That tank is long enough but it's not big enough from front to back. Pretty soon he'll hardly be able to turn around in there.

That's a huge tank but it still looks really small and pretty boring for a cichlid of that size. I'd say 600-1000 gallons would be much better.

Nice looking Dovii! You may want to put some lids on that tank so you don't lose him. Maybe you had the lids off for feeding? I would hate to see you lose him from jumping out. Keep up the great work :)
Thanks man. Are the known for jumping? I know he jumped out the tub he was in once he got home. And Yes I do have lids I took them off to feed.

I was going to build a cave at one end of the tank for him but never got around to it yet. Most likely he will destroy anything I put in there there so I just left it so he has more swimming room.

Bro, just because you watch RUclips videos of Aquarium CoOp's visit to Guapotemel doesn't mean you know anything. He is probably the most meticulous keeper of Dovii, or Central/South American Cichlids for that matter. He kept Dovii in 240's for years and years. He would agree that they thrive more in a 600 gallon tank, and I personally won't own a Dovii in any tank less than 36 inches wide fully mature. Although, if you take pride and care for your fish then I won't knock keeping a Dovii in a 240. Bare tank isn't a bad idea considering the fish at that size can injure itself if it gets spooked. Since you are an expert from watching RUclips videos take note of what happened to King Of DIY's Arowana who broke it's back on driftwood after jumping. You're talking about some 3X's as wide as the fish? You realize these guys can reach close to 30 inches, so you also realize you're saying the tank needs to be almost 6 feet wide? What do you recommend for length? 8 feet? Also, if you can find the man power to move a tank that big how would you even fit it into a house? Or get it out? Should people build a semi-rectangle tank that could never be taken out of the room it's in? I don't even know of many double doors that could fit that. You sound so compulsively ignorant. Sorry your girlfriend cheated on you, or if your family hates you, or if you hate yourself for being a piece of shit. Regardless, you should funnel Clorox then play in traffic. Or actually try and be nice to someone today. so I have heard that tin foil barbs and red hook silver dollars help cichlids ease up on their aggression if so would that make it possible to give a dovii tank mates just because I'm about to build a 250+ gallon tank at work and I want one of these cause I've never had one before but I don't like having just one fish will this method allow me to house a jag in with him/her or should I invest in a second tank if I want jaguars too cause I will do that if I have to but if this method would work I would rather that

A dovii tank sould be at least 10 feet long, 3.2 feet deep and 30 high and keep about 600 Gallons.

Keeping aquatic animals like fish considers a lot of factors but the volume of the tank so that the fish can show his natural behaviour is one of the most imported things. For this an fish should at least have 5 body lengths in the wide 2 lengths in deep and 2 in hight. That is a rule that is like forever there but its for selfish pricks like you that just need animals like dovii or channa micropeltes just to show off in front of other people to look cool by saying that your fish would just eat theres....

The growth stuck don´t depend on tank size but on water parameters. Cichlid tanks are mostly high on NO3 and NH4 for this most recommend big and weekly water changes so by changing non stop water you could growth your dovii even in 150Gallons.
Also that what people do and what is right and scientifically proven are two different shoes. There are enough idiots seems like you that are ok by keeping Oscars in 55 Gallons. There are enough idiots like you that are ok with keeping dovii in 250 Gallons.
There are things that are not on your level that you could take and if you want to keep fish that go big as an koi you also need the space of an koi.
There are also hundreds of other facts that you are wrong but im bored with you because people like you are not able to learn and just look for answers that fit in there wishes so that they ok with doing mistakes.

not sure what is sad about it, I purchased the fish to rescue from a 90 gallon moved it to a 240 gallon and kept it for about 6 months and gave it away to guy with a heated pond
