- The 2019 Jetta will hit showrooms next month so take a look to see what's new! A full redesign for the Mark 7 is underpinned by VW's delightful MQB Platform that the Jetta now shares with the Atlas, Tiguan, and Golf models. The new Jetta feels spacious and comfortable with an interior punching above its weight class. My favorite new pieces of tech include the new 8 inch touch screen head unit working in tandem with the fully digital cluster (available on SEL trims); which now employs Volkswagen's new Digital Cockpit, a variation of Audi's virtual cockpit. Overall, the new Mark 7 2019 Jetta is impressive from all angles and constitutes a fantastic value for anyone looking into a compact sedan.
Additionally, I'd like to offer a HUGE thank you to Hall Imports of Brookfield, WI for making this review possible with this pre-production model!

You can find these 2019 Jettas in their inventory next month!

I just bought this car in dark grey color. I have the 6 speed manual transmission. Super fun to drive. Just passed 3500 miles and I average 35 mpg and get 41 on the highway CC at 65mph. No electrical issues or mechanical issues yet. So far I'm satisfied.
just purchased one and its an excellent car coming from a previous golf owner.I live in Canada so im looking forward to driving it in the winter.
The Trenton wheels look better than that crap! (Trenton wheels are the ones on the R-Line but optional on this variant.)
Do u Know Da Wae? 100% agree!
Thorough review. Excellent redo for Jetta. I have the 2018 VW Passat SEL, and for me, Volkswagen is a very good brand, and the best value in German quality - by far. The digitial cockpit almost obsoletes HUD, and I'd bet will be available in the redo of the Passat, which is almost every bit an Audi A4 for two-thirds the price. I've had 2 BMWs and two VWs, and I'd give German engineering a general subjective edge over Japanese vehicles which I've owned quite a few of, but Mazda and Honda are real close. I lived 55 years in Wisconsin, the past 18 in Tucson, AZ. I'd take Tucson for weather as Austin, Charlotte, and certainly VietNam all have excessive dew points/humidity, and less days of sunshine.
John Vandehey I just bought a 2018 Passat R Line myself. I wish I could have bought the SEL. Although I like the digital dash on the 19 the Passat just had the edge elsewhere.
I just picked up a 2019 Jetta S with the manual transmission and so far pretty amazing for the price. Very impressive list of standard features. Why are so few of the younger buyers just not interested in a manual driving experience? Just saying I feel you are very wrong about the manual. Go drive one that is broken in so you can floor it and I think you will realize how good that torque feels with manual behind it. Plus at $19k sticker it is the best value and I think one of the few manual transmissions available in the US at that price. Still great reaview video sir.
Pezz Pezzer well thanks for watching! I personally don't have an issue with manual. My fun car is a manual BMW e30
I have a 16 1.8T Jetta manual. Love that car. Hard decision to either get a 19, or keep my 16. I’ve never loved any car ( except my 59 ragtop bug) , more than this car. Guess I have to see a 19 in person.
My pride of the decade was a 91 318si that I knew one day would be sought after considering it has the same "feel" as the original e30 m3. I was right as after a daily driver for 15 years - it went to a collector for $600 less than i paid for it. Never under estimate 4 cylinders
RickEtsuko hell yeah Rick!
Got the S also. Wanted a manual. Everyone looking used wants manuals also. More fun to drive. More control over the car. Hold up a lot better than an automatic and no 40k oil changes like in the auto.
Nice review! Austin,TX. I’m in the DFW area but it’s great down here in Texas! Moved here from the cold north as well (South Dakota)
Prime Autotainment I've been to Dallas and I loved it!
hey i'm currently driving 2018 honda cr-v, but thinking of switching to 2018 cx-5 or tiguan. any thoughts? what would you choose between those three? I'm thinking of driving over 5 years and have a bit worry about high maintenance fees of vw
as someone who lives in Texas believe me I love it, but if I were to move I'd consider Phoenix, it's a great city with lots scenery & lower housing cost than Texas cities.
I have a 2019 Jetta gli autobahn and it’s crazy how they put features on here that they could have easily put on the autobahn and chose not to, to save money
Just got mine in white. Love it so far. Especially the ambient lighting interior.
Austin, Texas lots to do and warm weather most of the year. Only cons is the traffic
Carlos Leal Austin is also the number 1 place to live in the US right now according to a study I just saw. Plus I wouldn't have to have a winter beater...hmmmm looks good! 😎
Downshift MKE wrong. Ann Arbor was named the best place to live. My hometown
Cameron Clark hahaha! East Lansing😜
according to marcel tansie, it must be pronounced OW-stin
Lopaka Volmer chiillllll🤣
That is a 17” wheel...not 16”.
WILL SOMEONE TEACH THIS GUY HOW TO SAY AUDI?
"Oddy" lmfao
Has grown on me a lot. Can’t wait to see the GLI. Hope they do it right!
The base model is available with a manual transmission
Well...base model has the worst sound system like an old transistor radio but oooh so fun to drive. Fake exhaust, whatever. Funky sound when accelerates from 20 to 30mph...it will most likely be recalled to be removed. Even happened on my similiar rental. Nice warranty. Where did the upper storage go? No 2nd volt plug in. Only 1 USB port. :( Quiet tight ride. The stop light engine reduction for gas savings is new for the base model as is the blind spot alert and auto light setting.
Overall, gets me over the hill with turbo and that's exactly what I wanted.
So can Auto Start Stop be permanently disabled ? I hate that shit.
I was looking into buying one of these, but ended up buying a 2018 Passat. I like the dash setup and the digital dash, but the Passat had the edge everywhere else.
The Dude well that's just like, your opinion man 🤣 hahaha the dude abides
The Dude thanks for watching and commenting!
Is it mandated you have to use music like that in a you tube video any more?
Music has to be royalty free
Would be better to have none 😁
When i did a test drive i pointed out the fake exhaust ports to the salesman and said WHY!! he replied the younger generation like the look, but it not functional.
The opening pose is dope AF
CampingShadowComplex 🤣
You should only do car reviews if you know cars. There is a lot of inaccurate information in this vid even in the voiceover.
Is my newer stuff better? This was pretty early in the channel
From the back it looks like a Skoda Kodiaq. Skoda concept adopted on a vw.
Charlotte, N.C. it’s up and coming economy is booming and it’s warm most of the year!
TheDrewster01 that's what I'm leaning toward too haha
Asheville NC - just learn the history and the health benefits and you will live no place else!!!
UPDATED AS THE LIST KEEPS GROWING -- Why I prefer my 2017 Jetta SEL over the 2019 (based on reviewer / driver comments / reports):
• more engine choices for 2017, mine has the 1.8 L engine
• Independent rear suspension with 2017 gone for 2019 (back to torsion beam)
• True exhaust outlets for 2017 vs. Fake exhaust outlets with 2019
• Adjustable center arm rest with 2017 gone for 2019
• Height adjustment for front passenger seat gone for 2019
• Adjustable rear headrests gone with 2019
• Rear deck more glare resistant; glare reports for 2019
• Damped glove box with inner upper shelf gone for 2019
• Engine shutoff when stopping with 2019, air turns off etc., (does have an off switch)
* Solid moon roof slide cover for 2017 gone for 2019 (flimsy cloth material)
* A Pillar material covering gone for 2019 (solid plastic)
• more touch screen functions / interface with 2019 reportedly results in unwanted connections when bumped
* 2019 Seating is very bench like, some reports it was less comfy
* trunk pass-thru behind rear arm rest gone with 2019
* 2019 center console intrudes on drivers right knee room
* 2019 eight speed transmission gets a bit confused /sloppy (could be a break-in issue)
* And, trunk lid fully opens with 2017 vs. needing further lifting with 2019
In all fairness I have not driven the 2019 so these comments if they are all accurate may not be important for some new buyers. More soft touch surfaces on 2019 front doors, and MQB platform may provide a better and more quiet ride experience, etc.
Those are 17” rims not 16” dear God of correct info 😂
Just got mine. Nice!
I just read that in Canada, we can get the manual transmission in all trim levels. Bonus. R Line coming at ya!
Christopher Douglas that's awesome!
No rear air vents on any trim level is kinda annoying.
Man those fake exhaust outlets are super cheesy. Come on VW, you can do better. Overall, good car.
Christopher Douglas I agree. I see the industry trend is to move toward more attractive exhaust ports but I would prefer they try to make it more feasibly real. You're right though, overall great car! The first Jetta I've been excited about in a decade. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You know what? Nobody's even going to know unless you tell them.
Direct Injection engines turn the exhaust black, so most manufacturers are trying to hide that.
GLI has twin real exhaust tips!
Lol probs won’t see this since it’s been a year but if u move to Vietnam you’ll love it I’m Vietnamese
John B I see your comment! I’ve always wanted to visit Vietnam!
Downshift I can’t believe you saw my comment Vietnam is such a nice place to live everyone is so nice and the food is amazing😂
John B I’ve heard the scenery is gorgeous too!
Great review.... come to Lafayette, La..
Mindy G thanks for watching Mindy! I'm not sure if I could handle the humidity of Louisiana hahah
This car does not have an Independent Rear Suspension but has the cheaper Torsion Beam...perhaps the future GLI model will get the more sophisticated IRS...lots of hard plastic bits in the car and especially for the rear passengers...VW has to save money somewhere to pay cor Dieselgate...
It sure does!
You stated that the 2019 Jetta GLI will have the same 2.0 engine 220 HP 258 ft. lb of torque as the current GTI. How do you know that it won't be the same engine in the current 2018 Jetta GLI that is the 2.0 with 210 HP and 207 ft. lb of torque? Did your source have real inside information or are you guessing?
Jerry Harrison it's speculation but the 220hp is the GTI "competition pack" or whatever they call it. The GLI is typically just a body style variation of the GTI which is why I suspect it will be the same. Whether the GLI comes with the comp pack 220hp I'm not sure but we can hope! Thanks for watching!
Downshift MKE WOW, that is the fastest reply that I have experienced on RUclips, to date. Thanks. Still dizzy from the head spinning! 👍
Jerry Harrison hahaha well despite being quick I hope the info was helpful. I'll see ya in the comments again!
How about Arizona
It has a 1.4 turbo just so you know.
Awesome!
Come to Charleston South Carolina!
Why are the lights always flashing?
The frequency of the diodes doesn't quite match up with the shutter speed on my camera. You'll see that on some of the little older episodes of top gear too. It's not an issue with the car it's just how the camera picks them up
nice car terrible rims
have you heard of aftermarket rims?
But the...wheels... are nice.
Trinidad and Tobago
Charlotte, NC.
Shaun of NYC
Hope your in Austin, Texas
Still in Wisconsin 😭
Kinda want this to replace my fusion. Are vw good cars?
Cameron Clark thanks for watching Cameron! I've grown up with VW and I like them. They're a bit better in terms of build quality but you will pay a little more for it. What things are most important to you in a car?
Downshift MKE safety reliability and drive performance
Cameron Clark safety suite is great on this (even better on a Tiguan) driving performance I'll be honest isn't the most energetic but not much else in the segment is, and reliability is above average but won't be as good as a Civic or Corolla. Let me know of there's anything else I can answer for you! The Mazda3 is one of the more sporty selections amongst the competition with good reliability. Not sure on safety technology but airbags and all that good stuff checks out
Downshift MKE yea I’m for sure in the market for a car. Honestly don’t need a sporty still car. I jus like some thing that is safe and is a nice smooth ride. Also worried about the Long Jevity of the car.
Cameron Clark this Jetta has a great ride and a good amount of features. Also as long as you're keeping up with maintenance it'll run forever! One of my cars is a 2008 VW Passat which is up around 120,000 miles and I've had no real issues with
I wish it looked more sporty and chiseled like the gti. The shape of this redesign looks too plain, vanilla, blandi lile the taillights. But, im not a fan of the headlight or grille at all. It just looks way too basic. They should take a pags from Toyota and develope a more sporty design like the corolla sedan and hatch. Or, tbey should bring the design of the vw scirocco to this jetta and make turn it bacl into the car every teen and young adult wants to own. Hopefully, they start offerinh 4 door coupes to offer sporty options as well. Lile, maybe a baby arteon, 4 seried gran cpupe competitor, etc.
Shane h I would LOVE to see the Scirroco offered here in the States or to see the Jetta take some styling cues from it. It's not the most interesting car to look at but it hasn't been for quite a while so I'm not super surprised. Of course that's just my opinion but I agree with you. Thanks for watching!
Why are Canadians or northerners so oppressed with the Jetta?
North carolina
Auston Texas
It is not a naturally aspirated engine. It's a 1.4 turbo.
David Harris oops misspoke that's my bad!
Downshift MKE, it happens!
David Harris well thanks for watching David and good catch!
It’s pronounced a-ou-di “Audi” not awe-di. Nice review
Marcel Tansie hahaha I won't lie to you I said it the lazy American way in this review because I thought everyone would call me a snob for saying it the right way. Im shooting an R8 this weekend and I'll say it right for that video. Thanks just for watching!
Lopaka Volmer 🤣
'lazy American way'? so being a snob is bad but being a jerk is more than ok to you. good to know.
I'm sorry if I offended you, I was just joking around
Austin, TX
Very good review. Great car for the price.
North Carolina
Lmao Vietnam is so different than the other two choice. Of the two American ones I would choose Charlotte, but Vietnam is cool, just completely different lol.
Connor Olivardia hahaha I've always wanted to go to Vietnam I hear it's beautiful there though I don't think I'd actually live there. Charlotte is my front runner
hot af and big hands. emmm :-o
Austin texas
Do all the trims have the digital cockpit and the navigation in it ?
Marwin k.mathew S and SE trims will not come with the digital cockpit. However you can get NAV on SE trims! Thanks for watching!
STAY WHERE YOU ARE.
'Nam
Daniel Mulcahy I do want to go hahha
Austin
The front of the car looks awesome!
Just not a big fan of the rear anyone agree?
Unreliable. I bought it two months ago. Already the panel broke off and had to have it repaired. The brakes make this awful sound which the dealership said is normal. Maybe for a 10 year old car it is. I'll post a video of the sound later.
And for all you new owners, there's a recall already with a "sealant.". Guess water leaks in. 3 dealership trips in less than 2 months what a mistake :(
“Gooooooooodddd Marning Vietnam”🇻🇳
Bobby Dukes hah!🤣
they fucked up alloys
Down 30 hp from the previous generation and no stick. 👎🏻
They do have stick.
N.C.
I would have sent you $10 to wash the car before your review!
TRAIN CLIPS by Stuart Macadam yeah I can't blame you for that. This is just how it was when I went to pick it up. As a preproduction vehicle I didn't ask questions
Viet nam
huynh chuong another for Nam👍
Just mute this song while you are speaking
Zzzzz...zzz...zz...z
Lol there's nothing Audi about this. A terribly cheap interior and terrible exterior.
