      His stands on the murderous regime of the shah being better than the murderous regime of the mullahs was truly aweful. It's so unfortunate that some folks keep grasping for a facade that is nostalgia for the past instead of moving forward and plea for true democracy and freedom. There is literally NO room for monarchy in the POLITICAL realm. Why does he even care?? It's done and over with, get over it. He's a Pahlavist as Reza said, I have no respect for that political affiliation one bit, it truly shows a stunt in your political understanding and development and honestly makes me doubt the intelligence of anyone who still fights for the reputation/legitimacy of a monarchy in this day and age.

The other countries in the world are the teachers who are concerned about the student's behavior and want to make sure that he is not cheating in the future. To ensure that the student(Iran) is not cheating, the teachers agrees to give the student a series of extra assignments and to watch him closely while he completes the assignments. In return, the teachers agrees to give the student a good grade, not to punish him for past misbehavior, and to give him some extra money.
      This is similar to the way that the Iran nuclear deal worked, with the international community imposing restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions and the release of Iranian funds that had been frozen overseas.. ::PBD:: believes giving money to the parent (government) is not the way to solve the problem cause he argue the parent are corrupt and they dont care for their kid..... ::REZA:: argues that there are reliable systems in place that will make sure the parent will give the money to the student (government to the people)..but they both agree that are no safe way to give the money directly to the student -- TEACHERS(USA) STUDENT(IRAN PEOPLE)

      Patrick missed the point that Reza was making about stimulating the Iranian economy and how that would help the Iranian people. This would empower the people of Iran to push for change. @@DanReh thank you for your insight. I saw that too. But my interpretation of what Pat was saying is that he wanted to know how the money would get into the hands of the people. Because what it sounds like is, it has to go through the corruption of the Iranian regime and the money would not go to the people.
      That’s just my take on this conversation (video clip). I am definitely not educated on the history of politics in these countries. 😊

    • @DanReh
      @DanReh Год назад +10

      @@Candice-Tara The strategy in Afghanistan was invasion through military force. We are not talking about military invasion here. So, it’s not the same strategy as Afghanistan. And Afghanistan was a disaster on many levels but I digress.
      What Reza is doing in this video is defending the JCPOA, which is the Iran Nuclear Deal under the Obama administration. Reza argues that removing sanctions from Iran is a good idea because it allows for policies that lead to the economic liberalization of Iran.
      I’ll give you a quick example. One of the items that is currently banned under the sanctions on Iran are carpets. So, if you are a carpet maker in Iran, you cannot sell your carpets internationally. You are cut off from the international market place. All sanctions do is hurt the Iranian people, not the government. The government is able to make money though black markets. Now the government is more powerful and the people are less powerful. It’s become almost impossible for Iranians to rise up against the government. Reza makes the point that 45 years of sanctions has made the people poor and the government rich. The policy of blanket sanctioning Iran doesn’t work.
      Removing sanctions gives the Iranian people access to the international market place, which leads to economic liberalization. The Iranian people start becoming powerful because they are making money and gaining capital.
      Patrick keeps arguing the money doesn’t go to the people. But it’s does, through these economic policies. However, these same policies also benefit the Iranian government. Patrick is completely blinded by his hate of the Iranian regime and he doesn’t see the big picture. He is complete caught up in the 150 billion dollars (which is part of the JCPOA deal, and is money that belongs to Iran anyways) going to the Iranian regime. He just doesn't seem to understand that Iran would have to pursue economic policies that would benefit the Iranian people. His "brilliant" idea having the US government stage a coup. This is nuts and will get a lot of innocent people killed.

      I agree 100% ... we just got back from visiting Iran. From speaking to common people of different backgrounds, I feel the people would be a lot happier and self-sufficient if they had access to the free market. Regardless of the government, people just want to live. America does not care about THE PEOPLE, the sanctions are hurting THE PEOPLE. With America, it's always about self-interests.

      The subtext is that Reza had collaborated with a terrorist organization. He did take blood money and did support policies that strengthen this regime but was expertly deflecting from the darker results of his actions and expertly framed each question so that his stance look reasonable.
      For example, Reza worked for the propaganda arm of the Iranian government, but we shouldn't view it as supporting terrorists, bc he works for a lot of ppl as an expert on religion... Get it? Doing PR for terrorists is all right if you have a Ph.D.!

      The army of the state is a terrorist organization! Obviously the army serves the regime!
      Reza Aslan worked for NIAC, a propaganda organization of the same terrorist regime!
      He is a collaborator, he did helped the regime to get some 150 miliard $s... maaaaaaybe he was naiv! But he is Iranian, he must have known what kind of ppl he is promoting!
      And these guys are leaning in hard into the comic book super villain role! Look up #WomenLifeFreedom! Absolutelly disgusting how the regime treats the ppl of Iran! Whatever atrocities you can imagine armed forces can commit against civilians multiply it by a hundred. I mean an 8 year old child was shot dead on the street for chanting protest slogans! Raping teenagers before execution, burning political prisoners, shelling cities, just the last few months!
      And ofc they are selling drones to russia, they are sponsoring anti US, anti Isrrael terrorists, and try to be a pain in everybodies ass. All in the name of Islam, while the actual elite lives luxuriously in the west!
