That comment about "Jimmy Fallon not being Conan" was an understatement. Conan has more talent in his left nostril than Fallon's got in his entire career.
That clip had me laughing so hard I cried, Artie is just a natural old school comedian of the darker nature. Conan is more cerebreal. Love that they are friends.
Artie and Howard called it. Man I wish I could make a time machine and go back in time to change history so that Conan would just remain at Late Night where he belonged. In my opinion, when Conan took over Late Night from Letterman, he not only filled the shoes properly but elevated the show to a new and more modern level.
Came here after reading Crash and Burn where Artie reveals that he was completely blacked out during this interview. Knowing that while watching this is truly bizarre!
this was probably the funniest guest on conan i have ever seen, artie was just straight up talknig about heroin and you could tell how like awkward it was and how conan wanted him to tstop, hes this big jolly guy just chillin talking bout things you would not normally say on conan... amazing
A lot of people just don't appreciate some of his darker humour because they haven't been there. I'm depressed as fuck and 99% bi-polar but funny too and I can totally appreciate his humour. When people gasp and go "oh wow this guy's messed up" they just don't realize he's trying to be funny. If you're in a dark place = your humour will be dark, as will all your comments and outlook. Your moods shape your perspective. I never used to like him that much but he's grown on me.
yeah i was just throwing that out there because once they began looking for a replacement way back when, i thought he would be perfect. He was always great on the show and is a phenomenal stand-up. artie is pretty cool too and he has some interesting stories. my best memories of the show are from the era of jackie and billie west and when sam kinison would come in all sozzled. take care.
He says: "You were like...you were a writer." Conan was a TV writer before having his show. He even wrote episodes for The Simpsons (the monorail episode was written by Conan, amongst others).
@kkwik22 Yeah so many people said that. Like John Mayer had some song that "LA will eat you alive" and like Will Ferrell had that goodbye song on his first night. Conan was just never meant to cut it on a professional, older-skewed show. And everyone called it
canon looks crazy uncomfortable. thats the difference between him and leno, leno never gets rattled like conan does when having guests that arent squeeky clean like conan
oh i got them alright, im very quick. my fav was when he said the kind of guys the person who wrote his book works with, and conan said i cant wait to work with him. lol but being that this was gonna be his last appearance before Conan leaves, i thought it could have been better. And that shirt too, come on man. but i do love artie
Did you guys hear that. After Conan made the joke about seeing himself in Artie, and Artie retorted, he said, "You don't have much longer." Early signs...
I hope you all realize that he did the show bright and early that day... and had a book signing for the fans. Artie's funnier than most on Conan, even when he's dead tired. Hopefully the guy is staying sober.
Holy shjf. Connor from “Bright eyes” was the musical guest after Artie?!? Why can’t I find them interviewing Conor with Artie roasting him? Haha I feel like Artie would hate Bright Eyes.
I have to disagree with you. Howards show is what makes Artie a star. If Howard stopped his show today, Artie's shows would not sell out anymore. He wouldn't have a national forum in which to plug it with the listenership that Howard has. Don't get me wrong. Artie is a funny guy and I laugh my ass off at the things he says. But to say Howard is nothing without Artie is really an insult to the show.
Conan was already rich beyond his wildest dreams. It's not always about money, especially when you already have more than you ever thought you had. As opposed to Jay, who still insists on getting paid when he goes to an open mic night to test new jokes. Never mind that he's worth about $300M, he's got to get that extra $2k testing his safe jokes that everybody else has already thought of.
The book is good yet sad. He literally would stay in his hotel room all day and come out an hr before he had to make an appearance like this. No shower or change of clothes. Sad.
I'm an Artie fan, but Dave Attell would be great on Stern! Was this a legitimate possibility back then or are you just throwing out a name of a comic you like?
That comment about "Jimmy Fallon not being Conan" was an understatement. Conan has more talent in his left nostril than Fallon's got in his entire career.
Conan: "Its very bright in here" Artie: "Thank you"
loool nice noticing that looool
Artie telling Conan that it's a bad move to go to LA for the Tonight Show was very prophetic
That clip had me laughing so hard I cried, Artie is just a natural old school comedian of the darker nature. Conan is more cerebreal. Love that they are friends.
Completely zonked on heroin and he's still hilarious. So many great lines in this interview.
Artie and Howard called it.

This is the greatest interview of all time
Greatest late night interview of all time.
Came here after reading Crash and Burn where Artie reveals that he was completely blacked out during this interview. Knowing that while watching this is truly bizarre!
Conan: “I look forward to working with him” underrated comment
this was probably the funniest guest on conan i have ever seen, artie was just straight up talknig about heroin and you could tell how like awkward it was and how conan wanted him to tstop, hes this big jolly guy just chillin talking bout things you would not normally say on conan... amazing
Artie gotta be HIGH AS HELL
The G.O.A.T. There's nothing funnier than honesty. 😂
I love how Artie just sits back, chillin. Although he was probably high. Still cool as hell.
Probably???? Lol
“Probably” bahahaha
Keith Richards of comedy
Conan is the greatest late night host of all time.
This interview is friggin great! Awesome stuff.
true raw comedy at its finest love it
I wouldn't have guessed that was Artie Lange. He looks like Michael Moore.
Even high, he's hilarious. A true talent.
I think its getting more to the point where howards show is nothing without ARTIE.
Artie is great in this. The awkwardness never lead to disaster. :D
artie looks like a million bucks!! i hope he comes back to the show soon
This is so great! Artie was on the time proclaming to be off heroin. This interview is the best i have ever seen!
love how artie has sweatpants on
A lot of people just don't appreciate some of his darker humour because they haven't been there.

so, are you still as messed up as 12 years ago ?
Comedians on coke are just the most hilarious people.
"I think it's a bad choice" Artie was spot on about Conan leaving for the Tonight show
yeah i was just throwing that out there because once they began looking for a replacement way back when, i thought he would be perfect. He was always great on the show and is a phenomenal stand-up. artie is pretty cool too and he has some interesting stories. my best memories of the show are from the era of jackie and billie west and when sam kinison would come in all sozzled. take care.
Oh My God, this is the best TV ever!!!!!!
Artie being truthful and the shock it evokes.
Howard Stern created truthful media.
omg artie predicts Conan getting 40 milion for not doing the show. crazy
Artie is shockingly honest...and its hilarious
He says: "You were like...you were a writer." Conan was a TV writer before having his show. He even wrote episodes for The Simpsons (the monorail episode was written by Conan, amongst others).
This is absolutely hilarious and refreshing.
was listening to howard 100 in the car and they were just talking about this interview so I had to watch it.
Artie is now my hero, and no I am not being sarcastic. Genius.
Artie is the best! Wish he was still on Howard
You know your a funny guy when even the awkward pauses you generate get laughs...
@kkwik22 Yeah so many people said that. Like John Mayer had some song that "LA will eat you alive" and like Will Ferrell had that goodbye song on his first night. Conan was just never meant to cut it on a professional, older-skewed show. And everyone called it
Conan did get paid by NBC to not work a couple years later! He can thank Artie for that!
2:30 to Conan's face at 3:01 is a golden moment in television history.
I so need to pick that book up
canon looks crazy uncomfortable. thats the difference between him and leno, leno never gets rattled like conan does when having guests that arent squeeky clean like conan
oh i got them alright, im very quick. my fav was when he said the kind of guys the person who wrote his book works with, and conan said i cant wait to work with him. lol but being that this was gonna be his last appearance before Conan leaves, i thought it could have been better. This is a normal jersey afternoon chilling wit your boy at 3pm by the park....
Did you guys hear that. After Conan made the joke about seeing himself in Artie, and Artie retorted, he said, "You don't have much longer."
Early signs...
TV Guide says"Jeers to Conan"? That's good enough for me. I believe it
I LIKE HOW THEY PLAY DEMOLITION MAN!! LOL!!! he is blowing himself up!
I hope you all realize that he did the show bright and early that day... and had a book signing for the fans. Artie's funnier than most on Conan, even when he's dead tired.
Hopefully the guy is staying sober.
Priceless
y doesnt this have 10 million views
See how he threw Artie's book on the desk in frustration.
Holy shjf. Connor from “Bright eyes” was the musical guest after Artie?!? Why can’t I find them interviewing Conor with Artie roasting him? Haha
I feel like Artie would hate Bright Eyes.
I think he was more concerned with censors than being uncomfortable.
How great and sad is what theyre talkin about at the end..."40 mill not to work"
Artie is hilarious...and I already miss Conan
that was brilliant the "Without getting laid" part
Artie nerfed on Vicodin is funnier than 87% of comedians at full capacity.
It's good to see Michael Moore is doing fine.
Did all this in a total black out!
Lmao lmao 😂❤❤
that was the most awkward conversation ever
I cannot believe how heavy he got. It is truly a shame that he doesn't take care of his health.
i imagine he was an earlier guest on this particular episode. it's not at all uncommon for the first guest to hang around during later interviews.
2:25 - 2:29 (lmao) 6:27 - 6:33 (lmao) 7:13 - 8:11 (lmao) 9:21 - 9:24
artie is fucking classic he always tell the truth
Seth Green was the 1st guest, in front of Artie? What the F man!
He should be Conans last guest so he can predict the future again.
He looks like he lost a lot of weight. Good to see him in shape.
artie looks fantastic!
No, definitely not the only one, one of hundreds of millions maybe (well, not hundreds, but you get the idea)
seth green standing next to conan omg
He's lookin' good.
im wearing arties shirt hes wearing in this interview
Conan was already rich beyond his wildest dreams. It's not always about money, especially when you already have more than you ever thought you had.
As opposed to Jay, who still insists on getting paid when he goes to an open mic night to test new jokes. Never mind that he's worth about $300M, he's got to get that extra $2k testing his safe jokes that everybody else has already thought of.
Why not? If someone paid me to tell bad jokes,I'd take it.
The only problem I have with this is that Artie is the second guest? BEHIND Seth Green!? Gimme a break!
The book is good yet sad. He literally would stay in his hotel room all day and come out an hr before he had to make an appearance like this. No shower or change of clothes. Sad.
he car collection is worth about that, from what ive read.
You can't throw Conan (8:07).
Artie tried but it can't be done.
Artie Lange is the 21st century's John Belushi.
@jpersaud howard too, he was 2 years earlier though.
The most perfectly accurately sentence in history.
yeh seth green and conan next to each other resemble DR EVIL and MINI ME
Artie owns.
A “diamond booze bracelet” 😂😂😂
really good! he's the best!
If he's still alive when Stern's Sirius contract expires, I'd be amazed
Boom
@klwewf isnt he the older brother of malcolm from malcolm in the middle?
oh man, that is so embarrassing to watch. I really have to be sober.
... Dammm Artie called that Conan move.
he is high as an effin kite
I'm an Artie fan, but Dave Attell would be great on Stern! Was this a legitimate possibility back then or are you just throwing out a name of a comic you like?
seth green is after my lucky charms
So funny Arnie knew the whole time.
Whoa. Seth Greene is like half of Conan's height!
LOL! A little Hey-nanny-nanny!
funniest shit ever, good stuff...and artie is clearly exhausted from the book signings
5:41 Priceless.
@TomCollins006 I love how uncomfortable Conan gets when they start talking about his money.
i think it's kind of funny how artie said that the move to the tonight show was a bad move.... conan should've listened to him lol
Artie is the best
legend
Can't blame him for wanting to do fresh heroin
