Thank you for sharing your resume. What year did you start working at GS? I don't think your resume would've passed the ATS system that we have nowadays.
Jesus J, your personality is so likable and your video get so high quality and direct. Finding this channel is like finding gold, I guarantee that your only fighting against time here because your channel is destined to blow up. Thanks for all the great information.
This video appeared randomly on my feed.. Not even in the finance industry but I learnt alot!! Great tips, good speaking skills, excellent video! Props to you sir
I’m starting to wade into that murky water of looking for another job (different industry), and your confidence and personality really hit me. Just the kind of inspiration I’ve been looking for. Thanks dude.

I'm not a target for your demo, but your advice is really applicable across various industries (eg. replace Goldman w/ Google for Tech). Any position that requires a lot of human interaction, deep technical/domain knowledge, and will most likely be a lot of work but open other opps. Great video!
Your video timing couldn't be more perfect, very informational and the fact that the way you storytell made this video so realistic. Love it can't wait for more!
You crushed it John! Happy to see you back on YT. I thought your comment about just being human in your interviews is so important and often overlooked. I always say in my videos that both people in an interview want the conversation to go well. No interviewer (hopefully) goes into it wanting the conversation to be awkward. When you remember this it’s so much easier to build rapport and make that connection! Great tips! Although I’d have to say as someone at JPM that Goldman doesn’t ALWAYSSS get the best deals😉
I really hate it when recruiters says that shit. Of course interviewers want the conversation to go well, but not for the sake of the interviewee, but for the sake of the position being filled. The interviewee has much more at stake here, and anyone saying they are looking foward to this situation or they are having a good time as well either have the rare privilege of not NEEDING the job or they are lying to themselves.
This is by far the best "how to" video out there! I'm so glad I found you on youtube! Thank you so much for the advice on cold emails and resume building
Taking the time to try and reply to each comment isn't lost on me. Shows a lot about your character and that you care. The hard work and experience will serve you well in all endeavors including your youtube channel. Best of luck!
Great content as always! Being Hispanic trying to get into IB I was a bit discouraged but your transparency and advice has really given me hope! Would love to see that resume too!
Wow your video is so informative! You come across as someone who is intelligent yet very approachable on any subject. That’s a trait that sets you apart. I work as an accountant and EDI Specialist in Scotland 🏴. Working in finance in America would be a dream!
Great job John! Super impressed by your natural communication skills and you are so comfortable with yourself! I am much older than you but definitely learning from you! I hope to inspire my son like your mom did! Keep going!
I work in the automotive industry and don't know why the RUclips algo suggested this video but I really enjoyed it! You're really insightful and I've got tons of respect for you 🙏 There's no doubt you're super legit and great at what you do!
Starting college this fall and I'm already really interested in investment banking so this video came at the perfect time! I'd love to see your résumé :)
The experience in Investment bank really depends on department and personality, most are good at corporates, especially in IBD. If someone wants to control own future, such as trading, then it is a totally different story, someone is really a born top trader. IB is more of a sell side job, and not much about take risks and get rewards
can we do a masters in data science after bachelors accounting finance minor in business data analytics or is business data analytics better idk what tf to study lmao
Hi, thank you so much for a great video! I’m currently in my first year studying engineering at uni so this really helps as I’m thinking about going into finance.
This was very insightful information I can't wait to start my college career in college. I am looking for potential jobs in goldman, blackrock, jp and others. Thank you for all the great tips!
I don't usually comment on videos, but this is one of the best career an life advice videos I have seen. You seem genuine and obviously know what your talking about, thank you
Been watching you on Tiktok for a while and love you advice. Happy to see you are on RUclips right now and exploring and expanding your reach. Looking forward to seeing some useful Goldman and life advice.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing your unfiltered personal experience! The way you explained networking was super helpful and insightful. Would love to see how you approached the resume!
Found you from tiktok, now that you're on youtube - I know you're going to be quite huge! Keep up the work, you've been very inspiring even to all across the world to Australia. =)
Your video popped up randomly on my feed and glad I watched it till the end. Very information and great tips on the interview process, especially a place like GS where many think it's super tough to land a job, but you break it down to make it feel very achievable.
This was honestly the best video I've ever watched on how to network. Ahh, simply in love with each of your videos. Thanks for creating so much good into the world :)
As a content marketing manager, this feels so real. I have worked on weekends too, and the client's don't tend to give the entire information before asking us to complete a project. Once you are done, then they tell what is required. I mean what.
this feels like great advice for any job interview, though I was imagining a future interview for software development. Know your stuff, but remember to be an authentic and likable human being because SURPRISE that counts for a lot.
Hi man ! I like your video very much, and I didn’t specifically look for it and searched it. And interesting thing is I don’t even work in finance or analytics however I made some notes and wrote down some tips you mentioned, as they were so useful . Good luck
Super helpful video! Thank you for the most realistic and informative contents! Been so into data analytics these days Hope to see myself as a data analyst soon
Great video! Though i am not in your particular industry, i think you bring up really good points on how to interview successfully and land a job. I've worked as a management consultant over 15 years and the points you bring up are very valuable, even when you have been in the job for many years: - Always have your technical skills current and strong. Genuine understanding and application of the skills are what you need to try and achieve as you transition from an academic setting to a work/professional environment. Unlike your particular area in finance, consulting pitches you against many clients who work in your subject matter, but have a varying degree of understanding. Being able to understand a topic means you are able to articulate your advice to a crowd with varying degrees of technical skills. Be confident but be careful that you don't come off as condescending. The little old ladies who have worked in the job for 30+ years hold considerable sway in the organization! - Be human: even if you are an introvert, you can learn to be sociable. It'll may make you exhausted, but is a skill that can be learned and improved upon over time. Clients and employers appreciate someone who can hold a room and avert crisis when they always arise. It also goes without saying that you really need to keep a positive outlook on things. - Cold email/calls: Guess what? At some point, you will have to reach out to people you don't know. Even as you move up the ranks, you will need to reach out to other folks including executive sponsors and C-level individuals as you run your projects. As you become more successful, you will likely be pulled into a sales-support role. Knowing how to be an asset and assist in these efforts are very important to your career growth Great video once again. Subscribed!
And kudos on your positivity. This is THE key to success: a genuine desire to reframe things as positive even though it may be painful at the time you go through it. Though you should be confident in the decisions you made at the time, there is always room for improvement.
Arch!!! Loved your thoughtful reply and I really appreciate the kind words. Cheers! And I hope to provide you more lessons learned from my entrepreneurial journey that you can use as a management consultant
How to get a job at Goldman Sachs: -Have an MBA from one of the best universities in the world -Be exceptionally smart -Be incredibly dedicated to your job (70-80 hours a week) -have a perfect pedigree -Have insane extra-curricular achievements Yada yada yada...tldr: it's for the 0.01 percent of the bests students in any given country, if not less. That's the reality.
well, BS. Speaking for Poland, having any degree, good English, knowledge about financial markets and not being an idiot is more than enough to get a job in investment banking, including Goldman.
I left Goldman in 2004 and haven’t missed it for a day. It’s true you can get better opportunities elsewhere. At most other investment banks the overall level is lower, but you’ll get paid more without having to break your back.
Absolutely love your content John! I think establishing your identity FIRST through introductory content that gives context to your channel would help viewers who stumble across your channel (and not via Tik Tok). Only after then if you expand and segment into different content streams (ie banking, starting a start up, etc), I think it would greatly help viewers have a clearer and more linear understanding of you and your story.
Oh wow, thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback Chae. When you think about Introductory Content that does well, especially in terms of my story, do you have any suggestions on what kind of content I should make?
Great video, John! Quite the personality you present and the video is succinct and easy to follow. You "were a human" in this video, just like the advice of the Goldman Sachs interviewer you stated. Look forward to future content!
I think you should mention that you're referring to applying in US specifically. In most countries the culture of sending "cold emails" to random employees or networking doesn't really exist. Speaking for Poland, that would usually be considered significantly cringe and could only worsen your chances at getting a job. People aren't stupid and they realize that all you want is to use them and get the job easier lol. One thing that I can strongly advise on is being active in student organizations that focus on financial markets. That will not only give you real connections in investment banking, but will also stand out in your resume. My student organization was literally sponsored by Credit Suisse, so getting my first job there was a no-brainer.
Your video is by far one of the most insightful video I’ve watched in a good while. Thank you for sharing the knowledge ! Can’t wait to see what else is yet to come ◡̈
Awesome video jay. What technical skills would you recommend gaining to differentiate yourself? I'm currently learning Python right now, as well as VBA and R through my quantitative analytics class, but I don't really know what else I should add. Thank you so much!
Great video, Jay! I've always admired people who work at a large firm like Goldman Sachs, and thought there were always pros not cons haha. 🤣🤣🤣 but after watching your video my take on that changed little bit! I currently work at Fairfield by Marriott as a Guest Service Agent, and wish you all the best for your future!
super insightful video! currently still studying but interning for bny mellon right now. would love to continue working in IB after i graudate, thanks for the tips!
Hey man! Im about to get my second degree in finance and you know what? Your video actually gave me hope that I might actually get a good job in a good place! Great Video! Hope everything is going good you! Keep it up!
In Brazil, Goldman interns make R$ 2700 (US$ 550) a month. Less than a cleaning lady or a gas station attendant. GS only recruits from a couple of top colleges. They post a position on the web and you send a resumé. That's it. Programming (Python) helps.
Lucky me to have got recommended your videos! Would really appreciate a copy of your resume and I look forward to future videos to break into VC😊 Also I would love a video about your story in more detail (your journey breaking to VC and then to RUclips!) and insight on how to learn the skill of storytelling🙏
Thank you for the support Michael!! I’ve got some videos on those topics in the works ;) Let me know your email or social handle and I’ll send through the resume!
I entered this video, expecting another boring video of a random guy telling us that he had excellent scores, and one day Goldman Sachs called on him because his friend's parents from Berkeley worked there. Very good video, congratulations.
Bro, your videos have such a high quality. I really do enjoy them! Maybe you know Samuel Bosh he is kind of like in the same niche and also really good, but you have this kind of entertaining vibe connected with high quality in input! - Really enjoy it!

Extremely informative. Great video and good job!
Hey man, really enjoyed this video. Lots of great information! Would love to be able to have a look at your resume!
