compatible and tons of options aftermarket as well as used ebay accessories at 1/2 the cost of new. LCM pedals are way superior to any Logitech pedals hands down. - Moza I dont know anything about them other then nice looking product but minimal options. Good review gave me some good feedback thank you.
Hello .nice review . I also have the t818. I know that it may sound strange but I would just like to know if after using the base for a few hours ...do you recommend switching it off with the rear button? or is it better to leave it always in the on position and shutting off the pc only to avoid damaging the button in the future? Thank you!!
i would get it if i had to get a wheel and everything but i have everything and three wheels so that is my next upgraded whenever it comes to the states. good video man.
Interested in getting my first wheel in decades. For someone who doesn’t PC game much anymore, mostly Xbox Series, is the quality of sim racing good enough on console and take good enough advantage of DD wheels to be worth the cost of Logitech G pro? Currently spending most of my time playing World of Outlaws, Grid Legends, F1 21 and waiting for the next Forza Motorsport - though I’ve no idea how well DD works in those games vs PC standards
The games you've highlighted don't take the full advantage of the fidelity of a DD even on PC (I haven't played World of Outlaws). The Logitech G Pro is complete overkill. The Fanatec CSL DD would be your best option if you still like the idea of a DD, being that it's cheaper.
Very surprised that it isn't console compatible. TM is an entry level/casual friendly company, they're not super hardcore like Simucube for example. The sort of customers that they should appeal to should be console users. Since this is PC only they now have to compete against the likes of Moza, Simagic and Logitech as well as Fanatec. I would say those are all better than the TM which is mostly plastic with a plastic QR.
Yeah somewhat surprising that they don't have a console version at launch but they have confirmed it's coming later. If I had to guess it probably has to do with the extra hoops they need to jump through to get licensed on the PS5 and Xbox
Don't go off me, but I have my fanatec 8nm GT pro premium bundle coming this week with an omega art cockpit. Reason I did fanatec over the logitec one was they have more wheels and such for fanatec. First rig, so I am no expert, but that's why I did fanatec
I have the Logitech pro wheel and pedals (bought for £1’199 with discount code and bundle discount). I’m a casual gamer and have used it only for PS5 at the moment. GT7 is amazing, and I’m becoming addicted because of this wheel. I’m actually winning online races (gr4 winner yesterday by 16 seconds). I’m faster, more consistent, and I smile a lot more whilst playing. It’s my first DD wheel so I can’t compare. It is expensive but it’s also great. I will try it in PC eventually.
I own two thrustmaster wheels and I can get a second hand fanatec. If you were in my position, which wheel base would you buy? T818, Fanatec or go to Moza + wheel and spent 1000€?
Considering you have a couple of TM wheels, I appreciate it adds hassle to change brand. But since I have used Fanatec, Thrustmaster, and Moza. And imagining that the decision means I'm going to be stuck with the hardware long-term, I would get the Moza R9.
I’m torn between the Logitech G Pro and the Moza R9. I don’t care much about the cost difference. You mention them both. Which one is better in your opinion?
I have reviewed both of these too. ▶ Logitech G PRO Racing Wheel [REVIEW] ruclips.net/video/v9NzT0vfn3U/видео.html ▶ MOZA RACING R9 DD [REVIEW] ruclips.net/video/JYnqOWpHH3o/видео.html
Thnx,i see alot of t818 videos but not so much about the logitech pro wheel, are you gonna do something like this about the logitech pro wheel also? anyway thanksfor all the content you are making
Im so torn, because I have the T300RS, looking at moza r9 id have to spend quite a bit because the rims are expensive. So id be looking at a 200-250 euro difference while still keeping the pedals and shifter. R5 is nicely bundle priced, but hard to place in comparison with other base reviews
I currently have a TM TX base and am looking to upgrade to DD. But I'm more of a casual, not a simracer. If the Moza R9 is cheaper than the T818, my question is, whether it is compatible with TM wheel rims? From what I've gathered, the Moza rims are slightly more expensive, than the TM ones. I'm looking for a reasonable middle ground between budget and quality, so a complete swap of ecosystem would probably be too costly.
Moza wheels are higher quality, so they are worth the extra. You could repurpose your TM wheels and convert them to USB using an adaptor, but the cost will rack up, in addition to needing Moza compatible QR adaptors.
Do not buy TM products. I own a T-300 , Open Wheel Ads On rim , T-LCM load cell.pedals . I bought all of these bramd new 3 years ago. ---Problems ---( TM Does not replace broken products ) --T-300 after 30 to 45 min FFB gets very weak ( 75% power ) --Open Wheel Add in Rim - Right shifter inner button broken , piece connected to the board the switch it's self . --- (I paid TM $26 to replace the inner plastic pieces did not fix the problem.) ---T-LCM throttle pedal very soft and short . This spring is way too soft and the pedal throw is far too short. ---Bottom of pedal set is all plastic and when breaking hard (red , red spring 70% BP) you can feel the flex coming from the bottom . Over all these are OK to buy when getting in to sim racing byt they are not quality made products . Lots of plastic , with absolute terrible customer support. Thrustmaster will not replace broken parts they will charge you shipping and a rebiluilt gee that ends up being over half the original purchase price to refurbish and fix your broken hardware. Every issue was a parts failure not improper use. Basicly the gear just giving up and burning out. Save a few more dollars and uograde to a Moza system before you over pay for this TM product.
Who would pay $650.00 for this, when you can get an R9 for $400 or an R12 for $590.00? This thing is mostly plastic and the wheel connection is definitely less stable.
No way the Logitech gets a recommendation over this. Is a giant bulky base, made of plastic as well, with no ecosystem at all. You cant even buy a open wheel rim for the G Pro.
I couldn’t disagree more.. I had this for 4 days and sold it.. cheap, unresponsive, ridiculously inconsistent. I’m in Australia and its $300 more than it should be, mounting options are primitive Why would anyone chose this piece of Chinese garbage (84% or parts are from china) over a MOZA I luckily could afford to buy to try I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOUR LAST 2 MINUTES Well done
It's absolutely fine to disagree, and I'm not going to argue any points on that. But, I will point out that complaining that it's Chinese garbage, when the Moza is also Chinese, is contradictory.
Thrustmaster can keep all their trash I'm done with me off bad with the tgt2 and crap tlcm pedals the constantly cut out garbage they can keep their direct drive
I have 2 wheels from thrustmaster and one from fanatec. If you were in my position which base would you buy? T818, Fanatec CLS DD or go to moza base + wheel and spent 1000€?

I agree!
Great review. Thank you for your honesty.
Clarification to avoid confusion: You don't need to use the Logitech Pro pedals with the G Pro wheelbase on a PC setup.
Always enjoy your videos !
I appreciate that!
good day, the question is, can I connect a steering wheel, for example, from another company, such as sparco ,fanatec and the like, thanks
Here's the answer ruclips.net/video/b4LqQsrMg38/видео.html
How can you not recommend? The fidelity of the ffb is instant thanks to the light parts. I have the T818 and I love mine.
You need to watch the entire review!
Its obviously a biased review.
Great review, can you share your rf2 in-game ffb settings?
Can’t wait console version! I ordered psvr2 with my t300 and t-lcm. But t818 is just another level

i cancelled my preorder exactly for that reason, too much plastic for the price AND i was a thrustmaster owner. i just sold everything.
Each thrustmaster thing i owned had problems :
-t500 became hot, i had to unmount external shell and add a new fan system
all spring of my t3pa pro broke, and after trying SAV, which was good, i finally decided to add my own springs, and i finally had a decent frankenstein-like t3pa-pro
-t300 had the same problem, i sold it.
Steering wheels are too soft, and move as you mentionned in your video, plus we can ear the plastic creaking each turn
-joysticks t16000 (i owned 2 of them) are well knowed for the Z axis potentiometer fail, and it happened on my both.
'airbus' joystick still have this problem.
Tlcm pedals can not be setup on clutch and gaz pedals, which are really weak and soft. (i can barely not feel the gaz pedal at all !!! )
Brake pedal need mods to be efficient, because only springs on a load cell cancel the load cell effect !!!
i mean there is absolutely no feeling in brake pedal because of the spring, and finally, conical brake mod on my t3pa pro was better !!!
and that's all for MY expérience with thrustmaster,
but its really enough for me,
I have no more thrust in thrustmaster...
Thanks for the review. I’ll eventully upgrade from my current Thrustmaster set up to this.
Gret review! I like the indepth price comparisons, no one else is doing that well enough at the moment. I'm too poor for these so called mid range DD wheels anyway, but at least I know the real value of them in case I hit lotto, lol.
I definitely agree that is way to expensive. And btw would be quite interesting to hear your opinion on simagic alpha mini.
I would like to test the Alpha Mini, but I don't see that prospect happening currently.
Hi i really need help with my simracing screen. Does the sf1000 when need an update to work with the t818?
(i deleted the comment to avoid problems with thrustmaster)
i am now about 1.5 weeks later and just recieved my t818 prior shipped in the mail.
thrustmaster has bin nothing but helpfull in restoring the issue.
and 1.5 weeks is damn fast.
altough it sucked to have problems this early on.
it could have bin expected with buying in preorder. and everything was fixed super fast.
no complaints here.
Good to hear things got sorted.
hello there,
interesting review as usual,
seems the motor is based on the BA460M motors lineup.
anyways, i noticed the LED around the wheel base.
are these interactive? can they be programmed to display info such as flags or act as rev limiter warning?
If in the future they bundle this with a new rim I might take the jump from my TS PC racer to this.
Read the comments under that review.. Barry didn't insert the screw in the quickrelease causing the flex.
I thought about going thrustmaster but went with Moza honestly glad i did the Moza stuff is nicer especially comparing H pattern shifters the hgp destroys the th8a i had for a few weeks
Shorter-"don't buy t818 for drifting"
I had a t300 with both belts bearing mode(by the way I really recommend it I makes big difrence) , with all eco system from thrustmaster, so I got a t818, and first i was blown away how it works, and how good and quick the response is, but by the time I can figure it out how to set it up for drifting(99% time on sim drifting). Making my top 3 for the t300, t818, moza r9:
sim racing
1.t818 (the best, fastest, and informative ffb)
2.moza r9(i think I can get most of it by the time I learn the pit house settings)
3.t300(just the belt driven wheel.)
Drifting:
1.Moza r9 (it just works how it needs to and you can change it to your liking)
2.t300 (with bearings mode or without it's just good but the details are a little bit too late, to slow and soft)
3.t818(in other games it works better it's not as constant force or brutal like in assetto, but for me is the best sim drifting game, so the force is too constant and brutal, and after damper to spongy and slow so if you want to buy t818 for drifting just pick something else).
I just want to say at the top that it's brilliant you still need to use the screw with the new QR adaptor .Classic TM
Well I have a lot of 3 wheels , the gear shifter and pro pedals so it's ok for me to upgrade to the base. If not I would probably go to moza or fanatec. But good to know that yhe base is good.
Which one do you recommend, this or Logitech pro G DD?
I do answer this in the video.
And here's my Logitech G pro review. ▶ Logitech G PRO Racing Wheel [REVIEW] ruclips.net/video/v9NzT0vfn3U/видео.html
Thanks for that @@SimRacingCorner
Hi and thanks for the review. At the same price, having in mind possible discount periods, would you go for the Moza R9 or the T818?
I was going to buy till I found out it doesn't work for PS5. So it's Logitech pro or fanatec. Still trying to decide do u have a favorite for PS5.
I don't have a PS5, so I can't really answer that for you.
What racing games do you play?
@@SimRacingCorner only IRacing
Considering you have a couple of TM wheels, I appreciate it adds hassle to change brand. But since I have used Fanatec, Thrustmaster, and Moza. And imagining that the decision means I'm going to be stuck with the hardware long-term, I would get the Moza R9.
I’m torn between the Logitech G Pro and the Moza R9. I don’t care much about the cost difference. You mention them both. Which one is better in your opinion?

Im so torn, because I have the T300RS, looking at moza r9 id have to spend quite a bit because the rims are expensive. So id be looking at a 200-250 euro difference while still keeping the pedals and shifter.
R5 is nicely bundle priced, but hard to place in comparison with other base reviews
Lmao nevermind, impossible to order because no resellers have it and thrustmaster refuse to ship outside their respective countries even within EU.

Wish they would announce a consoles version I would get one right away. Longer they leave it more chance people will go for the Fanatec DD
11 months later no word of thrustmaster DD for ps5 😢 come on !!!!!! Please????? At least let us know if its happening or not ??????? ??
This or moza?
I actually answer this in the review.
@SimRacingCorner I must've missed it thank you!
Surely a 10nm wheel base constructed from plastic is just asking for a catastrophic failure, no?
That's why they went with stiff, sturdy & lightweight nylon instead of "just" plastic
@@Sithhy np fan boy take your bias opinions else were, it's clearly plastic.
I went with the Moza R9 instead and no regrets 🙂

Do not buy TM products.
I own a T-300 , Open Wheel Ads On rim , T-LCM load cell.pedals .
I bought all of these bramd new 3 years ago.
---Problems ---( TM Does not replace broken products )
--T-300 after 30 to 45 min FFB gets very weak ( 75% power )
--Open Wheel Add in Rim - Right shifter inner button broken , piece connected to the board the switch it's self .
--- (I paid TM $26 to replace the inner plastic pieces did not fix the problem.)
---T-LCM throttle pedal very soft and short .
Basicly the gear just giving up and burning
out.
Save a few more dollars and uograde to a Moza system before you over pay for this TM product.
Who would pay $650.00 for this, when you can get an R9 for $400 or an R12 for $590.00? This thing is mostly plastic and the wheel connection is definitely less stable.
2:13 lol Can't find the hole or what buddy?? You savage! That poor USB port
Forget Thrustmaster's offer Rather go For The Logitech G Pro Racing Bundle money well spent
Man they came so close to a good product here, just a bit too pricey for what you get.
No way the Logitech gets a recommendation over this. Is a giant bulky base, made of plastic as well, with no ecosystem at all. You cant even buy a open wheel rim for the G Pro.
I'm assuming you haven't used either of these wheelbases?
It's not about the outside construction or the ecosystem, it's about how well the motor performs and the ffb feels.
I couldn’t disagree more.. I had this for 4 days and sold it.. cheap, unresponsive, ridiculously inconsistent.
I’m in Australia and its $300 more than it should be, mounting options are primitive
