Sports are sports, esports are esports. I don’t think they can be compared 1:1 not all video games can be an esport.
I think esports are much more in line with golf, chess, pool, poker, etc.
These are all activities that require immense practice, time, skill, and all of these can be played casually or competitively.
I’d rather have esports be their own category that stands next to sports. It is earning its right to be taken seriously and I don’t think it should be watered down with comparisons to outside factors.
I’ll end with this idea as an example: playing CS with a 5 man of friends is not an esport. But mastering the team element and becoming not only great individually but as a unit on the big stage is a far greater feat.

    Media
    Viewership based revenue
    Entertainment
    Mastery of Skill
    Prize pools
    Tournaments
    Championships
    Rankings
    Player stats
The only difference between "sports" and eSports remains that eSports are more dynamic. Eg: you can change the meta for CS by updating the price of a gun but you can't change how a checkmate works out in chess.

We as a gaming community should not want to esports to be considered real “sport”. We created our own scene so we shouldn’t be begging for traditional media to like us. For example all of these traditional sports are losing viewers because they have gotten boring. Most people don’t even watch tv. Also everyone knows the teams with the most money are usually the ones that win. It gets boring, we shouldn’t care that traditional media doesn’t want us to to be named as a sport we shouldn’t beg them for attention. We are a community that was created from the internet while the traditional media still make fun of esports they don’t see that we are thriving. So we should stop trying to beg them for attention.

NFL or college football will forever rule the sports world so get that straight. 2.) there are salary caps involved to avoid the teams with the most money winning everything 3.) y’all ain’t thriving. NFL actualy went out and got streamers like timthetatman to stream their games since no one watches tv. and you say gaming isnt a real job? what about streamers, you tubers , and pro players. GAMING is a real job now and there is always time to game you are just not using most of your brain that can comprehend how big gaming is. you say that as adults there wont be any time to game but there is time to watch sports for 3 hours ?? wow we should all just stop gaming and watch any sport that NOTHING changes and have a chance to kill each other or severely injure themselves now inst that fun!

      @art-sw1de 4 года назад +1

Cruzaii The patriots don’t get any big name players. You said aka the patriots when saying they have the most influence and money so they get the best players but they literally don’t get any big names so that point is completely wrong on your part. Next, my point about gaming is as I have grown up I play video games less because I have things to do. I’m 18, I’m in school and I already have things going on, but when I was doing school and work at the same time I literally had no time to play video games. My point being as we grow up and actually gain responsibility and realize what’s important the less and less for MOST people find video games important. Yes I understand there’s a small portion of gamers who make it their job but for 95% of gamers it’s not a job and we focus on other things as we get older.

Esports take the same realm as sport as in how scenes tournaments salaries and success is based but the main difference is physical exertion. Yes a player is going to be tired after a BO5 on LAN or whatever. But it's more if a mental drain it doesnt have to do with putting the body in the line. Sports are defined by the exercise or physicality of an activity. If you take the aspect of physicality away from things being a sport then things like performing arts become a sport. Esports are their own thing and while I do believe they cater to the same audiences and can fill the same role in entertainment they arent interchangeable.

VanV the difference is scrolling through Instagram takes no focus, skill, dedication, nothing, it’s literally the most brainless activity u can do on a mobile device, and anyone can do it. And there’s no such thing as being good at scrolling through Instagram. There is however such thing as being good at a video game. I understand why u would think physical exertion is required in a sport, but it isn’t. U are going by the literal definition of sport, when I don’t think that definition applies. I think all something takes to qualify as a sport is a competition between two people or teams involving skill, talent, and dedication to the game, in which they compete for some prize or advancement for others entertainment. Bc as there are such things as physical sports, such as football, basketball, etc, I consider there to be such things as mental sports as well, such as video games, chess, etc. If u choose not to consider mental sports as sports, fine, it has no impact on me, but I do as the only difference between the two is the physicality.

I don’t know that I’d go so far as to say esports are sports in the same way that say football is a sport, but they do require a lot of the same skills as traditional sports do, just not as much of the physicality. I used to see the same debate as to whether auto racing should be considered a sport since a lot of people just see it as someone sitting in a seat and driving around in circles (or any type of course) for however many laps, and don’t think of how much those drivers are having to focus on their surroundings and constantly think of when they need to try to pass or when it’s best to hang back a little, and all the other factors they have to pay attention to. I think the same can be said about esports, yeah they may not be up running around, but they’re constantly thinking of what they should do next. Not to mention the time and skill it takes to get to the level to be able to compete with top pros, much like it takes for athletes to be able to compete at the top of their sport. I just want esports to be respected as much as traditional sports even if they’re not thought of the same. Like I don’t want it to be thought of as dumb that they’re showing an Overwatch match on ESPN. And how cool would it be for the pros in these games with International Championships like LoL, Dota, etc who are representing their nations to be praised by mainstream media as much as the Olympic athletes doing the same? Sorry for the novel lol

Power lifting doesn't require reaction time at all and it is skillish but not particularly as the movements are very simple. However on the physical side it is at like 100 percent yet still some say it is not a sport. Obviously its just words are categories are limited. My honest opinion is that a sport needs to be full body and in real 3D space so no esports are more like a game like pool or darts but IMO way better. One thing that annoys me is when people call Poker a sport that is just ridiculous since coordination and reaction time NOT factors what so ever.
