Most people don't know what to look for as far as in quality on work like that. I piss casket delivery people off all the time. When they deliver, I go ALL THE WAY AROUND inside and out, and if it's scratched, marred, torn, stained, anything, even a little. I will refuse it , and demand they bring me a good one. I don't get to many bad ones anymore. If it's not good enough for my mom, then it's not good enough for one of the families I serve.
I have the skills and tools to construct my own casket. I plan to use red cedar and line it with white (or royal blue, I haven't decided) ripstop nylon.
It matters because it is a final respect to the dead. Would you want your mother to be in a shotty casket? Would you want to be put into a particle board, lousy casket for all eternity? Isn't your life worth a decent job? Not to mention what these sharks are charging for sloppy work.
Coffins are rarely used in the United States. Caskets have a spring couch underneath, and the head can prop up so you don't have to lean over into the casket to view the deceased. 😟
From what i have read caskets are usually made for above ground vaults , not sure of the proper name of those resting places to be honest , but yes in above ground resting place a casket is used i believe. coffins are for but not strictly for burial, caskets i think can be buried as well depends on your country how they do things.
Caskets came in to play more in America because of the rise of the concrete graveliner or vault. Coffins are 6 sided and don't fit as well into the box as the 4 sided casket. In America, Graves are only about an inch wider on each side then the vault and the vault is only about an inch wider then the casket. It's a very tight fit!! I am not aware of how things are done in Europe and elsewhere, it might be the same and it might be different, but the graveliner or vault is installed to prevent the casket lid from collapsing from the weight of the dirt or when the back hoe drives over it to dig the next grave. The casket goes in the liner or vault and a lid goes on top, then you fill it in, it's also "protection" from grave robbers, not that it's really a problem these day. The use of liners or vaults is decided on by the Cemetery, not the funeral home. The Cemetery decides what it requires to be in the grave and then the funeral home sells accordingly. Some old cemeteries you can be buried straight in the ground still, but 99% of them require a liner of some kind for keep the casket safe and to prevent the dirt from sinking in on the grave and constantly having to back fill Graves to keep them smooth for maintenance and visitation.
Because Americans and their insatiable appetites(and expanding waistlines) have "outgrown" their ability to fit inside a coffin, so they need the extra space that a casket provides ;-)
beautiful coffin, and lining, but unfortunatly a very sloppy application of the velvet because the man is just in a hurry and seems like he doesn't even care. Just wants to get it done. Slow down, and pay attention to the edges. This is the final resting place for someone who obviously is going to pay quite a heavy fee to honor their loved one and it deserves their full attention.
@@RADIUMGLASS Well Sir, it is now quite obvious that judging by your reply, you clearly do not care. I will NOT "shut up" as this person deserves a final bit of respect. Your reply will most definitely be a warning to anyone else that might happen on your work and be able to think twice before you get a penny. Shame on you Sir.
Awful!!! Nothing new in that is there, been used for the last 60 years that I know of. What is new though the awful colour of coffin lining with a ruffle. A typical example of cheap and nasty
David, when 'our time comes' surely we will be beyond seeing, or caring. Your term morbid, I can't agree with, death is a part of life and in my view is not talked about enough, especially amongst loved ones. I recently had to undergo Major Surgery, and during the course of the week prior to my operation, I together with the support of my partner, paid for and organised my funeral and coffin requirements. Not only did I enjoy the whole process, I found it very satisfying to know how the whole business would proceed. On top of that, I have to say that I have never had so much fun and laughter whilst dealing with all professional people concerned, and I am confident that they too would concur. Laughter, in my view, takes the sting out of most things, and in that, I do not think that death has any exemption. As you can see, I am still here, though not yet out of the woods, but for what it's worth, I am a semi retired Upholsterer, who yesterday took delivery of MY coffin, and I am about to start lining it out, whilst I am still able! I have always tried to live by the creed, " You have got to have colour in your life ", and " Tomorrow is promised to nobody". Peace.
We are building our uncles coffin as a family and my daughter and I are doing the lining. We’re using calico for a natural fibre but I wanted to see what the trade does to see if it was similar to my idea. So: it was a good resource for us.
Death is something everyone must face, why not have a say in something that you are going to have to go through no matter what!!! Death isn't morbid, it's something to be celebrated, a good death, a Death of your choosing, do I wanna die at home? Or do I wanna die in the hospital hooked up to machines surrounded by strangers? Things like that. Everyone should look for the "Good Death" because fact of the matter is, you aren't going to escape it!!!
Beautiful stunning very neatly made. Thanjs so much for showing us how to make and put the lining in. A+++++
4:00 Undertaker’s Bum crack alert 🚨 😂🤣👍
I agree. Beautiful coffin - sloppy velvet stapling. I’d like one with bark blue velvet. How much do they run?
Tt
They're cheaply made!

Ive wondered why caskets have displaced coffins for the most part in North America.
I suspect it's because caskets cost more and therefore give a greater profit margin.

This coffin will not be opened after the body is placed inside, no viewing as is done in the USA
Poppycock people still have open coffin viewings . I would not have accepted this sloppy workmanship at least my own coffin will be better than that.

shut up.

@@emeraldfox7175 Who cares! It's getting burned anyway!
What is the point of any video showing a coffin it's morbid and uncalled for I'm sure we will all find out when our time comes.
