- ***OCCASIONAL SWEARING & excited shrieking warning 😜 this is your disclaimer
We think this is the T109A “Biggs” transient pod, with T097 bull, also known as the Runways.
June 16, 2022 between 6:45-8:45pm near Portland Island in Juneau, Alaska. During a last-minute evening cruise with no plan, we ended up following a family of Orca from a distance in my 18ft skiff, until they seemed to pause offshore from the island. We quickly realized they were hunting a sea lion & may have either been teaching a calf in the process, or simply playing with their prey, hence the drawn-out nature of this event. We turned the engine off and floated for well over an hour as they circled us over and over, swimming directly under the boat a few times. Pardon our audible excitement and the swearing 😜 The sea lion put up a strong fight, but eventually succumbed to one of the most powerful predators on earth. After they finally took their prey, the adults seemed to celebrate, breaching one after another. Thank you for blessing us with this experience.
Best orca footage EVER! I mean, every move orcas make was shown here. I am so grateful that you stayed there and kept filming. Seriously, orca scientists need to see this footage!
Love the shot looking over your dogs ears, at the end.
The sun’s reflection on the water is beautiful, along with the Orca acrobat show. Amazing that they were so close to you.
Amazing footage Spenser. Extra credit!
You guys are soooo lucky! Beautiful orcas! This is a dream of mine to see one great video
That's awesome ! Thanks for sharing this great experience with us.
Awesome footage!!! 😃
Oh my God!! You guys are so lucky!!
Did Lou ever get on a boat with you again. 😂
Nice! The big boy had to show off at the end. ❤
AWESOME ! Obsessed with orcas!
You have T97 and the T100Bs there :)
You guys are so lucky!!! And also, I cant tell if you are enjoying it or scared af... or both? 🤭 I wonder if your dog sense the apex predator in front of him or maybe it was curiosity and was frustrated he couldnt get closer.
Haha, we were excited! Exhilaration from feeling the power and proximity of these beasts. And... we maaay have had a cocktail at the beginning that influenced the sheer amount of swearing.
Knowing this pack, I think it was more of a “what is that, I want to sniff it, what’s my cattle dog job here?”
Transient/Biggs orcas are known to cat-like play/toy with their food. It allows the younger orcas to experience and learn hunting tactics. They are also known to sometimes let their prey go after a while.
Thank you for posting this!!!!
That was awesome!
Amazing video! I love your guys’ reaction, I would be sooo happy too if I saw this

@@spenserrr oh. my. God. What the f…x500. Holy shiite x500. Etc the footage is amazing, thank you, and the running commentary needs a musical background
Al the swearing ruins the video
I’m sorry it bothered you. However, that’s why the very first line of the video description, in asterisks, gives a swearing warning - so as to offer the viewer the chance to mute audio in advance, or opt out of viewing.
@@spenserrr didn’t catch that. It was still great video. I can’t imagine how fast their hearts were racing, being surrounded by those massive Orca. Once in a lifetime experience ❤️
@@cynthia6919 Hey, glad you still enjoyed it. I don’t have a problem with swearing in general, but I was definitely a little embarrassed when I realized just how much we were doing it, after I got home and watched the footage. Those experiences put you so in-the-moment, it’s easy to not realize how reactive you may have been. Oops!
@@spenserrr no worries. Once when we were driving, my son was 4 or 5. Someone cut us off in traffic and my son said, “Son of a bitch!” I replied, “Hey, don’t talk like that. Where did you learn that?!” His reply, “From you, Mom.” Oh dear!! I am famous for using sentence enhancers at the wrong time. I would love to see Orca that close. Keep on filming!
@@cynthia6919 Thanks Cynthia!
