  • In March 2020, while I was sitting out the first lockdown in Winterthur - Switzerland, I got my New Zealand permanent residency approved.
Ironically, I had decided to not go back and stay in Europe because of family and, yeah, the pandemic didn't make it any easier.
I did return last June to work as a snowboard instructor for Coronet Peak. A dream come true (I have applied every year for Coronet Peak since I got certified back in 2016, got in only this year).
It was back in 2015 when I first arrived in New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa and met my partner. After that first year, we quickly decided to go for residency.
Here's an account of all the work and money we put into the application these five years. Some things might have changed since 2015, make sure to do your own research.

Hi, congratulayions on your PR. I finished my application if a Partner of New Zealander Resident Visa just a week ago. I am marriage relationship with my New Zealand citizen husband for more than six years and we cureently living in Cook Islands. We have four yeat old daughter whk has also NZ citizenship. My conserns is about my reference letter. I couldn't get any letters from our local people. I had asked people three months ago and they all said "Yes", but noone could hand in and I started thinking that's waste of my time😂. So I asked one kiwi lady and three of my frienfs of my original country. They all know my husband and daughter very well. Do you think it would be alright?😅

I wonder why it was so difficult to get letters? Maybe they didn't know what to write? I would recommend maybe giving them an example of a letter, written by you.
      Good luck.

How long did you have to wait for your permanent resident visa

I applied 2 years after I got my resident visa and it took 2 months for the visa application centre to process it.
