Let's be real Obito acting like tobi was probably the most fun he's had his entire life and that fun was cranked up to 11 when he got the chance to troll kakashi and his team
@@MephistoPhelless no he has it right here during this incident it was the real obito not a zetsu clone being a deliberate idiot just to fuck with kakashi an his team mates/subordinates. you have to pay close attention to how he fights to discern zetsu from obito, zetsu doesn't try to dodge or deflect he just tanks the hits but obito does everything to avoid being hit even using his mangekyo to avoid serious damage an then counters.
Obito: "The world is hell, I'm in hell, nothing really matters, you let Rin die" Also Obito: "DEIDARA-SENPAAAAAAI!!!" I wish we've gotten an interaction between Edo Deidara and White Mask Obito.
@@giannixxbecause it would have been a super akward interaction Can you just imagine deidara still thinking tobi is this goofball and then tobi being super serious and totally different then when he was with deidara lol That would be such a good thing to do but they wasted it unfortunetaly
@@ouvouvwevwavweenjat3566 And then it'd have bounced back to funny if Deidara realized Tobi had a Sharingan, pissed off that the guy that travelled and annoyed him with his antics was an Uchiha
I like to think Tobi was Obito killing time until he needed to be more directly involved with the plan. And the idea he was like I'm gonna go troll Deidara is a better character moment than him having some 4D chess reason he was Tobi outside deflecting suspicion. It really feels like it matches up with him generally being a traumatized child who never really got past how bad his childhood was. He decided to go relive it via being an exaggerated goofy version of himself..
Buddy... He's a ninja... Disguises, falsehoods and trickery are supposed to be natural to a ninja; it's not some 4D chess-thing, it is what he's good at. he's probably doing both of things that you mentioned; killing time and misdirecting them.
@@philbuttler3427 What do you mean by that? It is what a ninja supposed to do, have you not read anything about ninjas? Also, the ability to act like someone to deflect suspicions off of you isn't something requires "4D chess-levels of brainpower"; that statement sounds like it is has been made by someone doesn't know anything about criminals or spies in real-life.
I always wished that we could have seen a reunion between him and Deidara in the war arc. Just imagining how shocked, scared and pissed Deidara would be to find out he was actually partnered up with an Uchiha who was playing him like a fiddle *without* having to rely on the Sharingan. The epic burn Obito would give in response would have been glorious. 🤩
They did reunite in the War Arc. Deidara & Sasori argue about how Tobi is all that’s left of the Akatsuki while Tobi is stood there. Unfortunately, Tobi & Deidara don’t speak directly.
There is one scene where Tobi breaks character as he and Dedara ride off with the tailed beast that was inside of Rin if I remember correctly. He becomes incredibly stoic and rides on the tailed beast in silence which Deidara even noted as being uncharacteristic
yes and even a little bit before that when tobi comes upon the uncaptured beast as naruto & co. are dealing with it his voice changes entirely to the "madara" one for a moment (english dub)
I read somewhere the theory that Obito sometimes had spiral Zetsu pose as Tobi when he had to be somewhere else and because spiral Zetsu would always act like himself, Obito also had to act like spiral Zetsu when he was Tobi, so that it wouldn't be weird that sometimes Tobi is an absolut goofball and sometimes he isn't.
This theory doesn't make any sense. Guruguru (Spiral Zetsu) is completely different from Tobi/Obito in terms of aesthetics and design, and when he is fused with Obito he also looks quite different. Guruguru is also more insane than Tobi, Tobi's identity is a less insane Guruguru, Obito took Guruguru, reduced the insanity by 10X and created his persona as Tobi, Guruguru spent the whole time talking about shit, feces, etc... even when we see him in Ninja War he is literally asking the Five Kage how they shit. The guy spent 20 years asking Obito how he shits, he arrives in the middle of the Fourth Ninja War and the first thing he does is ask the Shinobi Alliance how they shit. Tobi is always a goofball, but at the same time he is an S-Rank ninja so Obito has to pass Tobi as a goofball, but a goofball that has a high level of combat skill to make him worthy of an Akatsuki, which makes his acting all the more impressive, as he constantly has to balance the two. A goofball who has impressive physical combat prowess, but who has enough analytical skills to help Deidara in a fight, notices things that Deidara himself wouldn't notice and passes that information on to Deidara in a way that doesn't seem suspicious, while at the same time time that has a good teamwork with Deidara and be useful in some way in the fights. Obito and Deidara had excellent teamwork. From what was shown in the series, the Akatsuki pairs with the best teamwork were Kakuzu - Hidan, and Tobi - Deidara.
When you analyze Tobi you immediately realize that he was not a simple goof, there are several extremely serious things with the character, right in the capture of the Three-Tails, which is the character's introduction, you can see that Tobi is irritating Deidara on purpose, that it's not just Tobi's goofy personality that naturally annoys Deidara, but something Tobi goes out of his way to purposely annoy Deidara. In the fight against Sasuke there are all the fight tips that Tobi gives to Deidara, which is impressive considering the fight between Deidara and Gaara, where Deidara planned the whole fight, but here we have this goof who is giving tips fights for Deidara. It has all of Deidara and Tobi's impressive teamwork. The teamwork that Tobi has with Deidara is impressive, they were supposed to hate each other, and Tobi is an idiot who, in capturing Sanbi asks Deidara what the hell they are doing and what that mission is, but here he is (Tobi) laying mines on the ground, or explaining in detail how Deidara's abilities work. If you go back in the anime/manga to Tobi's introduction in capturing the Three-Tails, you will see that Tobi was advising Deidara in some scenes. In the scene after capturing Sanbi, Deidara tells Tobi that Tobi should talk less and be someone "cool", Tobi should talk less in fights, be someone colder, because if he kept talking a lot or acting like and idiot and in an emotional/dramatic way it would affect his performance in the missions and he could die, so he had to be cool, keep calm and talk less, Tobi's answer is something like: "Deidara Senpai, you say that, but you also talk too much." It's literally Obito talking to Deidara: "You're making the mistake you're warning me not to make." Which is exactly what happens in the fight against Sasuke, with Deidara losing control of his emotions, not being cold, and talking a lot, that is, Deidara is not being the cool guy, while Tobi "follows" the advice and becomes more silent and more focused, being the "cool" person that Deidara told him to be. It's actually interesting Naruto calling Obito the coolest guy ever, although I thought it was hilarious, it's interesting because Deidara told Obito to be the coolest guy, and he actually became the coolest guy at the end of the series.
@@shadowhokage3807 No, it doesn't make sense. 1 - Tobi clearly uses Kamui to evade attacks in every scene, Guruguru doesn't have abilities that make him "intangible" in any way, which means that Obito has to be there 100% of the time to use Kamui. 2 - The main factor that proves that Obito was not inside Guruguru is the fact that Tobi and Guruguru are visually completely different, go see the images of Guruguru and see how visually different the characters are, and it would be impossible for Obito to walk inside Guruguru and no one immediately notices it. - Guruguru's body is a shell, Guruguru doesn't wear a spiral mask, that's his face and it's obviously stuck with the rest of his body, which means the orange mask is a real mask. - Guruguru also has no hair and it covers the host's whole body, we saw this when he merges with Obito (child) and Yamato, which means that Tobi's hair has to be real and therefore that one is the real Obito , or is it a wig. 3 - Obito on the mission with Deidara eats sweets, if he was inside the Gurguru, the Guruguru would have to completely remove the orange mask and the wig, so that Guruguru could open his hull so that Obito could eat the dangos. This scene is the perfect example of how difficult it would be for Obito to be inside Guruguru and because the theory doesn't make sense. I think anyone who believes in this theory probably never thought how difficult it would be for Obito to walk around inside Guruguru while Guruguru wears a wig and an orange mask, and how easily his disguise would be blown. And yes, the orange mask is a real mask, it is held by the black part and is removable, we see this several times in the series. 4 - Anyone who has paid attention to the series knows how Guruguru's body works, and anyone who knows how Guruguru works knows how ridiculous it would be for Obito to stay inside Guruguru, with Guruguru using another disguise on top to hide his abnormal body, while Obito watches all the craziness and uses Kamui, while having his body controlled. If Obito was inside Guruguru it would be easier for him to just come with the "naked" Guruguru. Why would Obito and Guruguru go to the trouble of wearing a wig, a spiral orange mask over Guruguru's spiral face which is already thick and acts like a mask? Do you realize how complicated this is? And how needless is that? In fact this question alone completely kills the theory. 5 - Why on earth would they wear a wig and an orange mask? Why the hell didn't Obito come with Guruguru naked like he did when he met Nagato, Konan and Yahiko? Why wear a wig, mask and all that clothing without the need. Why is Tobi's appearance the same as Obito's appearance in his other appearances without Guruguru? Maybe it's because Tobi is Obito? It would be easier and hundreds of times simpler for Obito to imitate Guruguru's voice and act, just as he imitates Madara's voice and act, than for him to go through all the trouble of having to: - Stay naked or in pants inside Guruguru. - Having his body is controlled by the Guruguru. - While the Guruguru wears a disguise, with a ton of clothes, with a wig and a spiral mask over the spiral face. It's an extremely complicated plan, meaningless and unnecessary, when Obito could do the least without all that fuss. Why the hell is it so hard to believe that Obito was acting pretending to be Tobi, just like he acted pretending to be Madara? 6 - Guruguru's argument being Tobi is involved in: Obito covered up with Guruguru, Guruguru dressed in a lot of clothes, put a wig, a spiral mask over his spiral face to disguise all his strange body, and started acting like a retard while Obito stays inside him watching everything and uses Kamui. LMAO. 7 - In the fight against Team 7 we see Obito's face, and there's nothing white under the orange mask.
Modulating one's voice seems to be a fairly standard ability in Naruto, probably an E-Rank jutsu. We see Yamato adjusting his voice to match that of Sasori/Hiruko, but we see as early chapter 2 Naruto transforming himself into a woman, who I presume would have a female voice. In the anime, he does. It seems to be related to, or used in conjunction with, the Transformation Jutsu, so there's nothing special about Obito also being able to do it.
yeah the voice itself probably is easy enough for someone to do, but mannerisms/personality and inflection are a whole other thing. Obito was acting his ass off as Tobi
Yes that's true, my initial thought was that maybe the sharingan helped with the subtleties of the modulation of the voice as they can fake a writing/signature pretty well also, but you're right, yamato used a technique that's used in real life for voice modulation (see guy pretends to be girl on Omegle)
Its easier to learn to change your voice ,than to throw things with 50 different angles :D voice acting is childplay against it. Mainting it is the hard part, in forcing situations.
Not even Kabuto, it was Black Zetsu who gave Kabuto Madara's DNA. Obito hijacked the plan but he didn't suspect that Black Zetsu was the mastermind behinf everything and was going with his own agenda.
Fr what the fuck happened there 😂 "hey everytime he phases chakra flows into his exposed eye" though his mask could have some kind of barrier or obstruction ninjutsu , even still his eyes exposed
Sasuke attacks Tobi, it looks like he is hit and then he is completely fine without any explanation about why. That was the moment when I knew "ok, this guy will probably be a serious problem later".
Plus considering he was a lackey who barely replaced Sasori as a member. The fact that he became a member was suspicious too, either that or the Akatsuki was desperate for a replacement. Then he shows his abilities like this and it seems he's goofing off, but he has like an even perfect defense than Gaara. Then you start to think... wait why wasn't he in place of Sasori before Sasori? He's clearly better.
Dygo I don't know if this is foreshadowing, but actually when Deidara captured the 3 tails, Deidara made a comment I can't remember, and Obito stayed quiet, which is unusual since he is goofy, but he may have did that because the 3 tail was inside Rin and it may have foreshadowed his and Kakashis backstory as it pertains to her death because of the 3 tails burden
Even if Filler, someone was writing filler you know. Filler don't just fall out the sky, someone has to write it and it may show the intention of the writer in the canon story.@@yinsmoke
Tobi is (to me) a rare example of a character that's exponentially better when you revisit the series. He's hilarious. I think it's white zetsu though.
It's unlikely to be Zetsu (or Guruguru for that matter) because he actually uses Kamui while goofing off. Then again, Zetsu became a perfect Kisame clone and at the beginning of shippuden Nagato made that weird one time Itachi clone with actual sharingan so I guess anything is possible after all.
Acting seems like a pretty important ninja skill, tbh. They can do transformation jutsu in the academy, so you’d assume they’d also try to work on playing a character to avoid being discovered.
if you actually think Madara's dub voice is bad, you need to get your ears checked. Whether it's better or worse than the subbed is debatable, but it does sound good.
I assume that Obito just got to know Spiral Zetsu's character even better as he was literally acting as his body support for who knows how long. Talking into his ear from time to time. Compiled with all of the time in the cave when Obito got attached, and I imagine that the Tobi persona simply provided Obito with some levity. His plans are working, but they are years in the making, this is simply how he amuses himself, on top of everything else. I kind of wish the Tobi persona reappeared for those reanimated Deidara interactions. Also imagine being Deidara and realizing Tobi is now leading the Akatsuki. That would make me want to go back into the ground, immediately.
I liked Obito as Tobi, definitely one of the funniest and greatest characters there is, he was manipulating everyone around him and nobody knew who he was, the ultimate trick artist😁
The fact that he was so goofy is why we all knew he was a level above the other akatsuki. The moment i saw him "phase" so hits or attacks just go through him like a hologram, i knew he was a shot caller in akatsuki and was gonna be above pain and itachi in ability.
About Kisame not acknowledging that Obito was 15 when he puppeteered the fourth Mizukage, don't forget that dude was in a Zetsu suit that made him look as tall as a full grown man.
A quick list of reasons for the goofy facade: -As an homage to Guruguru who had become one of the closest things to a friend that he had. -To hide his own existence and downplay his own importance (This also applies to him pretending to be Madara in regards to hiding his own existence). -As a means to an end so that he could keep an eye on the Akatsuki while incognito and make sure they didn't steer off track of his plans. -When Rin died, his connection to reality shattered and he stopped caring about the world. Acting like a goofball didn't really matter to him because from his perspective, nothing that happened within that reality was important aside from the steps he was taking to complete the Infinite Tsukuyomi. -In combat, he seemed to be treating it as a form of disrespect. He outright trolled his opponents by dominating them despite acting like an incompetent buffoon. -Out of universe, he was functioning as a comic relief character.
Disguises are a ninjas bread and butter, and Tobi isn't the only one who does this. We see Haku in the beginning, how he successfully fooled team 7 with his disguise. Then there was orochi bastard who was so brazenly confident in his disguise that he got as close as possible to Anko, even giving back her kunai with his tongue! How this didn't clue Anko in that this is her old mentor is baffling. He also later sits next to the hokage himself to watch kids beat the shit out of each other. At this point it is confirmed that orochis sneak/disguise skill is 100. We also see how yamato impersonates sasori when on that bridge. If it wasn't for orochi and kabuto already planning on double crossing the double crosser, then yamato would have succeeded. So it's not not far fetched that Tobito can do it too.
You’re wrong lol. 17:36 Obito didn’t plan on being with Rin again. His plan was to become the caster of the infinite tsukuyomi and “save” the world. The justu caster cannot enter the world of illusions
You forgot to say that the first time óbito uses his real voice (Obito as an adult) is during the Guren arc when he sees the three tails , that’s the first time we get to hear his original voice until the mask comes off during the war arc
@@HashimotoDatsu the guren arc is filler, though I've heard kishimoto wanted to include it in the manga but didn't have time, the scene where Sasuke trains with orochimaru and the scene with the three tails, tobi and deidara are canon though.

I don't know about other dubs but at least in the spanish dub for the games (the anime was never fully dubbed) obito only has one voice actor for all his personas and it is really good with all of them in fact some people argue obito's impersonation of madara sounds better than the actual voice of madara
I think tobi is obito's inner child. he's the child that got crushed by the boulder and saw rin get lynched as soon as she came home. that's why tobi is a good boy. obito wasn't like the rest of the uchiha clan. he wasn't emo or moody or a backstabber like they were. 14 year old obito was a good boy. he loved life and lived by a nindo he thought was fair. that's why he kept up the tobi persona when he was alone
- I think it was more ptsd age regression with some dissassociation where he got to play out a childish carefree version of himself that died due to the pain of his life as a child soldier.
There was actually one part in the anime where tobi showed a darker more sinister side to his character. When he was observing the fight between orochimarus men and that crystal style user and all the leaf ninja who were there to seal the three tails, there was a part where obito started to speak with his normal voice. I think it was when he saw yukimaru controlling the three tails. He said something like “Well, looky here” in a dark scary obito voice.
@@TheSamucacs everybody knows it was filler dude, but it was still part of the anime and it was a hint to a darker side of tobi that was hidden under the mask
If i’m not mistaken Obito himself never thought about reviving Madara or even expected it, i think he planned to portray as Madara the whole time long. A reason why he was so surprised when Kabuto showed him Madara’s corpse, it kinda altered Obito’s plans
Tobi was always my fav character when we were first introduced to him, then finding out he was Madara, then finding out that he’s not Madara, he’s Obito made is even better
I do wish that when Deidara got reanimated and was playing catch up, that "Madara" busted out the Tobi persona just to troll with him and act annoyingly haughty to annoy Deidara Senpai, before just dropping the charade as a power move.
Ain’t no way he said the Madara dub is bad. The mass majority of characters are better in the dub of Naruto as well anyways. It’s definitely one of the animes that you could watch dub or sub.
he breaks character in one scene during the crystal style user arc where the three tails is in the lake. He does the deep madara voice. I know its filler but... foreshadowing early on
I thought that Tobi was the wearable hollow Zetsu, and Obito was just wearing him, and would either just let Tobi "drive" and be himself (taking over and/or letting Tobi use his power when he needed to), or they were outright operating separately (while dressing the same/sharing the same identity) with Obito using kamui to enter in to Tobi unnoticed and take over whenever he wanted to. This would have make a lot of sense, but was never confirmed one way or the other. Though his arm did melt off when hit by Minato which may have been a result of Tobi being damaged from the rasengan so Obito moved his real arm into Kamui space to hide it from Minato to prevent him from seeing it and possibly recognizing the scars (it was his crushed side) which likely would have been enough to put 2 and 2 together. Causing Tobi's damaged and now empty "shell arm" to quickly liquify and tear the rest of the way off under its own weight without the support of his actual arm to hold it together/fill it...
It wouldn’t make a lot of sense. Obito can’t simply go in and out and pull an entire armor onto himself without the kamui effect being visible or just wasting a lot of chakra. Also, if he is wearing the armored Zetsu, then the mask shouldn’t even fit very well on him. Another thing is, how can his hair be shown if he’s wearing the swirly zetsu? That is not possible, Swirly Zetsu is supposed to be wrapped around his head. Not to mention you can always only see Obito’s skin underneath the mask, never any sign of swirly. It’s just a stupid way to complicate his character. Truth is, Swirly Zetsu was kind to Obito and they had a connection, therefore Obito inspired his made up personality of Tobi by Swirly Zetsu. As well as the mask
Nah. Goofy Tobi & Adult Obito have the same voice actor in both sub & dub. Spiral Zetsu shares White Zetsu’s though. We also see that Spiral Zetsu is blatantly not attached to Obito at any point as an adult. Obito’s arm melting off is because he literally has a Zetsu arm, which Madara used to replace his lost one. Goofy Tobi & Spiral Zetsu also have differences in personality (name a time Tobi talked about poop- which Spiral Zetsu did in every appearance). Obito just based the persons on Spiral Zetsu.
When the big reveal happen, I just thought “Tobi” just took over while Obito rested and just wallow in depression. They both share the same body, so I assume most of the time Obito is sleeping or hibernating.
Obito specifically picked Deidara because of his hatred of the Uchiha so he decided to troll him till his death, also I wonder if Itachi knew it was Obito and not Madara the entire time, or just Zetsu?
Goofy Tobi literally made no sense and seemed entirely for the audience. His transformation is never commented on by anyone. It's never treated like a grand reveal. It really just goes, "Obito just decided to act like a retard for a few chapters before enacting his plan. It's not even commented on as if to say Obito was resting and let spiral zetsu take over. He really just arbitrarily decided to be moron
I have a theory that may explain this - Obito from time to time allows the white wooden Zetsu clone to take over his body. Allowing him to have a better cover than Obito’s acting or personality. So every time you see silly Obito, it’s not really him. It’s Spiral Zetsu. This isn’t confirmed, but it makes way more sense to me. Now how can he use Obito’s powers? Well since they share a body it’s not too far of a stretch to assume they can share abilities. This can also foreshadow Zetsus having the ability to control other people’s bodies and abilities. Idk. What do y’all think???
Zetsu wasn't the only one who knew "Tobi" was the big bad behind the scenes, though nobody else knew he was really Obito. Nagato and Konan were invited to the Akatsuki by him and Itachi thought he was Madara. Obito actually awakened Itachi's Sharingan and indirectly MS.
The fact that Obito is the only "actor" among ALL the ninjas is weird, there is a whole whooping one other ninja in Naruto who does the most essential job of a ninja and spy, and that is blending into society and be someone they are not, aka, a spy, and that is that one carpenter from the enemy clan, in a filler arc. In history, acting like someone you are not was the bread and butter of a ninja, the reason ninja weapons are things like common tools is because of this, in historical japan, a ninja wasnt that roof running, shadow weaving black clad dude all the time, 99% of the time, a ninja was someone like a gardener, chef or carpenter working around the town. And if you are a double agent in a super edgy terrorist organization, acting like a fool when you are the king of terrorists will throw all heat off of you, so in that, Obito is a top tier Ninja in all aspects.
I appreciate the video! I wanted to do a collaboration with you one day, but I am a no name RUclipsr and have deleted all my videos. But you mostly cover what I enjoy. Could you make a video possibly explaining how misunderstood Uchiha are? Specifically with binds and how emotional they are. Sasuke and Obito are both definitely understood, because they just appreciate brutes and power.
The only time he ever slipped out of either character he was playing was when the Third Tailed Beast was being removed while he was in the forest, and the only time we hear his voice outside of the War arc.
my guess was always that tobi was obito before he lost his innocence and half his body was destroyed,i somewhat dont think it was an act and instead a coping mechanism its not that uncommon for people to retain child-like mentality after going through trauma as a kid because that innocence is much easier on the mind to function with the switch to becoming "madara" was most likely in response to shit going downhill and the obito we know is the shell of a person who remained after the event that ruined his life in all his cold bitter hatred and heartbreak
I think Obito as Tobi was just being his real self. Yes, he had his mission & agenda but did use Tobi as an opportunity to let loose & maybe forget about his problems even if it was just for a moment
I don’t really like most of the voices of the dub, but Madara’s voice is the one I didn’t expected you to say is bad lmao In my humble opinion his portrayal of Madara is awesome and he is the sole reason I play Storm 3 & 4 with the english dub on
I always thought Obito was just honest with Kisame, the guy who lived killing comrades to protect secrets and killed himself before revealing secrets is probably someone you can be pretty open with.
I would like it if he genjutsud himself as an uchia would play of the eye of the moon plan and explain why he acted as tobi when alone / with people who knew the truth. And also foreshadow itachi genjutsuing himself Edit: this randomly came into my head while thinking about tobi but did tobi retrieve deidera's arm from the kamui dimension place it in the forest then pretend to "find it"
If I remember the only time he kinda slips up his tobi persona is after he and Deidera capture Isobu aka the three tails, where while Deidera is talking, Obito is staying unusually quiet.
In the begining i didnt suspect that Tobi was Obito (more cause i watch the anime so Obito doesnt come to much in a talk before) but i always thinked that tobi was some kind of a big deal first because he was already chosed to be part of anatsuki (what it was a real feat, its not just filling a form and show youre resume) and also with the time that they capture the 3 tails and while Tobi was bragging about how he do it , Deidara doubt for a second if it really was him or Tobi who beat the 3 tails so maybe he has something special
Obito was literally mentioned in the original Naruto series when either Gay or Iruka & Kurenai met with kakashi at the monument in the hidden leaf and asked kakashi if those flowers were for obito so this was planned all from the beginning
@@esmundeerkens8212 the character that said that to Kakashi was Yugao( that purple haired anbu who wanted to avenge Hayate's death which went nowhere and her character disapeared afterwards).
Let’s get this clear: White swirly zetsu having a closer relationship with Obito was meant to show that Obito was inspired by him to create that fake persona he needed. As well as the mask, but the mask also symbolises the moment he held Rin’s corpse and the red moon was above him, in the center of swirling branches. The whole “swirly zetsu is Tobi and switches with Obito” thing is so stupid
I only ever watched the series and read the manga every once in a while at my school library. There was absolutely no hint that Tobi was anything more than comic relief until his reveal to Sasuke. So I always have a hard time believing when people say that they suspected this guy was Obito- someone who was never even named until Shippuden. I think it was fairly well hinted at that Tobi was lying about being Madara during the 5 Kage summit, as even the kages were sceptical. I just don't see how people picked up on this so fast before the backstory reveal with Obito's death. (Just got to the part of your video were you said the backstory came out earlier in the manga, now it makes sense).
It wasn't obvious but there were definitely reasons to believe he was something more. Both my cousin and I guessed he was Obito, it wasn't the most obvious reveal but there were hints something was going on. Him being this wacky character in the middle of the Akatsuki was itself weird, but there were also a few moments where Kishimoto hinted at something going on before the revelation.
@@Beck-tr7dd I believe it, but I've never been good at guessing twists anyway so I want to know what made other people suspicious other than the juxtaposition of a comedic relief character in an otherwise threatening organization. Naruto has plenty of gag moments so it didn't seem that out of place to me.
Man got crushed in half, then became a half blind cripple trapped in a cave with no one else for company but decrepit Madara and two plant monsters for years. Makes a bit of a mental and physical recovery after learning how to use his plant goo prosthetic limbs to gain his mobility back, goes outside for the first time in years and the first thing he sees is his rival impaling his love interest like he’s Griffith beating on Cascas cheeks. Coming out the other end of that a bit schizo was to be expected.
I think it's like Spider-Man. When he has the mask on, he feels comfortable cracking every joke that pops into his head. It's also VERY common to develop an over the top sense of humor to cope with trauma.
obito is a schizo just like me fr. After Rin died Obito pretty much had a full mental breakdown, and going forward he disassociated his entire life even going as far to say he "rejects this reality." Through that disassociation and derealisation, he naturally got stuck in his own head and went insane (Madara's heart tag only deepened these negative emotions). But my belief is that Tobi is the amalgamation of his younger self, and the absurdness of this world; he saw what was left of the world after rin was gone and couldnt help but see it as a JOKE. Btw there is one and only one moment that i can think of when Tobis actions could let us believe that there was something more to him, ex: After he and Deidara collected the 4 tails, Obito just layed down on the beasts stomach seemingly lost in thought, then Deidara questions him while hes riding a clay bird thats dragging the 4 tails (One of the biggest reasons rin died). In short Tobi is the joker... society.
There is a scene where Obito as Tobi uses his real voice. It's happens when they are about to capture the 3 tails. That is the foreshadowing that something was up. Here is the scene ruclips.net/video/isKKdyKsHes/видео.html
Obito never got to finish his childhood, so he was able to act childish around his Akatski members. Except for Zetsu and especially Itachi, the remainder didn’t know who he really was. Itatchi knew he was a sharingan user, who helped him destroy his clan. But itatchi always referred to Obito as Madara. Itatchi asked Kakashi about his Sharingan when they were in the ANBU, but Obito was missing from the village a few years prior to that.
Obito’s sense of humor just adds one more layer to his already very complicated personality. His personality obviously changes repeatedly, culminating in when we see the true obito. The real obito also had a very dark sense of humor when he made fun of kakashi for killing rin and just being an overall goon. Unmasked (and masked) obito’s dark humor is very subtle and easy to miss but it shows just how jaded he’s become, since he was getting enjoyment rubbing salt in kakashi’s wounds. I think obito has multiple personalities and he hides them behind masks. As tobi, he adopted the persona of guru guru zetsu, who had merged with him. He also channeled the personality of madara when he still had his orange mask, a lot of people say that but obito’s masked personality was actually very different than madara’s. I think that he fit into his ideal of madara’s personality rather than actually understanding the real madara. White mask obito had possibly the most hateful, dark, savage, and nihilistic personality in the whole series, far different than the real madara who was more of a radical idealist with a saiyan-like love of fighting. I feel like obito was really a different person (or multiple different people) behind the masks which is why he became so vulnerable and changed his personality so much when he became unmasked. Thinking of him that way makes him feel so much more interesting, unique, and profound to me as a villain. (It also makes me hate the war arc just a little bit less.) I think kishimoto really was trying to go for a theme of identity with obito’s character.
Haven't seen the video yet, but I always just asumed that ''Tobi'' wasn't Obito acting goofy, but rather it was Guruguru the Zetsu that Obito bonds with and the one that is on him when he kills all the mist ninja when Rin dies. And I think everyone can agree that Guruguru was kinda goofy aswell. Another thing that works with this is the swirly patern on Tobis mask wich is the same as Gurugurus swirly patern on his ''face''

@@harmonycates9782It changes to Obito’s real voice, haha!
Also when Tobi is talking about Deidara’s jutsu against Sasuke when he’s alone, he briefly switched to his serious Obito voice.
In the scene after capturing Sanbi, Deidara tells Tobi that Tobi should talk less and be someone "cool", Tobi should talk less in fights, be someone colder, because if he kept talking a lot or acting like and idiot and in an emotional/dramatic way it would affect his performance in the missions and he could die, so he had to be cool, keep calm and talk less, Tobi's answer is something like:
"Deidara Senpai, you say that, but you also talk too much."
It's literally Obito talking to Deidara: "You're making the mistake you're warning me not to make."
Which is exactly what happens in the fight against Sasuke, with Deidara losing control of his emotions, not being cold, and talking a lot, that is, Deidara is not being the cool guy, while Tobi "follows" the advice and becomes more silent and more focused, being the "cool" person that Deidara told him to be.
It's actually interesting Naruto calling Obito the coolest guy ever, although I thought it was hilarious, it's interesting because Deidara told Obito to be the coolest guy, and he actually became the coolest guy at the end of the series.
@@Oblivion___actually that theory does make some sense and its not your place to disprove that idea
It would be easier and hundreds of times simpler for Obito to imitate Guruguru's voice and act, just as he imitates Madara's voice and act, than for him to go through all the trouble of having to:
- Stay naked or in pants inside Guruguru.
@@Oblivion___ wow you are really into this to text so much lol
Naruto turned into saske
Yes that's true, my initial thought was that maybe the sharingan helped with the subtleties of the modulation of the voice as they can fake a writing/signature pretty well also, but you're right, yamato used a technique that's used in real life for voice modulation (see guy pretends to be girl on Omegle)
Obito did it before too. When he pretended to be Madara.
Its easier to learn to change your voice ,than to throw things with 50 different angles :D voice acting is childplay against it. Mainting it is the hard part, in forcing situations.
I don't think Obito was ever planning to revive Madara, He was going to perform the infinite tsukoyomi by himself, Kabuto f-ed up.
Not even Kabuto, it was Black Zetsu who gave Kabuto Madara's DNA. Obito hijacked the plan but he didn't suspect that Black Zetsu was the mastermind behinf everything and was going with his own agenda.

Yeah like Idk what this man is on, dub Madara was amazing, he did an incredible job
it’s not crazy that kisame recognized obito with his big ass scar
I remember one of the main reasons I thought Tobi was Obito was because the names are almost the same when you rearrange the letters 😂
That and them both having short black hair made me sure it was Obito😂
Let’s just appreciate DygoKights imitation of Tobis many voices,
I liked Obito as Tobi, definitely one of the funniest and greatest characters there is, he was manipulating everyone around him and nobody knew who he was, the ultimate trick artist😁
In narutoverse, everyone is 6ft++ tall. Even the kids
@@nightowl7261 according to the wiki most of the main characters/villians are around average height.
A quick list of reasons for the goofy facade:
-As an homage to Guruguru who had become one of the closest things to a friend that he had.
-Out of universe, he was functioning as a comic relief character.
obito's transformation into tobi was hilarious, his goofy personality and silly antics brought some much-needed comic relief to the story. 😄
He also brought some laughs with him by acting all goofy & stuff lmao
Tobi is literaly the "class clown when he gets home" kid
Little did anybody know that Hikaku Uchiha was a such a funny guy that his jokes would scale to nuclear star level
You’re wrong lol. 17:36 Obito didn’t plan on being with Rin again. His plan was to become the caster of the infinite tsukuyomi and “save” the world. The justu caster cannot enter the world of illusions

Every shinobi can change their voice at will (Yamato did it to impersonate Sasori at Tenchi Bridge)

Obito was definitely having fun being tobi
he breaks character in one scene during the crystal style user arc where the three tails is in the lake.
I just remember him dropping his bit just a moment when describing how Deidara's C4 works. He's a lot less silly in that moment
When the big reveal happen, I just thought “Tobi” just took over while Obito rested and just wallow in depression.
They both share the same body, so I assume most of the time Obito is sleeping or hibernating.
This is one of the things I like about Obito. Here’s his is with incredible power and he’s just cracking jokes and trolling people.
Obito specifically picked Deidara because of his hatred of the Uchiha so he decided to troll him till his death, also I wonder if Itachi knew it was Obito and not Madara the entire time, or just Zetsu?
Those hashirama cell/ white zetsus got more effect than you think
Goofy Tobi literally made no sense and seemed entirely for the audience. His transformation is never commented on by anyone. It's never treated like a grand reveal. It really just goes, "Obito just decided to act like a retard for a few chapters before enacting his plan.
It's not even commented on as if to say Obito was resting and let spiral zetsu take over. He really just arbitrarily decided to be moron
I have a theory that may explain this -
Obito from time to time allows the white wooden Zetsu clone to take over his body.
I always thought Tobi was Guruguru possessing Obito, never knew it was just Obito acting
How do you think that? When is that ever implied in the series? Thats sadly the most popular dumbest theory in the series amongst the fandom
@@godiloveminininjas4278 Just thought that cause he wore him the night he tried to save Rin and kept wearing him when he met Nagato
And if you are a double agent in a super edgy terrorist organization, acting like a fool when you are the king of terrorists will throw all heat off of you, so in that, Obito is a top tier Ninja in all aspects.
no i think tobi was a relief for obito. he could be a kid again.
Sasuke and Obito are both definitely understood, because they just appreciate brutes and power.
him with the four tails tho as "tobi", he was sad, or atleast not normal "tobi"
Obito developed a borderline personality after Rin died or it's the insane Zetsu part of him.
The only time he ever slipped out of either character he was playing was when the Third Tailed Beast was being removed while he was in the forest, and the only time we hear his voice outside of the War arc.
The moment he did a jutsu that dosent do anything its the best Tobi moment
😂
my guess was always that tobi was obito before he lost his innocence and half his body was destroyed,i somewhat dont think it was an act and instead a coping mechanism
its not that uncommon for people to retain child-like mentality after going through trauma as a kid because that innocence is much easier on the mind to function with
the switch to becoming "madara" was most likely in response to shit going downhill and the obito we know is the shell of a person who remained after the event that ruined his life in all his cold bitter hatred and heartbreak
I think Obito as Tobi was just being his real self. Yes, he had his mission & agenda but did use Tobi as an opportunity to let loose & maybe forget about his problems even if it was just for a moment
Now this is realistic. He pretty much views the real world as hell, and having that view on the world surely screws him up.
My headcannon is that Obito exaggerated his childhood clumsiness amd foolishness to an extreme extent as Tobi.
I don’t really like most of the voices of the dub, but Madara’s voice is the one I didn’t expected you to say is bad lmao
In my humble opinion his portrayal of Madara is awesome and he is the sole reason I play Storm 3 & 4 with the english dub on
I always thought Obito was just honest with Kisame, the guy who lived killing comrades to protect secrets and killed himself before revealing secrets is probably someone you can be pretty open with.
I would like it if he genjutsud himself as an uchia would play of the eye of the moon plan and explain why he acted as tobi when alone / with people who knew the truth. And also foreshadow itachi genjutsuing himself
Edit: this randomly came into my head while thinking about tobi but did tobi retrieve deidera's arm from the kamui dimension place it in the forest then pretend to "find it"
Finally my man I always appreciate you. 👌🏾👌🏾
Tobi is my favorite Obito besides the white mask.
If I remember the only time he kinda slips up his tobi persona is after he and Deidera capture Isobu aka the three tails, where while Deidera is talking, Obito is staying unusually quiet.
Ah yes the classic sub meat rider
Ah yes the classic dub coper
@@DygoKnightthe dumb is way better
@@DygoKnightnah youre wrong on this dub is fire
He eats with a mask and sasuke cuts through him...
So thats the things weird before he Swift his personality
@@justinarzola4584 yes exactly!
It was yugao
The anime added a hint there was something more in a filler episode where Tobi breaks character.
True. His childhood was kind of stripped from him. This was probably a way to have that lost fun
Obito: "Someone will die."
Tobi: "...of fun!"
Damn, I was really enjoying this until I heard the incorrect opinion of sub being better than dub, for shame
The way I see it when Obito was acting like Tobi, it was half acting and half letting himself be the goofball that he was as a kid.
oh... your one of those people who care about if someone watches sub or dub....
obito is a schizo just like me fr.
Filler
@@DygoKnightso what is it's filler? What's wrong with filler? 😊
Thumbs down for shoving your opinions the dub in my face byeeee
(It also makes me hate the war arc just a little bit less.) I think kishimoto really was trying to go for a theme of identity with obito’s character.
im pretty sure it was just a genjutsu obito cast on himself so that kakashi wouldnt recognize him.
This would also make the thinking in a different voice make some sense as it would be Gurugurus thoughts and not Obitos
