- New Orleans native Charlie Andrews demonstrates on how to make New Orleans Yaka-mein. It contains Beef chuck which is cut into strips and is used to make homemade beef stock. Spaghetti noodles is also added, and it's garnished with boiled eggs and chopped green onions. This recipe serves 10 or more people. Not only it is Old sober and a cure for hangovers, but it is absolutely delicious. Great for fall and winter weather. Hope you all will give this New Orleans classic dish a try.

Hey my friend! How are you doing on this blessed Friday evening and look delicious
Hello there! I am well and hope you are too. I appreciate the compliments. Thank you!!
@@CharlieTheCookAndrews you're so welcome my friend and I'm ok and thanks for asking
Ohh...my goodness. Thank you.
You're welcome, not a problem!
From Baltimore and my grandma made this….. her dad was an alcoholic and “taught” her 😅….. it wasn’t until the internet was a thing that we found out it wasn’t made up 😂
Wow. Ha ha ha right. 😂 I appreciate you for sharing your story. Thanks! 🙂
So is Yama-Mein similar to Vietnamese Pho?
Similar? Yes, but it's more of a Chinese inspired dish!
This is why New Orleans is on my bucket list. That city has so many different culinary influences as a result of its rich historic background. I'm grateful that we have natives there such as Charlie to expose this to those of us who can't quite make it there physically just yet to bask in the "Nawlins" experience..... Another job well done, SIR CHARLIE ❤️.
I appreciate the compliments! That is awesome and good to hear. Thanks so much!!
Lol. You make me proud to be a New Orleanian! What Montreal is to Canada, New Orleans is to the USA! 😊😊
@@mikhailbraggs3822 That is good to hear. I appreciate the compliments. Yes, absolutely. Thank you!!
Yes, I concur, and the ppl are NATUTALLY funny, without even trying.. I LOVE me some Nola ppl!!!!
Yes we are rich in culture! No other city in America, is like New Orleans! We stand out! We have the best food!
My family have been making and eating this for over 50 years. In Hampton Roads Va we add vinegar, ketchup and soy sauce with chopped onion (raw and cooked). We also use chicken or pork or beef.
That also sounds yummy!
In my parents day they added a little bacon grease too! As a teenager, I could buy a box of yock for .50!! Good eating for almost free.
Yes I forgot the bacon grease...I think we got it for like a $1 or $1.50 at the Chinese restaurant...Sing Wong in Portsmouth Va....
@Carol Thomas- That's good to hear. Seems like everyone has their own version of this classic dish!! Thanks for sharing!
@@carolthomas525 You know how we do from Portsmouth, My brother!😊

Hi Charlie! I love your channel, thanks so much for sharing your recipes! I’ve tried a couple and they are absolutely delicious! The clarity in ingredients and how to prepare the ingredients makes everything super easy to follow along with. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Hello there! Happy to hear that you enjoy my channel. You're welcome, not a problem. I appreciate the compliments. Thanks a lot. Hope you have a wonderful day as well.
Every ingredient was perfect. However, I prefer my spaghetti snapped into smaller bite-sized portions or substituted with starchy rice. My way would not be authentic, but then I never was a fan of soupy spaghetti🤦🏾♂️.
I appreciate the compliment. That's understandable. Thanks for sharing!
Charlie that's that smoke you heard me.
I know right. Thanks!
We add ketchup and hot sauce in New Orleans!!!!!! You must be a downtown resident. (To be honest I thought the ketchup ideal came from the jail house) R.I.P to my uncle had one of the longest black owned restaurants in the city! (N.Claiborne & Saint Philip) y'all must try the ketchup and hot sauce you won't ever eat it plain
Okay cool! The only thing I can say is that I've never seen or heard of anyone adding ketchup. I guess it's according to your location in the city. That is good to hear. Thanks for sharing my fellow New Orleans native!!
Yes sirr Cajun shrimp Pasta next I hope new Orléans style I know you gon kill that thang brother 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Oh, also!! I'm at the part where you strained the vegetables. That's so funny because the recipe I used actually called for it to remain in the broth, but mine were chopped up a lot more finely. Even so, I ended up straining the remaining broth out for the tupperware I was storing left overs in and got rid of all of the vegetables because I hated the texture and it didn't seem right. Glad to see you call for discarding the vegetables too!
That's something. Yes, the vegetables need to be strained.

Yes, that's understandable. I'm sure it has several different pronunciations.. lol 😆
Grew up eating this in South Philly. We called it Chinese Soul Food. Along with Egg Fu Young. We might have put ketchup on it in Philly. We put ketchup on everything there 😂.
