I love this exhaust theory and modification stuff. I'm constantly tuning and modding my EMPI system on my 1600 bug. First thing before I ever installed it was to smooth out the pipe junctions to remove burrs, flashing and rough internal weld-through.
The system was originally a rear-mounted "quiet pack" muffler and I added extra piping to convert it into a tuck-away setup, not a true sidewinder but putting the muffler up under the guard. After the muffler there's a U bend that puts the tailpipe out the rear. This made the exhaust a fraction quieter and while I have no dyno figures, the engine felt more even in power delivery throughout the band.
It wasn't quiet enough to appease my neighbor though, so i've since added a resonator tip.
My next experiment will involve ditching the crappy EMPI muffler and replacing it with a glasspack with a short SuperTrapp disc muffler after it.
Love you Doctor Who exit music!

It's called perfexpert Dyno app. This is a virtual dyno that you can download from the app store. This one has been tested by many many Dyno experts. This thing is like Dead on when they compare it to a real chassis Dyno or engine dyno, generally when it's off it's usually off by one or two HP which is amazing accuracy. Downside is that it asks for a lot of information about your vehicle including transmission gearing tire size ring and pinion and on and on. Well worth it though.
