lol. It's so easy mindlessly shred on a harp but so hard to play melodies and improvisations even half as cleanly as this guy does. Easily one of the hardest instruments to master and not accidentally play a diad when you wanted a single note.
nemo227 " Then reality sets in. " , just bought my first SW1664 Chromatic , I wanna open a cold can of WhupAzz on reality ( HATE to think I just pissed $70 buks away ). Liked your comment tho'
Whoa! Such precision with some mighty swing. Reminds me of hearing Al Jarreau sing/scatting Take Five. Achille demonstrates how expressive the Harmonica can be. Respect. Jam on!
3:42 that was a dirty lick, great playing man. Regardless of your absurd technical harmonica abilities you have a really interesting style that really suits the instrument. keep it up
I just got my first chromatic. I am so excited to learn. You’re my inspiration. Im a piano player. But the harmonica’s beautiful color and tone has me enamored.
A tip if you have the money, buy another brand of Harmonica, I have one and the quality of the build (and the sound) was really bad. it's good for practice though.
Who are the ones who gave it a thumbs down, I am 77yrs of age and spent my life wanting to be as good as this. Awesome Philip. You are up there with the greats Larry, Toots Etc Etc .should have mentioned your Mentor The Great Jim Hughes.
Philip’s skill is impeccable for this piece. 🎼👍🏻 He plays Eb as Paul Desmond’s piece is in Eb. Almost all notes in Eb key on a C chromatic are slide in except some of the hole 7 draw, one hole 5 draw, and one hole 5 blow and some hole 4 draws and hole 3 draws. Lucky this song is short. So the pain to play Eb on a C chromatic harmonica is short.
We recognize a master class not by the hole number, nor after whether the slider is used more or less. One of the factors that indicate mastery in terms of playing the chromatic harmonica it is using multi-voice playing, in thirds, sixths, especially in octaves. Nevertheless, it is true that certain keys for selected songs for the chromatic harmonica there are better ones and some worse ones. For example, we don't like playing Monti's Czardas, however, Hora Staccato Dinicu is played very well.
This really reminds me of my granpa, I never met him he died when I was about 11 months old but appearently he was a great jazz harmonica player, I heard a record of him from 1960...I'd really would like to jam with him as a guitarist...Thanks for uploading dude :) Sounds awesome!
Watched/listened to your Take Five again. After 3 months it still takes my breath away. Its your masterpiece man... until you come up with another one. Never heard such strong and tasteful use of double stops on harp like this.
It's amazing how when you play your harmonica belongs to your soul. I am a left handed chromatic harmonica beginner. Hearing your make dream ! From Day to Day I Will work to improve my skills in playing harmonica. Thank you for your vidéo. You are for me one of the player I prefer to listen to.
I was not aware in anyway that you can play JAZZ with the harp! Going to learn some Lee Morgan with my new chromatic! THANK YOU SO MUCH! 😁 Also you are a phenomenal musician! Sounded like Coltrane!
Playing the changes on such a piece with this much elegance and clarity, I think as a jazz student I'll transcribe it and pick up a lot of licks , best regards great sir 😀
This is ridiculously good. Tell me he’s famous. This is Toots Theilman/ Madcat Ruth level genius. Mastering the chromatic!! Give me lessons sir please.
Thank you very mutch for your videos, J think sincerely you are the best harmonica cromatic player, about any point of view : sound, way of playin', feeling, and sense of improvisation. Bravo!
Oh man, that's good! At first I was thinking that he's just staying in the key, first solo, but then you did something different, something you just don't hear many harp players do. I like how you go back to the head after a few choruses too. Really nice.
I never had know the Chromatic Harmonica to be a player in many group but i find it a really great instrument to study, Phil does a great job with technical execution and phrasing!
God youre smokin', dude!! True musicianship. I couldn't imagine that one can make solo on modal tune THAT interesting. Thank you for a lot of GREAT licks to steal :)
Just started !earning to play chromatic, I love playing the diatonic but wow listening to you play with amazing skill and soul has inspired me. Amazing player!!!
This is the way we all hope to play when we first buy a harmonica. Then reality sets in.

@@stevehtml5490 I used to be impatient when I couldn't learn something quickly and then I began to understand that we learn what we live with . . .
Lol no truer words have ever been spoken.
@@nemo227wow, I agreed
Its nice to hear a harmonica player with outrageous abilities who can still manage to sound good, and play with soul.
+Gachitadamunga Thank you so much for your comment. That's really nice of you to say.
Charlie Parker take 5 on harmonica superb.
Actually it's Dave Brubeck with Paul Desmond on sax. Paul Desmond wrote the song.
that's a fact 👍👍👍
Philip Achille You got that Turner look. We kin somewhere back.
Whoa! Such precision with some mighty swing.

@@twinkytwinklier4047 Precisely ... we are waiting for his return. Me for almost a decade.. What mastery .. what rhythm !
Notes are so cleanly played in this rapid jazz piece. Take Five is no easy song to play by any means great job Sir Philip!

That's the finest harmonica playing I've ever seen. You, Sir, have an astounding talent.
wonderful articulation, strong command of the Chromatic.
What a beautiful rendition of a timeless standard. Love it.
