    My favourite board is still a F2 Sputnik 270 out of 1995 ! For GPS-speedsurfing, it goes pretty well : I hit the 70 km/h with this board. In the 90's, you had a lof of these "speed needle" designs : Kinetic, AHD, F2 Sputnik, Mistral....But Bjorn Dunckerbeck was for decades on top with the F2 Sputnik designs....I believe the Sputnik 270 was the fastest serial production board at that time. So, find yourself a old Sputnik 270, flat water and 20 knots of wind and you easily hit the 60 km/h !!

      @cjeslicabaas3729 5 месяцев назад

      Hé Jan😄. Yeah the right old board are seriously fast. I still have a Cobra slalom 270 from 1994. It’s 270x52 90 liter. The f2 Sputnik is based on this shape. And yes the cobra 270 was the fastest production board of that year (69km/h in the German speedcontest). I still have it but don’t surf it. The reason.. fins. The newer fins are so much better than the old fins. The cobra uses a pb fin. Good race fins are almost only in Tuttlebox. Maybe a new fin can be ordered in PB. But that’s to much money…. Well it looks interesting to try the old cobra again 😄.

      do you know what boards after f2 sputnik were plenty fast as i observed they got mostly wider and more comfortable?

    • @RP6conrad
      @RP6conrad 2 месяца назад +1

      @@pozytywniezakrecony151 Even the modern speedboards are still very narrow (45 - 50 cm), but for slalom it seems that some extra width and cutouts are now the standard. I believe that the modern slalomboards are certainly faster in the chop, but you have to ride on the fin. Not so easy....

    Hi Mario. I've been windsurfing for 40 years. I had took a long pause until 2018 and restarted 5 year ago with new gear. The first period on the new boards was a complete mess, something like you have experienced on the Kinetic. By the way, I've owned a Kinetic as well a long time ago. It was 2.85 m, 110 l, 6.5kg naked!!!!!!, shaped by Jimmy Lewis. It was very fast. You should reach 30 knts quite easily with your 1Eur board. Let us know in another video!! Cheers.

    Awesome video again, love that the old stuff is still getting used and that you are promoting it actively while having a shop. Just awesome. I have this idea for a video that would be so awesome.
    I would love to see/ participate in a budget showdown. You and Nils get a small budget and need to find a set secondhand. It would be so interesting to see how you would spend the money, and of course test who has the fastest set in a race.

    I think I currently have 5 boards and they all look like that antique you demoed in this video. I remember when friends were starting to get the wider, shorter boards and thought they were a big mistake. Maybe I need to re-think that position. I didn't sail at all last year but I'm committed to getting out on the water this Spring. Thanks for your encouragement!!!

    Interesting video Mario. I windsurfed, including competitive racing, in the 1980s and 1990s. I stopped windsurfing around the year 2000. Recently, just before COVID, I started again and I am loving it! The newer boards are completely different with the wider, shorter shape, and they sail so nicely. I would say the top speed is actually not that different from the old gear, but the ease of sailing, earlier planing, carrying you through lulls and super easy carve gybes is the main difference. The short wide shape just feels like you are skimming on the tail. And the short nose also means that you are not terrified of burying the nose on a broad reach! If there are people out there with old gear looking to upgrade I would definitely recommend updating the board first, the older sails, even 20 years old, still work pretty well on the newer boards. I know this because most of my sails are from the early 2000s.

    I know that feeling I used to sail a lot in the 90's on those old gunny boards and for the first time in years hired some nice modern windsurf equipment on holiday using a JP slalom board and Neil Pride sails and felt like a raw beginner. So different.. it took me a week to even begin feeling comfortable with it.

    Greetings from Canada. Great video: I love the spirit and enthusiasm. Personally, I have windsurfed for over 30 years. The very early high-wind gear was much less versatile than today’s but we still had huge fun with it. I find that non-race gear from the last fifteen years is good enough for most recreational sailors to really enjoy if they are on a budget. If not, then it’s even nicer to treat yourself to newer gear like either of those beauties that you are giving away!
    Just remember that it’s not “he who has the most toys”, it’s “he/she who wears out the most toys” who really wins :)

    57 years old and started windsurfing again 3 years ago. The same excitement and screaming on the water 🙈 from sensation 😂. Do have troubles though with the counter balance. Meaning used to lift the boom and mast to pull board out , now you need pressure of sail to push down on board and boem ! you go in planee.

    Great video, I learnt to windsurf in maybe '83 or '84 on a 22kg Bic. Later I convinced my dad we could share a Hifly 320. and then a while later I had a go on a friend's Sailboard 295, I thought I was sailing a jet fighter! Then in 90's I bought a Fanatic Ray 280, and it was considered sooooo small at the time. I think this board maybe similar size to your featured board. Now I can put an 8sqm on my Goya proton and go twice as fast, and so much easier to carve. Progress!

    Using new sails on old boards need the mastbase as far back as possible. Modern sails are sailed much more upright and with center of pressure much more forward. The new sails allowed the boards to become shorter (they evolved together).

    This one was a nice surprise. I had used slalom and wave boards in the nineties and they are still waiting in my shed. I dusted off my Mistral Edge 97 litre recently that is literally flying in high winds. It took me a while to get accostumed to modern slalom bords, but it was well worth the effort. Anyways, it’s still a great fun to take out the oldies every once in a while. Please trim the old-timer to see its full potential for another video!

    Great content Mario, thanks! I might dust off my first board (from 30+ years ago) and give it a blast in the summer

    Hey Mario, thanks for bringing old stuff back to light ! But however how "fair" you intend to be, it's difficult for someone who grew up on new equipment to fully harness the potential of old one. The same happened to me the other way around. I started at age 43 on old 1€-stuff so the first thing I what to say is that it's definitely possible to learn and have fun with the old equipment, making windsurf a really *cheap* sport compared to some others. Secondly, from time to time I get to try out new equipment and for me it doesn't feel easy at all, because all my technique is targetted towards mastering the old-style equipment. This is not to deny that ultimately the new stuff is not better than the old one, but again, switching from one to the other remains difficult and thus comparisons get unfair.

    Old boards tend to rotate around the horizontal middle axis more, to make it difficult for beginners. It's just little less balanced.
    When going from an old board to a new one, the new one felt more easy surfing 😁
    That's what everything is about: just have fun!

    Hi @MarioKumpel! First things first: you are doing a very great job going international with the channel. I've never thought it will be such a breeze for you!
    I'm getting into Windsurfing again only for Wave Surfing. It would be a dream if I can grab one of the OG Boards 😂

    Amazing to see the comparison of the two boards. I am currently learning on old stuff from my dads garage as well. Haven’t tried new boards yet!

    love the old stuff. Brings back lots of good memories. sailing those oldies requires a lot of switching of technique.

    Great video. I myself always check for used equipment. Never thought that old boards would be so light. My 2021 freeride board is just sooo heavy.

    Great video. I really like the content on winter surfing. I think it shows a realistic situation for 95% of windsurfers.

    I always love to see that you don't need to have only the newest equipment and spent half a years worth of rent to enjoy the sport!

    This video just made my day! I have - among others - a Berky 9 footer, it is feather light and scary fast.
    I could live 200 years and will never gybe it, yet the thrill of that long slim shape is incredible.
    It's measurements are very similar to a Thommen 275.
    Great video, try to find another deal.
