    You can float watersprite, but you can't its lookalike wisteria. you probably have wisteria thereif it has been rooted in substrate. Watersprite roots rot and decay if rooted. Wisteria is a stemmed plant with splayed eaves with crenelations like a maple leaf or oak leaf, where as watersprite has a root base with a central drown of fronds, and at each V in the leaf it can sprout a daughter plant.

    Ed the ponds have an overflow to keep them at a steady level. What tops the pond up when there isn't enough water? It uses untreated tap water?

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад +1

      Great question!
      Yes,
      We have an overflow to control excess water and we use a few different options to add water to our features.
      The first is simple,
      We manually add water as necessary with a standard garden hose.
      Another option we routinely use is a simple float valve(similar to what’s used on a toilet tank) it can be connected to an outdoor spigot or irrigation system.
      The final method is more costly, we’ll create a large underground rainwater harvesting tank to capture rainwater which is then used in the water feature, these tanks can hold 10’s of Thousands of gallons according to different project requirements.

    Kenan is definitely the man to talk to. He had one get out a couple years ago. He thought someone had snuck in and snatched it but it turned out that the little bugger had climbed that fence around the front yard pond and then scampered into the backyard, climbed over a much taller fence and jumped into one of his big man made ponds. He went months thinking someone had stole it and then one day, while he and another guy (maybe brian barczyk) were checking in on them, they came across him. For a turtle with flippers, they're still apparently pretty agile.

    That turtle thinks he has died and gone to heaven. 😁😁😁😁😁 I have been in Cullman Alabama visiting with my daughter and grandson. We went to the sportsman lake park. They have pond with geese, ducks, fish and turtles. You can buy food to feed them so we walked out to the end of the pier, put money in the little feed station and started feeding them. My daughter was freaking out how many turtles came up to the pier. She has been there many times but never noticed all the turtles. We went to the concession stand and got an ice cream and cups of feed. We went back to the pier and as soon as we stepped on it a turtle about a foot an half wide maybe two foot wide heard us step on the pier and started racing us to the end to get some food. We were laughing so hard. The turtle was going as fast as he could to meet us at the end of pier. I have never seen a turtle swim so fast. 😂😂😂😂😂 y'all are awesome. God bless

    Hi Ed have a question. A lot of pond builders are using Rocks and gravel in the ponds. My pond included. Can rocks in pond give you PH problems like high readings? I know limestone does raise the PH I was wondering if any other rocks do the same.

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад

      Yes,
      Rocks can alter your pH where are you located?
      Have you checked your source water?
      Do you get any runoff from rain into your pond?
      You can check your rocks by pouring a weak acid over them(Vinegar) if you see lots of bubbles and foam the acid is reacting with Calcium and Magnesium Carbonates releasing Carbon Dioxide, if this occurs it will impact your water chemistry……

    • @mikearmando
      @mikearmando 3 года назад

      @@EdThePondProfessor Thanks for getting back to me. There is no water runoff from anywhere. I am located in Long Island NY. The pond is finished. The pond has 11 tons of rocks and 8 tons of gravel. I have a wetland filter. I cannot test the boulders that are in the pond already but I could take some of the gravel and test it with the vinegar. My night time PH is 7.2 - 7.5. It is in the day the PH goes up to 8.5 - 8.8. The KH is around 73 - 80. The pond has aerators also. The large aerator I was wondering if that would raise the PH in the day because of the Co2 exchange. I had steady PH for months around 7.2 - 7.5 but this of month of July something changed those readings. The pond is 3 months old. Could it be because it is a new pond and the algae on the rocks are growing? All the other tests are fine. The pond is crystal clear. We did have 3 days of very heavy rain in the beginning of July. 6 inches of rain. I cannot pin point the spike in the PH in the daytime. I have plenty of air in the pond 3 aerators 4 waterfalls. Just don't know. I do not want to put any chemicals into the pond which could even make it worse. The one thing it is a steady night PH at 7.2 - 7.5 and 8.5 - 8.8 readings. Any ideas?

    such a great pond for him but not suitable for the full lifespan or growth of the turtle. pignose are native here and this is maybe a 3rd of the size I'd build due to being a very active and large species but the design is perfect besides the slip of the sand bank which doesn't really matter unless breeding. if breeding in the future which I think should be a priority for anyone with one of these guys, they require a much steeper sandbank. as they lay their eggs on a steep sand bank and when the big rains come in the wet season the eggs roll in to the water which triggers hatching. but yeah I'd definitely plant a similar pond on the largest scale possible and try to acquire more of these amazing turtles along with archer fish and other non aggressive Australian native fish such as rainbow fish. consider checking out a flyriver turtle farm where breeding stock are kept in large partly covered dams definitely an absolutely stunning scape for any Australian turtle

      This is a good size for Titan, they’re commonly kept in Aquariums!
      This is a 500 gallon pond and we’ll need to reevaluate as he gets larger……

      I used it inside of our Biofalls to aid with the Filtration process,
      It’s an Upflow system so I placed it on top of the Filter Mats.

    FRT never leave the water besides laying eggs and that's only the females. They are 100% aquatic.

      P.s if we make it out of August in these extreme temperatures I honestly think it'll be consistent in September as well. Depending where you're at but so far, no such thing as mild temps this summer. it's hot everywhere! 😳

      I’ve never seen tadpoles eating fish???
      All of Tadpoles in North America would be considered “grazers” meaning they will graze/feed on algae and periphyton which grows on aquatic plants, rocks, sticks, etc……
      Frog tadpoles will be eaten by a wide variety of fish, large aquatic insects, water snakes, etc…..
      But if they’re Toad tadpoles, nothing will eat them because they secrete a toxin which protects them from potential predators.

      My fist pond fish were carps I had six of them and now I have only two of them left, I read a documentary which It said that when carp eat tadpoles dies because the tadpoles eat the internal body.

    So are you ever going to go back and fix flairs pond (your company is not legit ) you go to big you-tubers and get your 5 minutes of fame and then when there ponds start to break in a week or month and you (fix) it and falls apart again so much for good quality. By the way don’t charge over a grand for a repair job that you know won’t work

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад

      It’s up to Flair to call us and let us know there’s a problem.
      We stand behind everything we build!
      We will happily return to fix anything that has been done wrong by our team.
      If however we determine that the Problem is due to other factors such as lack of maintenance, damage to any of the equipment, extensive power outages, etc……
      We will happily repair it but we will not warranty that because it was not a problem due to the products we installed or our installation practices.
      If you’ve ever owned an Ecosystem such as Fish tank, Animal Enclosure, pond or even a Small garden you’d understand that it takes routine maintenance to keep it working properly.
      Gardens require weed control and additional water,
      Ponds require water, cleaning of pump intakes, bacterial treatments, etc….
      Fish tanks need water changes and monitoring of nutrient levels,
      As you can see nothing is maintenance free,
      I don’t know what’s happening with Flair’s Pond but I haven’t heard from him so I can’t answer that question……
