incorrect VERY incorrect and science even says esports is a real sports your just behind your time ignorant and biased and full of shit just like most washed boomers
You can consider a scooter a transportation tool but not a car.it's like if you're saying that golf uses a ball, so that makes it like football.same thing for esports.
traditional sports & esports what they have in common: involve strategy - Has Coaches Hand-Eye Coordination Has Spectators Big Prize Pools (depending on the game/sport) Has Sponsors Mental Toughness Anyone can play but hard to master
There was a time where rock musicians thought hip hop wasn't "real" music and were just as dismissive. Live long enough and esports will take over "real" sports. All the risks potential injuries, decline of television viewership and general disinterest from the youth it's only a matter of time.
Decline viewership? European football is the most improving sport of all even esports, when it comes to viewers, money and attendance. Cool you like gaming, but taking over traditional sport is kinda biased to say, UFC and europaen football is stronger than ever. ;D
Trying to compare esports to sports is like trying to convince the world that a pear is an apple when really it's a pear trying to be a pear. Let the pear be a pear and the apple be an apple.
To any athlete it is almost disrespectful to compare an esport player to them, not to say the skill isnt required for either, but normal sports take a different type of conditioning, practice, and overall physical dedication . Where as esports takes same or even more practice BUT its not as physically tasking . In all it seems stupid to compare
idiot famous atheletes like rick fox even reconize esports as a real sports your just behind your time ignorant and biased and full of shit just like all the other washed boomers
Esports take the same realm as sport as in how scenes tournaments salaries and success is based but the main difference is physical exertion. Yes a player is going to be tired after a BO5 on LAN or whatever. But it's more if a mental drain it doesnt have to do with putting the body in the line. Sports are defined by the exercise or physicality of an activity. If you take the aspect of physicality away from things being a sport then things like performing arts become a sport. Esports are their own thing and while I do believe they cater to the same audiences and can fill the same role in entertainment they arent interchangeable.
"Esports" is just a marketing brand for video games companies to increase game sales by introducing competition for the games. There is a definition of what sport is and video games are not. Poker also requires huge skill (mathematics, psychology), has vast competition and money rewards. But it is a game not a sport. I will not call "ahtlete" a kid sitting 10 hours a day in front of a computer eating pizza. The term "esports" is just marketing

I think anything that can have crowds of people supporting teams competing could be considered a sport. The lines are only gonna be more blurred when vr and motion controls become more mainstream
There is no way Esport should be associated with actual sports. It's not real, you don't have any physical consequences for your actions. It is a skill, but it's 99% mental.
I disagree with this. Many esports pros suffer from physical consequences such as carpel tunnel syndrome, eye strain issues, and arm and back pain. Thats why many pro teams now have physiologists to help the players. its more like 60 - 40 from mental to physical percentage. Theres a reason only very few become pro gamers
Literary Shit Not really, Racing and even Billiards are considered a sport and they dont really require a lot of physical exertion and in some countrys Esports are already considered a real sport
@@junux7465 The definition of sport is "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment." just because some things are considered a sport by some doesn't mean it is and racing is arguable if it has physical exertion or not depending on which it is.
Konstantin Savin you need physical extortion for anything to be considered a sport. Chess is 100% mental, 0% physical. Doing math is 100% mental, 0% physical. Math isn’t a sport and neither is chess
How about wind, sunshine, drops of sweat on the ground that you might slip on etc.. These factors are kind of RNG in traditional sports (you cannot control them).
Funny how most of the real athletes agree that it is a sport because they know the real aspects of sport is played through the mind. Funny how media analysts and highschool was my gloryday jocks are the ones who critically debate against it.
Some people practice 10 hours a day. Playing all day can seriously hurt and permanently damage your body over time. Blindness from eye strain Arthritis Major back problems (over time) Etc. So I think people just say it's not a sport because they aren't usto it yet. Its still a newer thing, but if NASCAR is a sport so is E sports.
Blindness from eye strain!!! ;D Major back problems! ;D omg so a pro gamer got the same injuries as a child or an old senior. well yea let's support it then.
I see eSports being in the same category as Chess. It takes a lot of skill to win, but there isnt really much physical movement. Obviously gaming has more movement than chess but not enough to compare to basketball for example
Chess is considered an Olympic sport. And with all do respect, i believe that gaming on the pro level is just like playing chess. Quick thinking and strategy development are key in any sport, esports is no different.

Transparent Eclipse you actually exert some physical force when playing a real sport. Video games is just moving your fingers from a physical standpoint. Is scrolling through Instagram a sport? No
VanV the difference is scrolling through Instagram takes no focus, skill, dedication, nothing, it’s literally the most brainless activity u can do on a mobile device, and anyone can do it. And there’s no such thing as being good at scrolling through Instagram. There is however such thing as being good at a video game. I understand why u would think physical exertion is required in a sport, but it isn’t. U are going by the literal definition of sport, when I don’t think that definition applies. I think all something takes to qualify as a sport is a competition between two people or teams involving skill, talent, and dedication to the game, in which they compete for some prize or advancement for others entertainment. Bc as there are such things as physical sports, such as football, basketball, etc, I consider there to be such things as mental sports as well, such as video games, chess, etc. If u choose not to consider mental sports as sports, fine, it has no impact on me, but I do as the only difference between the two is the physicality.
@@philippemane2001 Racing is still a skill based sport. Being fit is not an absolute necessity, there are people who can race without a problem by doing the same amount of fitness as a csgo player.
MetallicRain In esports you can be at the top without being really fit. Not like racing where the top racers are under great heat in their cars so they really dehydrated. But it is true that some types of racing doesn't required like drag races but they don't bring the kind of money esport brings. So i think a fair comparaison is formula e which is a growing champions like esports and you absulotely need to be in shape or you will slow the car enough to be in the back of the greed
As a pro nerd who is playing games since I was 5, now am 23 I say hell no it's not, lookup the meaning of the word sport and athlete, esports is esports am sure u can see the e it's not there by accident
I don’t know that I’d go so far as to say esports are sports in the same way that say football is a sport, but they do require a lot of the same skills as traditional sports do, just not as much of the physicality. I used to see the same debate as to whether auto racing should be considered a sport since a lot of people just see it as someone sitting in a seat and driving around in circles (or any type of course) for however many laps, and don’t think of how much those drivers are having to focus on their surroundings and constantly think of when they need to try to pass or when it’s best to hang back a little, and all the other factors they have to pay attention to. I think the same can be said about esports, yeah they may not be up running around, but they’re constantly thinking of what they should do next. Not to mention the time and skill it takes to get to the level to be able to compete with top pros, much like it takes for athletes to be able to compete at the top of their sport. I just want esports to be respected as much as traditional sports even if they’re not thought of the same. Like I don’t want it to be thought of as dumb that they’re showing an Overwatch match on ESPN. And how cool would it be for the pros in these games with International Championships like LoL, Dota, etc who are representing their nations to be praised by mainstream media as much as the Olympic athletes doing the same? Sorry for the novel lol

Yes Esports is a sport. It's not a physical sport but it is a sport you know it's a mental sport because you're playing it in the digital space. That's why the team I used to follow optic had a gym sponsor and the team would hit the gym so that way their physical attributes balanced out the mental attributes
I wouldn't consider it a sport by it's very definition. But that doesn't mean you dont have to put an extensive amount of time and have incredible skills for it..I dont get it..nobody fights over if chess is a sport( maybe they do) but by its definition you need to have physical exertion
Mastering eye-to-hand coordination is a broadly underrated skill that comes with being a pro on any game. Therefore there is indeed some physicality involved.

Reminds me of the debate about whether or not powerlifting counts as a sport. It is almost like the complete opposite of cs:go as a sport in that it is all physical but almost no mental. Power lifting doesn't require reaction time at all and it is skillish but not particularly as the movements are very simple. However on the physical side it is at like 100 percent yet still some say it is not a sport. Obviously its just words are categories are limited. My honest opinion is that a sport needs to be full body and in real 3D space so no esports are more like a game like pool or darts but IMO way better. One thing that annoys me is when people call Poker a sport that is just ridiculous since coordination and reaction time NOT factors what so ever.
I'm like half and half with it I can see skips point coming from playing sports. But if you also think about it Poker is technically a sport its always on Fox or ESPN and they dont use any physical activity other than mind.
True I dont disagree at times I cringe when they consider gaming a sport or pros "athletes" just considering all factors. I guess I'm fine with it being an "e-sport" but not a sport.
If playing video games is a sport then basically everything is a sport. Reality tv is a sport because it’s entertaining and a lot of times they have competitions. Got it.
Bowling, Darts, Pool all skill games not defined as sports. Pure technique, knowledge, mental skill, execution. Those are all games just like video games. Competitive at the highest level but a Game of Skill is not a Sport. Person Vs Person in a Physical Game = Sport
definition of sport, an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Does esports involve physical exertion? yes all pros are fit, someone 400 lbs would never set records in something like bhop or rhythm games. it's even possible to get injuries like rsi. Does it involve skill? Obviously yes, far more then any physical sport. a mind game such as chess is so unfathomable that they lose weight in a day by thought alone.
If you define "sports" as requiring full-body athleticism, you just told every para athlete missing a limb that they're not really "athletes". Or that any sport that focuses on one or limited body parts (arm wrestling), is also not a sport.
If someone says poker is a sport tgey should consider esports as a sport. Likewise as poker isnt a sport esports isnt a sport.Imo i think esports isnt a sport as i dont think snooker ans poker should be considered as sports
@@lucky0h732 I think the "difference" you listed is only an issue of context. Normal Chess meetup sessions can be really chill as well, as for video games, I'm literally trembling after I win a 1v2 clutch in Apex and I can't imagine how much more nervous I will be if I am doing it at a LAN event. My point is, competition in video games has as much legitimacy as both sports and other games such as poker and chess, it not being a sports doesn't reduce it's legitimacy. There is no need for any pressure for video games to be viewed as a sport since video games is its seperate category
@@lucky0h732 in addition, the line between traditional games and video games are kinda blurry. Say, if you go online to play chess, does it count as a video game? If the rules are modified (such as 5d chess, a variant of chess), how much will the rules have to be modified in order for it to not count as a traditional game but a video game? Trying to compare esports to sports is like trying to convince the world that a pear is an apple when really it's a pear trying to be a pear. Let the pear be a pear and the apple be an apple.
To any athlete it is almost disrespectful to compare an esport player to them, not to say the skill isnt required for either, but normal sports take a different type of conditioning, practice, and overall physical dedication . Where as esports takes same or even more practice BUT its not as physically tasking . In all it seems stupid to compare
Yea, chess and pool take a lot of physical training...
idiot famous atheletes like rick fox even reconize esports as a real sports your just behind your time ignorant and biased and full of shit just like all the other washed boomers
More people watch eSports than the Superbowl
"Esports" is just a marketing brand for video games companies to increase game sales by introducing competition for the games. There is a definition of what sport is and video games are not. Poker also requires huge skill (mathematics, psychology), has vast competition and money rewards. But it is a game not a sport.

Transparent Eclipse not a sport
VanV k bruh, I will have to disagree, but everyone is entitled to their opinion
As long as racing, golf and curling are considered sports, there is no argument: esports ARE real sports!
MetallicRain racing is a bad exemple because you actully need to be fit to race the cars to their limits like in f1 due to the forces onto the drivers

yes because it takes skill hand eye cordination perfect realease time steady hands i see gamers with unsteady hands that win

My point is, competition in video games has as much legitimacy as both sports and other games such as poker and chess, it not being a sports doesn't reduce it's legitimacy. There is no need for any pressure for video games to be viewed as a sport since video games is its seperate category
