- A Star Trek game is about to boldly go onto our tables, and it's called Star Trek: Captain's Chair. Built around the core design of the Imperium series from David Turczi and Nigel Buckle, this game promises to be ALL things Star Trek. We've got some early details along with a look at many of the cards from the game!
Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments! Will you explore the final frontier?

Janeway is the best Captain, but I'm stoked to have a Romulan choice in the base game.
All the comments we've gotten about Janeway--it makes me feel like I need to go back and watch Voyager.
I watched star trek NG as a teen. I had Picard hanging on my wall. I love him
Captain Kirk. I can't wait for the inevitable expansion!
I want to know more about the gameplay! My favorite Captain is Picard. But all the newer series are awesome (Picard, Discovery, Strange new world). Really hope Star Trek Legacy will get a green light.
Picard any day. I am so excited for this game! I’m a huge trek fan and massive board gamer so for me this is perfection.
So glad we can finally talk about this game! Excited for you to see more!
Oh and I have a soft spot for Pike, but yeah I grew up with Picard. ❤
looking forward to this game!!
My favorite Federation Captain - Ben Sisko. love me some DS9!!
but would love to see Dominion play and get Captain Weyoun!!
I played the Decipher Star Trek TCG 1e way back when and loved playing as the Dominion!!
Yeah, lots to choose from. I enjoyed Janeway but my favorite Trek series was Voyager. Can't say 7-of-Nine didn't sway me but she didn't show up until season 4. Still, I'm surprised Kirk, Janeway, and Archer aren't in this right now. I get that you need diverse captains from different factions. Cardassians and Kazon are a must and you can't forget the Borg queen.
I'll throw a curveball and say Captain Shaw from Picard. Would love to see more of that character
Old Trek nerd here. My father and I used to watch an episode every day after dinner when I was teeny tiny; I love the new stuff; and I have younger friends bingeing from 1960s shows to today, seeing how each one is a product of its own era and vibe. Me, I love Michael Burnham, anything with time travel and parallel universe stuff, so I’d be all in on combining everything in one game stew.
Nice! Yeah, I like all Trek too--some more than others, but dig it all for the most part. This is the first Star Trek tabletop game I'm pretty excited for though. The Imperium skeleton is compelling!
Favorite? captain Janeway of course!
Saw a card that looks like it is from the Animated Series. If so, they are definitely plumbing the depths of all the series.
My favorite eventually a captain is Sisko. DS9 is my favorite of all the classic series. Not having Paramount+, I haven't seen more than the first season of Discovery, and all of Picard through discs. (Picard is an awesome three seasons BTW! Nice callbacks to storylines not only from TNG too!)
Well, might have found the one game I get (with money anyway) at Gen Con if they end up having any copies for sale. You two sure are bad for wallet planning trajectory bringing something like this up... 🤣 Plus, I got Imperium from one of your cullings, so am already a bit familiar. Looking forward to seeing this one on a future Wednesday Live!
We play Imperium with 2 players against an automated opponent using the solo rules which makes it somewhat less head-to-head (which we prefer). Would be nice if David and Nigel could build this into this new version, or even something fully cooperative. It's a system that is so close to supporting these out of the box.
Full speed ahead collision course heading. I am my favorite captain. All power to phasers FIRE EVERYTHING!!!
Favorite comment of the day! Thanks! 🤣
Sisko is my favorite.
SISKO!!! Oh my god, DS9 is so underrated...
A lot of people definitely feel that way. I must say, I like Pike quite a bit from Strange New Worlds.
sounds super cool
Yeah, I like Imperium, but I might end up loving this iteration.
Check out the BGG forum about this game. I am super excited for it. Going to buy and learn imperium horizons to get ready.
No miniatures? those cardboard cut-outs ships are a real immersion breaker for me.
Saru is my favorite captain.
You painfully explained the TNG episode “Yesterday’s Enterprise”. Lol. Tasha Yar wasn’t dead in the alt universe when she was sent back in time.
Excited for this!
They are demoing at GenCon and Essen but not guaranteed for release at Essen yet. Can pre-order now. I love Star Trek over Star Wars. Glad there is another game coming out. Glad to see a fellow nerd David. Pike was also in first episode of original ST.
Kirk is the best. But Picard is a hair behind!
Pike has best hair.
Games looks great. Just wait how it plays. I grew up with Captain Kirk, and will always be my favorite.
Mirror dimension Captain Tilly is the best, but from the Prime Universe, it has to be Kirk (of course, I am really old...)
Star Trek fan here. Better than SW for sure
Kirk :)
Captain Pike!
Heck yeah! Silly question, but who plays Pike best?
My favorite captain is Janeway, especially in the earlier seasons. Her dedication to the Prime Directive above all makes her a paragon of what a Starfleet captain should be.
I’ve never watched much Voyager, so I’m not sure if this is sarcasm.
Where is Kirk?!?!?
I would expect him to appear in an expansion
captain sisko
Sisko seems to be leading the polls.
Regarding the artwork vs screen grabs debate... I'd like to find anyone who can make the case that painted artwork provides more immersion than actual screenshots. Any fan of Star Trek is instantly brought into the scene with an actual still image from that scene. That's a level of immersion which artwork can NEVER provide.
Janeway is the best captain.
