Hey Mario, thumbs up and respect for the test, even of the weather 😂 I bought my 11 years old boy an fanatic comet… gonna try it in spring also 😅 best Christoph from Hannover😊
Hi Mario. I'm 16 years old and I like to go windsurfing as often as possible. I've been watching your videos for a few years now... I would be very happy about one of the boards. LG Jakob
Hi Mario. I've been windsurfing for 40 years. I had took a long pause until 2018 and restarted 5 year ago with new gear. The first period on the new boards was a complete mess, something like you have experienced on the Kinetic. By the way, I've owned a Kinetic as well a long time ago. It was 2.85 m, 110 l, 6.5kg naked!!!!!!, shaped by Jimmy Lewis. It was very fast. You should reach 30 knts quite easily with your 1Eur board. Let us know in another video!! Cheers.
My favourite board is still a F2 Sputnik 270 out of 1995 ! For GPS-speedsurfing, it goes pretty well : I hit the 70 km/h with this board. In the 90's, you had a lof of these "speed needle" designs : Kinetic, AHD, F2 Sputnik, Mistral....But Bjorn Dunckerbeck was for decades on top with the F2 Sputnik designs....I believe the Sputnik 270 was the fastest serial production board at that time. So, find yourself a old Sputnik 270, flat water and 20 knots of wind and you easily hit the 60 km/h !!
Hé Jan😄. Yeah the right old board are seriously fast. I still have a Cobra slalom 270 from 1994. It’s 270x52 90 liter. The f2 Sputnik is based on this shape. And yes the cobra 270 was the fastest production board of that year (69km/h in the German speedcontest). I still have it but don’t surf it. The reason.. fins. The newer fins are so much better than the old fins. The cobra uses a pb fin. Good race fins are almost only in Tuttlebox. Maybe a new fin can be ordered in PB. But that’s to much money…. Well it looks interesting to try the old cobra again 😄.
@@pozytywniezakrecony151 Even the modern speedboards are still very narrow (45 - 50 cm), but for slalom it seems that some extra width and cutouts are now the standard. I believe that the modern slalomboards are certainly faster in the chop, but you have to ride on the fin. Not so easy....
Awesome video again, love that the old stuff is still getting used and that you are promoting it actively while having a shop. Just awesome. I have this idea for a video that would be so awesome. I would love to see/ participate in a budget showdown. You and Nils get a small budget and need to find a set secondhand. It would be so interesting to see how you would spend the money, and of course test who has the fastest set in a race.
I just bought my first sail (7.8 duotone e pace ) I was using rentals before as well as the boards, and I would be so happy to win because I don't have another 1500 eur laying around to buy new board.
Great video Mario . Last summer I gave away my old custom wave and replaced It for a newer Jp FWS. I share your feelings , it's been a Big Evolution in our sport
Hi Mario, Ich finde deine Videos mega geil. Mach weiter so!
I really felt the same way. I learned windsurfing on materials of the 70s, then i had a long pause and restarted it 2 years ago. The modern boards are so easy to drive in any way. Much respect to the guys who had not the pleasure to ride modern material and experience the great difference.
It's great to see comparisons between old and new tech. I believe there actually is sense to all the developments in all those years. Obviously I would love to win a wave board, either old or new! Greetings from Tallinn.
hey, I'm so happy that you run the channel and constantly produce cool videos for us. I'm a windsurfer myself and am always happy to watch someone else's passion. Kind regards, Kenneth
Hello Mario, It seems like there is a lot of enthusiasm for windsurfing in Germany even though it's so cold in the winter there, it's a hotspot for windsurfing. 😂
Hi Mario, Love to see that you took the comparison between the old and new gear to your channel. It is something I do on each occasion windsurfing as I only surf the old gear that is neglected now but most (never surfed a modern board in my life😅). And to compare it with all the modern gear the other surfers out on the water with me and share it on RUclips. And where with times I really get surprised that gaps of thirty years in development did bring more easy of of use, windrange usability but often far less improvement of speed to the amateur level of windsurfing. Like in this occasion head to head with a modern 2023 3000€ North sail and Slalom board and my 90's 0€ slalom/freeride gear of Wave Warrior: ruclips.net/video/JchTb_xuVtY/видео.htmlsi=SlIok-MJcgkShwqq Or this 80s 0€ speed gear Cobra 275 Speed and Fivestars Sail with foam foil: ruclips.net/video/UXfYqVXthy8/видео.htmlsi=IhnAuPdtI0eHKhAu Where I am very curious what your experience will be on the old board with an improved/modern fin. Hey Mario, thanks for bringing old stuff back to light ! But however how "fair" you intend to be, it's difficult for someone who grew up on new equipment to fully harness the potential of old one. The same happened to me the other way around. I started at age 43 on old 1€-stuff so the first thing I what to say is that it's definitely possible to learn and have fun with the old equipment, making windsurf a really *cheap* sport compared to some others. Secondly, from time to time I get to try out new equipment and for me it doesn't feel easy at all, because all my technique is targetted towards mastering the old-style equipment. This is not to deny that ultimately the new stuff is not better than the old one, but again, switching from one to the other remains difficult and thus comparisons get unfair.
57 years old and started windsurfing again 3 years ago. The same excitement and screaming on the water 🙈 from sensation 😂. Do have troubles though with the counter balance. Meaning used to lift the boom and mast to pull board out , now you need pressure of sail to push down on board and boem ! you go in planee.
Greetings from Canada. Great video: I love the spirit and enthusiasm. Personally, I have windsurfed for over 30 years. The very early high-wind gear was much less versatile than today’s but we still had huge fun with it. I find that non-race gear from the last fifteen years is good enough for most recreational sailors to really enjoy if they are on a budget. If not, then it’s even nicer to treat yourself to newer gear like either of those beauties that you are giving away! Just remember that it’s not “he who has the most toys”, it’s “he/she who wears out the most toys” who really wins :)
I think I currently have 5 boards and they all look like that antique you demoed in this video. I remember when friends were starting to get the wider, shorter boards and thought they were a big mistake. Maybe I need to re-think that position. I didn't sail at all last year but I'm committed to getting out on the water this Spring. Thanks for your encouragement!!!
Hi Mario, I like the video! My son and I are windsurfing for 2 years together now. It’s a great father-son hobby. I’m always interested in reusing gear that another’s personal does not need anymore. So keep such videos coming!
Nice video, Mario! I really agree with you. I mean it's possible to have a lot of fun with old gear too, especially if it are in good condition, and boards usually last very long time. In my case I use to windsurf in Sardegna with my old windsurfing equipment. I have a waveboard, Fanatic Goya 72 from 2001, and a freestyle wave, Fanatic Skate 95 from 2003. Both boards are light and stiff. I also use a quiver of old NP Combat from 2005 (still going strong) and an RDM Powerex 85% carbon mast. I still have a lot of fun with them. Just the straps, the boom, and obviously the mast base are new. The Goya 72 (for sure single fin) is a pretty technical board because it's a narrow board (250x53cm) with a no-nose shape, compared to the new shorter wider multifin modern boards, but I still really enjoy my sessions with it, even in challenging spots like Capo Mannu. And if one day I'll will touch the rocks no big drama as with a €5000 equipment
I have been following your channel for years now, admire your enthusiasm, have great respect for your entrepreneurship (and of course support it as a customer) and enjoy the windsurfing action on the channel. Keep up the good work and keep your spirit.
I know that feeling I used to sail a lot in the 90's on those old gunny boards and for the first time in years hired some nice modern windsurf equipment on holiday using a JP slalom board and Neil Pride sails and felt like a raw beginner. So different.. it took me a week to even begin feeling comfortable with it.
Hey there Mario, I use the boards when asking in Ireland. And I think two of them are way older than the one you got for €1. They are a Vinta 220 and Vinta 160. The 220 is very heavy. There is a yellow wind warning here in Ireland tomorrow so I hope to go out. I'll take the scales out and weigh them. I'd guess at about half a tonne!!! My fast board 🙈 is a Bombora that my brother brought back from Auz in the late 90's. My father bought the Vinta's in the UK in the early 90's and I'd safely say they were old even back then. But hey, I'm nearly 50 with a new hip and I love to sail. My kids are starting their careers at the minute (well they'll wait until the weather and water heats up). Anyway, I'd love to upgrade and try a modern board. Really enjoy your clips. Keep them coming, Rory.
I started on a vinta365 many years ago, that thing really did weigh a tonne!. Took quite a bit of wind to get it going properly but I still remember the first time I ever got planning on it. From that moment I was totally hooked..
Hi Mario, always nice to see how you and Nils support each other. The windsurf community is an important factor that brings me to the water. Even in these cold days or days where the wind is shit there is always someone to have a nice chat with and someone to help you if something breaks or if you forgot something. Keep making these great videos!
I really enjoy your channel. It always pushes me through my hard moments when I‘m not able to get on the water. Thank so much for it 😊 Therefore winning one of these boards would be an awesome motivation 🏄♂️
Using new sails on old boards need the mastbase as far back as possible. Modern sails are sailed much more upright and with center of pressure much more forward. The new sails allowed the boards to become shorter (they evolved together).
Hi. Klasse Video. Have fun🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 Marc
Been watching your videos since day one as windsurfing is so much fun remember the old days racing at the german competition always knew this guy is on a mission No matter if doing slalom or wave watching Marios Videos makes the heart rave sometimes a bit messy and sometimes poetic but allways sympathic no matter if living in a car or an attic for sure Mario is a windsurf fanatic Travelling around is his passion often delivering kind of confession always having a big smile after a session even if it comes with material crashen Wishing you all the best for the future(fly) keeping the quality of your videos high nice seeing you buying this one € treasure winning one of the boards would be a pleasure
Like your video. Just started with windsurfen this season but not having my own gear yet (using gear from the club). Nice to see what a €1 board can do.
It's fun to see these old equipment that made us dream in comparison to the new one.. but then it's not sure if the volume is equivalent for a real test/ comparison in those specific conditions. But it' s not that important .. it's a good topics too !!!
Hi Mario, what a nice comparison. I learned windsurfing on a much older board from father from 70s/80s. That was terrible, but a lot of fun 😂 Great to see what has a improved in round about 15/20 years on the Equipment and how different Windsurfing now is. Thanks for your Videos!
Kinetic, the brand that built the factory where your FF boards are produced ;-) Ah ah, very funny to watch. Keep in mind that many riders learned everything on this kind of boards. It wasn't as easy than now!
Great video, I learnt to windsurf in maybe '83 or '84 on a 22kg Bic. Later I convinced my dad we could share a Hifly 320. and then a while later I had a go on a friend's Sailboard 295, I thought I was sailing a jet fighter! Then in 90's I bought a Fanatic Ray 280, and it was considered sooooo small at the time. I think this board maybe similar size to your featured board. Now I can put an 8sqm on my Goya proton and go twice as fast, and so much easier to carve. Progress!
This one was a nice surprise. I had used slalom and wave boards in the nineties and they are still waiting in my shed. I dusted off my Mistral Edge 97 litre recently that is literally flying in high winds. It took me a while to get accostumed to modern slalom bords, but it was well worth the effort. Anyways, it’s still a great fun to take out the oldies every once in a while. Please trim the old-timer to see its full potential for another video!
Interesting video Mario. I windsurfed, including competitive racing, in the 1980s and 1990s. I stopped windsurfing around the year 2000. Recently, just before COVID, I started again and I am loving it! The newer boards are completely different with the wider, shorter shape, and they sail so nicely. I would say the top speed is actually not that different from the old gear, but the ease of sailing, earlier planing, carrying you through lulls and super easy carve gybes is the main difference. The short wide shape just feels like you are skimming on the tail. And the short nose also means that you are not terrified of burying the nose on a broad reach! If there are people out there with old gear looking to upgrade I would definitely recommend updating the board first, the older sails, even 20 years old, still work pretty well on the newer boards. I know this because most of my sails are from the early 2000s.
Weiter so! :) Hast einen Abonnenten mehr 🤙🏼
Hi @MarioKumpel! First things first: you are doing a very great job going international with the channel. I've never thought it will be such a breeze for you! I'm getting into Windsurfing again only for Wave Surfing. It would be a dream if I can grab one of the OG Boards 😂
The Winter is taking way to long really hope summer is coming soon 😢 Interesting that you’re riding with the free ride/race sails more often now And really interesting for me that so many people have boards laying around as I’ve only been surfing for 3 years now I sadly don’t have that 😂
Love the comparison having grown up using slalom boards in the 90es. Also what you mention, the feeling is maybe going from canoeing to a door but so much easier. Must say the older boards had something special with the speed feeling. Please do more like this, and yes would love a wave board to rip 👌
Great comparison of the two board. Started with same material just for money reasons, nowerdays a freerace is more state of the art. Looking forward to see more of it. Can imagine that the speed at flat water could be nearly same
Hi Mario Great and fun test. I remember how difficult it was to start windsurfing in the 90’ties. Now my kids are getting in to the sport, so much easier and we would love to win one of the boards. Kind regards from Denmark
Would love to be able to try wave-sailing some time. Anyways, thanks for your great videos.
This video just made my day! I have - among others - a Berky 9 footer, it is feather light and scary fast. I could live 200 years and will never gybe it, yet the thrill of that long slim shape is incredible. It's measurements are very similar to a Thommen 275. Great video, try to find another deal.
Hi Mario, This was your "Back in the future" session 😂 I have been windsurfing for more than 40 years and I experienced those long and narrow boards ... no regrets personally 😅 I now love my foiling days.
i bought a nice old school slalom board only last week the Starboard Isonic 135 Wood Version.. immaculate condition and still as light as a feather.. year 2007/8 came with a bag and Drake Fin all in £40 the old gear is the bong
Nice video, Mario! Any chances you find some classic boards to review? May be Nils have those legends like f2 Sputnik of Sunset Slalom or bic electric rock?
I can imagine how you are feeling after using such different boards. Last two years I was switching between a modern tabou rocket and an old-school Mistral screamer. But it was so much fun. I really enjoyed this video. Keep on surfin'.
I am a huge fan of windsurfing. I have been surfing all my life but I have never had the opportunity to ride the waves. Great video, especially since I did my first planning on my father's old board
Simply magic to see how boards and all the equipment has changed in the past few years and how better are improving. Big shoutout to you for the skills, would be amazing to see you and nils racing on old equipment👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤙
If you are really in for a shock, try a 1988 olympic board (“round bottom”). Very fast with little wind, but more than a handfull when the fun nowadays starts
Beautiful message behind the video. Two weeks ago an older man gave me his material and hopefully it works with it :) the lovely small storagesrooms are made for sharing.
I appreciate seeing a couple falls when on that old board, wondering how often that happens on the new board. I've recently taught myself the basics on 30 yr old equipment (spending only a few dollars on additional used sails) and am looking forward to having a go at this sport on new stuff you've helped me pick out from Wind Lounge.
It was a pleasure to discover your hidden treasures in the basement! Your decision to share these boards with others so that others can create memories, is commendable. That's how I got into windsurfing, because someone just gave me an old board they had lying around. Your passion makes your channel special, especially because you are uploaded during the cold and grey german winter.🌊❄#WindsurfingAdventures
I'm currently trying to learn how to forward loop on an old longish(235cm) board and it's pretty hard but I think i will get the hang of it.I really like the video and but I think in order to really compere the two boards you should tune the old one as you said.
Hey Mario! Absolutely loved the video! Im starting to teach windsurinf in different countries as a student job during summer. However its a dream to have my own gear one day! I would absolutely love both but the second wave just looks incredible!
I have two boards(slalom+freeride) and both bought second hand. They have been serving me well for the past 3 years, but maybe it is time to upgrade to a bit newer one once I increase skills. Keep up good work with the channel!
Thank you - one of the most interesting comparisons of windsurfing-equipment for me. I did start out on a 120 Liter ON-Board 295 full carbon shaped by Günther Lorch. Insanely light and stiff - felt very fast and was easy to control. The first step into the modern world was the 105 Fanatic Gecko - what a difference. But I always wondered: Are the new shapes truly faster (if the old ones would be used with modern fins and sails)? Another idea would be to try the new board with the old fins and sails - would the modern shapes even tolerate this shock? Now I am only using wave-eqipment. The Yellow-Fish would be a lovely addition of my quiver for ultra-lightwind-conditions...
Your channels is always very nice to watch at. Very nice comparison of the two boards. At our local spot, one of our friends is still riding this long, narrow type of boards and is happy with those, he does not like modern broad boards 🙂
Nice Video again! I really like that you said "Windsurfing does not need to be expensive." Because that is what a lot people especially they who are new to the sport dont know.

Those skinny long ones point real nice and go way faster than you would think in not such great wind. However, the new stuff rocks.
Have in mind the old board is a also a course race board.
Slalom boards for that time was used to go upwind as well.

Great video! ...and the sound of carbon hitting the water is so much better 😀
What a wholesome video! Fun idea to compare those two boards.
Great video Mario! As a Canadian I appreciate your dedication to cold water (although mine is now solid!)
Thank so much for it 😊
Therefore winning one of these boards would be an awesome motivation 🏄♂️
Using new sails on old boards need the mastbase as far back as possible. Modern sails are sailed much more upright and with center of pressure much more forward. The new sails allowed the boards to become shorter (they evolved together).
Hi.
Klasse Video. Have fun🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Marc
Nice idea with the 1€ board and insane how light it is. Me personal i would really love to Fly into the Future with a yellow fish 😁🤙
Been watching your videos since day one
as windsurfing is so much fun
remember the old days racing at the german competition
always knew this guy is on a mission
No matter if doing slalom or wave
watching Marios Videos makes the heart rave
sometimes a bit messy and sometimes poetic
but allways sympathic
no matter if living in a car or an attic
for sure Mario is a windsurf fanatic
Travelling around is his passion
often delivering kind of confession
always having a big smile after a session
even if it comes with material crashen
Wishing you all the best for the future(fly)
keeping the quality of your videos high
nice seeing you buying this one € treasure
winning one of the boards would be a pleasure
Such fun poetry !👍
Damn
😂😂😂@@birknicolai1071
Progress!
inspires me to get out my old f2 Sputnik 285.. looks very similar to kinetic, its hollow so maybe even lighter !
I've been part of the journey since 1991, and agree so much!
The yellow board looks really nice. 🎉
I am ready to change single for quad fin :D Nice to have your videos in this "winter" time
Interesting video Mario.
Great content Mario, thanks! I might dust off my first board (from 30+ years ago) and give it a blast in the summer
The Winter is taking way to long
really hope summer is coming soon 😢
Interesting that you’re riding with the free ride/race sails more often now
And really interesting for me that so many people have boards laying around as I’ve only been surfing for 3 years now I sadly don’t have that 😂
Love the comparison having grown up using slalom boards in the 90es. Also what you mention, the feeling is maybe going from canoeing to a door but so much easier. Must say the older boards had something special with the speed feeling. Please do more like this, and yes would love a wave board to rip 👌
That FutureFly Yellow Fish looks great - looking forward to seeing you use the old board with a modern fin -> that will be interesting
Moin Mario! 🎉
Great comparison of the two board. Started with same material just for money reasons, nowerdays a freerace is more state of the art.
Looking forward to see more of it. Can imagine that the speed at flat water could be nearly same
Hi Mario
Great and fun test. I remember how difficult it was to start windsurfing in the 90’ties. Now my kids are getting in to the sport, so much easier and we would love to win one of the boards.
Kind regards from Denmark
Entertaining video, I love the concept of comparing old and cheap with the latest technology gear!
Nice video! Would also love to see the comparison between a new and an old slalom sail !!!😅
Awesome channel. Glad it is in English. I am a windsurfer from Bulgaria living in LA for more than 25 years now. I love the content. Keep it coming. 🤙
Hi Mario, thank you for all these video about our passion and for your joy, it's a pleasure to see you. Peace from France
Mario... love your videos. hope a lot of people get inspired to start surfing again!
I am a huge fan of windsurfing. I have been surfing all my life but I have never had the opportunity to ride the waves. Great video, especially since I did my first planning on my father's old board
Fantastic video Mario my brother has a Kinetic it’s also very light and fast, great comparison of old and new 🤙
Thanks Mario for your uplifting content. Would love to ride one of those boards in my local break. Keep up the great work. Greetings from Bali
Simply magic to see how boards and all the equipment has changed in the past few years and how better are improving.
Big shoutout to you for the skills, would be amazing to see you and nils racing on old equipment👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤙
love the old stuff. Brings back lots of good memories. sailing those oldies requires a lot of switching of technique.
Old boards bring back great old memories 🤙🏻
Very good.I love to refresh the old boards…
Another great video. It reminds me of the gear I started on in the early 90s! The FF wave board looks super.
Always love these kind of test videos!
Great video. I myself always check for used equipment. Never thought that old boards would be so light. My 2021 freeride board is just sooo heavy.
As a long time windsurfer that was fun to watch. Great memories of the old gear. One of those wave boards would feel right at home in Canada 😆🇨🇦
I'm currently trying to learn how to forward loop on an old longish(235cm) board and it's pretty hard but I think i will get the hang of it.I really like the video and but I think in order to really compere the two boards you should tune the old one as you said.
Great video. I really like the content on winter surfing. I think it shows a realistic situation for 95% of windsurfers.
Super to see old gear tested !!
Great fun video, see if you can get hold of an old rig and see how that compares too 🤙
