Hey mate, been watching with interest as I've been doing rust work on my XC too.
You would be surprised whats happening under those gutters where you've done superficial repairs.
Mine looked similar, but I cut off about 40 cm, found rust hiding underneath, fixed it up, bought some new drip rails and welded them on as well as pop rivets which mine had factory.
Then seam sealer. It's not bog but seam sealer.
Gladly send you some photos if you want.
    All the best,
    John

      G'day John
Cheers for the info to honest I was concerned about that when I was looking up at the other side and realized that the gutter is a separate assembly. But the horse has bolted because the car was painted 3 years ago.
It was rest ripped to bare metal prior to paint and I can report that nothing has yet to emerge from that repair area
The only bit that has come up so far was the spot on the boot which started the whole job. It was a 1cm circle on top of the boot right in the centre that lifted the paint. it didn't seem to sinister so I treated it and so did my panel beater but it came up again. This time it was cut out and I refitted the boot 2 days ago
FYI the car has been registered for 18 months now and I will put pictures up soon of it in the paint booth
I started filming 6 years ago on my wife's instruction and have only just recently started putting it up on RUclips
Thanks for your advice I have filmed the entire project and will get it all out there as soon as I can
      Be good
      Blue

To save you bending over you could run a bit of board across where the fuel tank sits so you can sit down cleaning the old caulking out even buy a 90 degree adaptor for the drill so you can use a wire wheel get into the tight areas
