this is the same exact story i always picture, an innocent soul growing exposed to the harsh realities of the world, but also realizing that there is a balance
Can't you hear it? Can't you hear him singing his heart out through this piece? Phrasing is not what happened here that made this performance so well executed. There are many recordings on youtube of this song that are played correctly and with good phrasing. The reason why this performance was so great is because he had something that he wanted his audience to feel with him by listening to his performance.
I saw him at the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra last week, and his version of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 made me cry. And I'm not even a classical music aficionado.
The phrasing and tempo is phenomenal. Best interpretation of this masterpiece I've ever heard/seen. This man plays the piano with his heart and you can feel it... Bravo!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
That was the correct note at 3:35. You need to listen to other versions of this piece to know that it is a vital part of the music. Andrew is incredible. We saw him in person with the Detroit Symphony orchestra. He played the Grieg Piano concerto in A minor. A fabulous, moving performance. I would recommend any see Andrew in concert if you get the chance!
TROLL he played it a little louder than most but the reason it’s important is that it creates a lot of tension in that chord. So when the next notes are played they sound even better. It’s the same with the 4rd chord of the song, it’s create tension which is how Debussy wanted it to sound
@@yeon723 It's the 7 of the V7. It adds tension to the dominant chord. The way he plays it just accents the note because he plays it loudly and slightly delayed, so it may seem out of place at first, to some.
He is a Alchemist of Debussy’s music Andrew's specutacular performance with exquisite skill and breathtaking technique is beyond description , immeasurable , unfathomable , inspirational , graceful and comfortable to the ear and the mind There is something extraordinary in his superb performance From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
Andrew is a fantastic pianist, full of emotion and an extremely handsome man. I have never seen a man more handsome than him. I am a guy and I don't feel ashamed to say this but when I see him playing I love everything about him, his hands, his hair, his beautiful body and presence on the stage. He looks and sound like an angel sent to visit us.
At my beginning on You Tube , I very often listened to him playing this Clair de Lune a very big number times . It’s always magnificent and moving 💖👏👏👏
Fantastic interpretation. I always think about Andrew’s interview where he bragged about the size of his hands and fingers! I guess he’s been blessed in many areas ;)
MY MOTHER WAS TAUGHT PIANO BY THE NUNS AT ST BENEDICTS PARISH IN CHICAGO FROM 1939 TO 1946....she was also a soprano opera singer....in english....and german....in1949....she went back to germany....and went back to germany to see her granma....and sang perfectly in a german opera......i have some of the pictures from that opera.....
What is it about this piece that is so singular, spare, economical, and heart-rending at the same time? Could this, along with perhaps Beethovan's "Moonlight" Sonata, be the most beautiful "Spare" keyboard piece ever written? No, it is not complicated. This one does not have thrilling arpeggios, runs, complexities. Yet, in its' spareness and concise structure, it speaks volumes. So understated, so pure of line and tone, so quiet, yet deep.....Clair de Lune"....is beauty incarnate, all in a short piece that thrills everytime it is played like this by Oeyen.... Bravo..
***** economical: "using no more of something than is necessary". I think that's a fantastic way to describe this short yet incredibly deep piece of music. Taking the time to let everyone know you are unable to understand a word unless it's used in a context you've seen it in before, now that's hilarious.
Very beautifully done! I suppose it's just inevitable that someone is always going to clear his/her throat, cough, blow their nose, etc., during the performance no matter where you are in the world. It's just human, I guess. Like I said, very beautifully done! Bravo!
My mom played this on piano growing up. Somewhat clumsy I guess. She is still alive today…but I know this song will bring me to me knees one day after she passes and I hear it again. It’s beautiful and pictures my moms tough life to a tee
The best interpretation that I ever heard, I feel in love with this piece again, I wish that someday I could play piano like you, you're awesome ! (sorry for my horrible english)
Definitely American Steinway without the renner action to produce the famous Jorge sound effects. Please rinse and repeat on German Steinway. Excellent performance.
When i hear a good pianist i always think, why didnt i learn to play an instrument ... But i guess its not possible for most people to do it properly, most people lack the talent and the motivation and the money to pay for good teachers. The classical music world is still one of the most "elite" worlds of all ...
MY MOTHER...WAS A CONCERT PIANIST.....AND WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT WITH ME....IN HER STOMACH....in 1957......SHE USED TO PLAY HER PIANO TO THIS SONG..AND. I REMBER LOVING THIS SONG.....BEFORE I WAS BORN......AND MANY OTHERS.....SHOPAN....BACH.....MUST I GO ON????..SO....THE DAY THAT I WAS BORN...I HAD ...PERFECT PITCH.....NO ONE IN THIS WORLD HAS MY GIFT...
The best version on youtube! The phrasing, the tempo, the dynamic omg all are perfect 😍
Reminds me of a child being born, growing up, then experiencing lifes ups and downs and finally realizations at different periods in their life.
I love how classical music always seems to tell a story so clearly without any need for words
this is the same exact story i always picture, an innocent soul growing exposed to the harsh realities of the world, but also realizing that there is a balance
damn just listen to the song mate
@@TortoiseNo.3 lovely grasp on it:)
Life sucks. Much more downs than ups

I agree.
My favorite interpretation .
one of the best versions of Claire de lune by Debussy
BESONOV IVAN IS BETTER
LOL. And there was also Victor Borghe ;) @@ferube4171
I was felt lonely. Debussy is fantastic and His performance is beautiful.
Beautiful interpretation. The tempo is exquisite as is the emphases.
IMO it’s really trash the rallentando in mm 69 was not executed well... it’s 420 beats off even after the rubato poco et poco 😐
I love de bussy, always hap 😂

Can you elaborate as to why that was a vital part? it sounds like a mistake.

I saw katia's ( Buniatishvilli) version but she is way technical for me.
This guy has the precise amount of thecnique and FEELING.
I loooooove how it so subtly resolves in the chord after its like butterrrrr
It’s my all time favorite song of my lifetime
Yes
👍🏿🎹
Ever?
this is the best interpretation I've heard of clair de lune
My late father, Maurice Shepherd's signature piece. I miss you Daddy xxx

Yes, Andrew von Oeyen played this recital at Kioi Hall in Tokyo. It was broadcast by NHK in 2013. No question….
