This past summer my husband and I were four-wheeling in a very remote area. We came across a memorial for someone who had obviously died. I had the immediate urge to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for this soul. I took out my phone that had a Divine Mercy app and prayed the chaplet naming the person whose name was inscribed in the memorial. Later that evening when we were back home our house alarm kept going off for no reason! It had never happened before - but I knew why! The soul I had prayed for earlier that day had been released from Purgatory and was letting us know he made it to Heaven!!! My own faith in God’s promise of saving a forgotten soul in purgatory released him! I was so excited to say the least! 🙏🙏.
Suzette, what an uplifting story. My dad passed away in 2011, and because of logistics, I couldn’t be there with him, but my wife was. She told me that shortly before he died, he started talking with someone only he could see. He passed at about 6:20 am, and she called me a few minutes later to let me know. I got up, and as I was sitting in the kitchen with my dog and a cup of coffee, all the smoke alarms in the house started going off simultaneously. I looked all around for fire somewhere in the house, but of course there wasn’t anything. Then it hit me that he was saying goodbye. Just a comforting moment I’ll always cherish.

Hi Terri, This is a wonderful prayer to St Gertrude, and it’s consoling, not just to the souls in purgatory but to us who pray it too, knowing that we can help them, and for the love of them and the Lord. As you say, if everyone says this prayer every day, purgatory would soon empty!
By adopting a soul, are we to name a specific soul? Else how will we know who we are praying for, and would we not end up praying for someone new each time?

@L A ok so you don't call your own father father, which is part of the 10 commandments anyway. Secondly the name of purgatory is not stated but it is implicitly described. The rapture isn't in the bible, the word Trinity isn't in the bible. The word bible isn't in the bible. Nor is the word new testament or old testament. So please be careful what you state. By the way, in eastern rites priests can be married. Your information has misconceptions
@L A The Holy Rosary is far from ‘vain repetition’ - it is rich meditation upon the life of Our Lord, in which Our Blessed Mother always points us into an ever more closer relationship with her Divine Son.
It was ingrained into me since I was little and in Catholic school to genuflect, not bow. Bow only if you’re unable to genuflect. Also as an American the only person I kneel before is God. Via Christo Rey!
As a child and going to Catholic school the nuns instilled this in us. Now i'm 74 and knees don't bend anymore without pain sorry to say. I get into the pew and then kneel. I hope Jesus forgives me!

@@leilastar8303 TOTALLY UNBIBLICAL. THERE IS NO PURGATORY. GOD HAS A PLAN OF SALVATION AND IT DOES NOT AND NEVER HAS INCLUDED AN ASSISTING WORK LIKE MAN STAYING IN A PLACE CALLED PURGATORY. THIS IS A CATHOLIC IDEATION AND IS REJECTING GOD'S REDEMPTIVE PLAN OF SALVATION THROUGH JESUS CHRIST, THE SINLESS LAMB. WE CAN'T PURGE OUR SIN NO MATTER HOW MANY YEARS YOU SPEND IN PURGATORY. THE SACRIFICE OF HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST PAID YOUR SIN DEBT IN FULL. THE PLAN OF SALVATION EXPLAINED OFFERED FREELY TO US BY ALMIGHTY GOD: The only means of salvation is Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12 & John 14:6). He died on the cross to pay the penalty of our sins (I Peter 2:24). He offers each of us a pardon for our sins (Hebrews 9:26) and wants us to become children of God (John 1:12). The evidence of salvation is two-fold. The internal evidence is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:16). The external evidence is the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22, 23). We become a new creation (II Cor. 5:17) and are transformed into the image of Christ (II Cor. 3:18).
TO COME TO CHRIST, BE A FORGIVEN CHILD OF GOD AND SPEND ETERNITY WITH A HOLY FATHER GOD IN HEAVEN, YOU DESPERATELY NEED TO TONIGHT BELIEVE THE ONLY PLAN OF SALVATION OFFERED TO US BY ALMIGHTY GOD. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO IMPROVE YOURSELF OR MITIGATE YOUR SIN AFTER DEATH. YOU MUST DO IT NOW, WHY NOT TONIGHT. GO TO BED TONIGHT KNOWING..KNOWING GOD'S WORD IS TRUE THAT HE BLED AND DIED AND ROSE TO FORGIVE YOU OF ALL YOUR SIN..THEN TRUST AND FOLLOW HIM ALONE AS SAVIOR AND LORD. Here is a great revelation in God's Word the Bible: SALVATION IS BY FAITH ALONE, FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST AS THE SIN OFFERING GOD SENT. No rules, regulations, novenas, prayers to mary can improve God's Plan of Salvation. It is the Bible truth. "For it is by grace (Free merit you cannot earn by works, religion or purgatory), you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God" -: Ephesians 2:8

When I knell in front of the Blessed Tabernacle I start to tremble and my heart start to pound so strongly, I thank the Holy Trinity for allowing me, a poor sinner, kneel so close to Him, my Lord.
Fr. Mark, thank you for all thar you do to help us find our way to heaven. Yesterday I finished reading In His Zone to my mother, who has been bedbound for 2 years. We equated her bed to a raft and her journey in solitude to a mission God has given her to get closer to Him..and to use her time to pray for others..we did laugh that at least she wasn't getting rained on. So many messages for both of us we needed to hear written in such a delightful, engaging way. Thank you for helping me bring joy to my mom.

You make me weep for joy. Several years and before my Dad's conversion to catholicism my Mom started to read about Padre Pio. Of course I was to arrogant and thought I had too much on my mind ( or at least I thought), she kept a prayer with her at Mass Stay with Me Lord. When my beautiful mother passed 8 years after my Dad, my brother and I said a Chaplet of Divine Mercy. When I came back to NC I had a few of her things. One of the things I had was her purse. When I started to go through it I found a piece of worn paper that had been lovingly folded and refolded many times. As long as I am sure a tear drop or two may have fallen. That pice of beloved paper with those words that just makes you want to sat for a while and wash Jesus's feet with your tears and then to place you hands on His knee and rest your head on His knee I'm on His loving presence and just listen to Him talk to you forever. Then you realize the prayer is over p quickly and the beauty and the peace though still there is now covered with a veil. Thank you Mom for the love of one of your favorite saints.
I have often passed the altar having not bowed. I will share this with my children today. They rarely fail to genuflect but this will be an excellent reminder. I will spend some time in front of the Sacrament today to offer up my worship. Thanks be to God I found the Catholic church. Or I'd surely be hell bound for all my disrespect to the Sacrament and the blessed Mother. I pray for the dead in purgatory often, hoping my prayers release them so when I die they'll pray for me. Now I will need to re double my efforts.

Food for souls. Fr. Your preaching shows souls the way to Heaven. Now a day, many priests preach the gospel of the world : the gospel of football and party, of money. Their sermons almost always mention charity which end up with money - second and third collection and fund raising. The $$$ is mentioned in almost all sermons.

Thank you for posting this Fr. Goring, this topic is so timely for me and my family. The family prayer chain on my wife’s side immediately lit up and activated once we all got word of my brother-in-law going to the hospital as he collapsed at home. His wife (my wife’s older sister)told one of our nephews that it wasn’t looking good for him and to pray for a miracle. He sadly didn’t make because he had a heart attack but later on that day the family met via Zoom (because we’re all scattered between the Philippines, Canada, and the US) to start a rosary novena for his soul. My wife and I couldn’t request a Mass for our brother-in-law until 2-3 days later because he passed away over the weekend. But we were eventually able to have Gregorian Masses celebrated for him.
When someone pops into my head I know now they need prayer. And when you dream of someone who has died you should pray for there soul as well! Thank you Fr you are such a blessing to so many. You are in my prayers for all priests
That poor soul was also missing the grace of gratitude and humility. Knowing padre pio will pray for you in the morning is cause for patient rejoicing. I remember watching the alter servers practice for my pastor’s installation Mass. At one point an alter server asked our pastor if he was genuflecting too much and my pastor responded in a calm matter-of-fact way “you can never show Christ too much respect”
I recently watched a movie called Purgatory. I was so captivated that I watched it again the next day. They said mass is the Best gift and prayers a close second. They will remember those who prayed for them too. 🙏🏻🌹
Thank you so much, Father Mark, I love seeing the Priest honouring the altar and Christ's blessed presence in the tabernacle at the start of Mass. It feels as if he is taking us with him when we attend Mass online "every knee shall bow"
Wow, that was a profoundly powerful message, thank you Fr. Mark! Just a simple gesture of love in the form of a genuflection speaks louder than our words of love. What a big, yet simple responsibility we have towards the souls in purgatory in our prayers and sacrifices for them. This teaches me never to put off prayer again, thank you!

Thank you God for Fr. Goring, I pray for more priests speaking the Truth as I know it pains our Lord evermore in His Passion when so many in the church disrespect him, and yet many of our priests remain silent about this withholding the Truth out of fear. As Our Lord and King Jesus said to Louisa Piccarreta, I allow my church to be closed due to the irreverence and lack of prayer. Brothers and sisters, open your hearts to receive Jesus and your ears to hear Jesus.

Dear Father: We in México celebrate Saint José Luis Sánchez Del Rio. Maryrized at at 15 years old. He is A Patron of Courage To Die For Our Holy Faith. He also died at The Exclamation "¡Viva Cristo Rey!" This child martyr was flayed from the skin of his feet. He was forced to walk like this among other torments. He challenged the captain who ordered the torture. He also said: "How easy it is in these times of persecution to earn Heaven" Greetings From México City, México.
Yes! You should never put off praying for the sick and dying, the dead and anyone who's crying out for help. Thank you, Father Mark, for reminding us how important it is to pray for divine mercy on all souls. God bless you in your mission on earth.
I was watching the Fulton Sheen episode “Fears & Anxieties” when he talked about terrors and cruelty only being visited on a guilty conscience. Reminds me of how one of the daughters of Lust is abhorrence of a future world, we don’t give proper reverence to things that are holy anymore.
In a strange way I always get a persistence in my mind when someone requires prayers who has passed away and it's probably a gift even though I do now pray regularly for the souls in purgatory especially for those who have passed in my family, I did used to get this overwhelming resolve by that person or by God that this person in particular requires prayers immediately because they may have been in purgatory for a very long time. And as soon as I started to pray for that particular soul after a week or so, they left my mind and I continue to pray for them occasionally but they're no longer pursuing me in a sense spiritually. So I really agree with you father and I hope that you stress this a lot when you're doing homilies and sometimes I would even recommend though I'm not a priest, tell a penitent to do the same. "It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the Dead that they may be released from their sins", stated in second Maccabees. And so it truly is.
Good advice~ Let us pray daily and have masses offered ASAP! And if we have lots of love for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, genuflecting will be a pleasure!

I'm the only Catholic in my family, and my kids are not practicing. I will have no one to pray for me. That is one of my biggest fear is that, except for The Blessed Virgin Mary, I do not have, and will not have, any one to pray for me now or in death. That is also why everyday I often pray for those who have no one to pray for them.
Well, God bless you, and you will just have to plan on going to Heaven, for their sake!😉 I am close to the same situation as you...which is why my husband tells me that I have to go to Heaven, so I can pray for him and our families...He is a cradle Catholic, who claims I converted him back to the Catholic faith. I think it was The Holy Spirit, who might have used me to get the message across to him...🤗
Pray every day for the souls in purgatory. Pray every day for all who are in most need of the miracles from heaven. I always start with Father this is the day in which you have made let thy will be done not my will. Father I must confess it breaks my heart to watch people just nod at the alter. I don't understand then I always say I can not do that because I am but a lowly sinner and our Lord deserves love and respect for his sacrifice for my sins.
Perhaps our prayers for a soul in Purgatory can be retroactive. Didn't Padre Pio continue praying for his grandfather *after* his grandfather was taken to Heaven? Someone asked Padre Pio why he was still praying for his grandfather even though his grandfather was already in Heaven. Padre Pio answered, "It's these prayers that got him there."
@@PaulGDextraze No it is not. Stories get slightly changed by forgetful people until they're completely different from the true original. Yours is sadly an example. The true story (that can be verified by numerous sources if you do an internet search) is Padre Pio was asked by his Doctor why he prayed for the happy death of his great-grandfather who had already passed away. He said, “For the Lord, the past doesn’t exist; the future doesn’t exist. Everything is an eternal present. Those prayers had already been taken into account. And so I repeat that even now I can pray for the happy death of my great-grandfather.” - from the book, The Holy Souls by Alessio Parente, OFM Cap.
How about this one Father. My holy spiritual director who passed in December spoke to me saying "get me out of the fire! I'm burning because I used hand sanitizer before distribution of communion after consecrating and holding the body of our Lord. Pray rosaries for me and have masses said. We had Gregorian masses said for the repose of his soul and continue to offer up rosaries for him. It is a VERY SERIOUS thing to reverence our Lord in the Eucharist and this priest was very holy, he was not only my spiritual director but a very dear friend to my whole family.
@@thomasmc7752 do you not fear falling into the hands of the living God? This is why I will always love and reverence our Lord because of his everlasting mercy.
Yes I do fear God, but when I go to confession I have to ask myself how much is this for the love of God, and how much just to save me own skin. St Therese and her little way talks about not being overly fearful of God, so it's a bit of a balancing act. I probably fear myself as much as anything because I might fall into carelessness, but somehow I doubt it because I fear God's rejection. If fear is the begging of wisdom, I suppose I'm wise enough to realise that love must be its maturity. I'm honest enough to admit I'm not fully mature but I am grateful for the gift of life. Is that love, I suppose it's all about degrees. By the way I heard Fr Marks story differently from Fr Alessio who lived with Padded Pioneering. The lad apparently didn't do his duty through laziness, no mention of disrespecting the real presence. And perhaps he was in the lessor suffering level of purgatory.

+Thank you dear Father! May we burn with such love for our sweet Jesus in all we think, say and do that we might skip the purifying fires of purgatory and run straight into the Arms of our Merciful Jesus when we die+
I posted this earlier, but I wanted to post to everybody: I trust Jesus, but this scares me because I often spend my lunch hours in a side chapel behind the Altar, not because I'm consumed with love and devotion, but because of what I lack and want to be better than I am. Would it be better for me if I didn't spend time with the Eucharist, owing the possible disrespect I may be giving?
The Lord Jesus Christ can read your heart and your mind...you're probably good, just show more reverence, now that you have the knowledge...Man was made in God's image...I cannot say the same for woman, who was created from man...😉

Rosary needs reverence, pondering, meditation, focus, knees being involved.
How can you focus on rosary while at the traffic lights? You either pray or endangering lives of others by not paying attention to the road or endangering your soul by not paying attention to your prayer
Thoughtless repetition of such sacred prayer, treasure of the Church while you are out and about is not praying.
In purgatory we all will learn how to pray Rosary with reverence.
*Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great to Release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory*
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said throughout the world today,
for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
those in my own home and within my family.
Amen.
(Our Lord promised St. Gertrude that 1,000 souls would be released from Purgatory every time this prayer is said devoutly.)
♥️”The holy souls in purgatory are our friends. If everyone adopted one holy soul to pray for, purgatory would be emptied in no time.” - St. Gertrude the Great
Important message!! ♥️ Thank you Father Mark. God bless you always!!
♥️ Viva Cristo Rey! ♥️
Hi Terri,
This is a wonderful prayer to St Gertrude, and it’s consoling, not just to the souls in purgatory but to us who pray it too, knowing that we can help them, and for the love of them and the Lord. As you say, if everyone says this prayer every day, purgatory would soon empty!
Say it day and night and in between, God Bless
By adopting a soul, are we to name a specific soul? Else how will we know who we are praying for, and would we not end up praying for someone new each time?
@@InventorKnight But what do I say? I just say I'm praying for my adopted soul, yeah?
@@nathanielreif4870 Just say" I'm praying for THE poor souls in purgatory" Your prayer will go to someone who needs it and has no one to pray for them.
My good Italian friend Dad loved Pedro and one night I woke up at 3am and had a great feeling to pray to Pedro for my friends Dad. Woke up to the news that her Dad passed away during the night🙏 Crazy how we are all connected.
💘🙏💘
Good teaching Father. Gratias.
It is very important to pray for the poor suols .of Purgatory ,not only for our family members but for everyone so when we die they will help us in that particular moment
Pray the Rosary for them. I pray for them once in awhile.
@L A Amen .
What a blessed Saint, thanks for sharing this story 🙏
It was ingrained into me since I was little and in Catholic school to genuflect, not bow. Bow only if you’re unable to genuflect. Also as an American the only person I kneel before is God. Via Christo Rey!
As a child and going to Catholic school the nuns instilled this in us. Now i'm 74 and knees don't bend anymore without pain sorry to say. I get into the pew and then kneel. I hope Jesus forgives me!
@@ldav2006 Oh that is totally fine. Most of the seniors do and that is understandable. My mother is in her 80s and I have not seen her genuflect in years. Priest at my former Parish was younger than me, I’m 50, and he bows because of football injuries. Some day, God willing, I will get there too.
@@ldav2006 there is nothing to forgive. Our body parts wear out , probably from all your praying. God understands. Just be reverent from the heart of body parts don't work.

I always felt scorn for the old people who bowed before the altar. Thanks to a bad hip and two bad knees, I now get a taste of my own scorn, and probably that of a dozen others in the Church.
“Blessed is the man who perseveres in temptation, for when he has been proved he will receive the crown of life that he promised to those who love him.”
James 1:12
“But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.”
Matthew 24:13
By our prayers we can empty purgatory.
St. Padre Pio
There is no purgatory
@PowerTime88 com finally someone not ignorant, I'm glad that someone sees the false beliefs and practices in the Catholic church, their doctrines and teachings are not biblical.
THE PLAN OF SALVATION EXPLAINED OFFERED FREELY TO US BY ALMIGHTY GOD:
The only means of salvation is Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12 & John 14:6).

Love Padre Pio, when I dream of someone who has died I always pray for them, thank you Father Mark for your guidance !! 🥰✝️🙏

Lord have mercy on us.
When someone pops into my head I know now they need prayer. And when you dream of someone who has died you should pray for there soul as well!
Thank you Fr you are such a blessing to so many. You are in my prayers for all priests

Beautiful!!

And today rarely if ever people genoflect during the celebration of the Eucharist and when receiving the Blessed Sacrament.
Well, God bless you, and you will just have to plan on going to Heaven, for their sake!😉
I am close to the same situation as you...which is why my husband tells me that I have to go to Heaven, so I can pray for him and our families...He is a cradle Catholic, who claims I converted him back to the Catholic faith.
What powerful and enlightening Pearls of Wisdom giving Glory to God!
Is that the exact story?
@@chrispbacon5313 Yes.
@@PaulGDextraze No it is not. Stories get slightly changed by forgetful people until they're completely different from the true original. Yours is sadly an example.
The true story (that can be verified by numerous sources if you do an internet search) is Padre Pio was asked by his Doctor why he prayed for the happy death
of his great-grandfather who had already passed away.
He said, “For the Lord, the past doesn’t exist; the future doesn’t exist.
Everything is an eternal present.
Those prayers had already been taken into account.
And so I repeat that
even now I can pray for the happy death of my great-grandfather.”
- from the book, The Holy Souls by Alessio Parente, OFM Cap.
@@PaulGDextraze Doesn't say he was already in heaven.... Padre pio was simply praying for him (the grandfather) to have a good death.😃

Wow, that's a wake up call right there!
How does fear generate love?
The spelling came out wrong, France Alessio lived with Padre Pio. I have Fr Alessio's statements on tape recording.
San Pio, pray for us

Hebrews 12:28 "Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;"
Only one night in purgatory and the holy soul said "Cruel". I just imagine how about the soul that spent many years there?
+Thank you dear Father! May we burn with such love for our sweet Jesus in all we think, say and do that we might skip the purifying fires of purgatory and run straight into the Arms of our Merciful Jesus when we die+
Amen and amen.
I posted this earlier, but I wanted to post to everybody:
I trust Jesus, but this scares me because I often spend my lunch hours in a side chapel behind the Altar, not because I'm consumed with love and devotion, but because of what I lack and want to be better than I am. Would it be better for me if I didn't spend time with the Eucharist, owing the possible disrespect I may be giving?
The Lord Jesus Christ can read your heart and your mind...you're probably good, just show more reverence, now that you have the knowledge...Man was made in God's image...I cannot say the same for woman, who was created from man...😉
Thank You Fr Mark for your continued encouragement. God bless you.
