Just attended a funeral of someone close and this was the exit song and it’s just stuck with me. I’m at a stage of my life that there are many goodbyes. I’m sure to use it for very close future goodbye. What a piece of music. I grew up on classical music and this hits the spot. I’m glad there is a song for almost every emotion.
When I first heard this song years ago by Andrea bocelli and Sarah brightman, I was listening with my mom on her bed, and we had tears streaming down our faces. There is an extra dimension in hearing the English translation. My mom died a year ago and this was our song from the time we first heard it.
No one does this song near as beautifully as Sarah. A little side note: she originally wanted to be a ballerina and was training for that and someone discovered that she could sing,and encouraged her to go in that direction instead. The world has been Blessed with her Angelic voice ever since.
This song can be interpreted in so many ways, from loosing a loved one, being apart from someone you love or starting your own new chapter with or without the person that holds your heart. I first heard this song when my now husband was away in training. Whenever I look at the sunset, I know that his looking at it too and even though we are thousand of miles apart that we are together.
Ever since my grandma and grandads have died I put this song on and just sit there every night the way she sings this song is beautiful I can’t help but cry every time

The first time I heard this song was on the "Soprano's." A couple of years later I lost both my parents to cancer within the same year. They both had in home hospice care and the hospice nurse who lived there, for the period of their deaths, had a pamphlet about dying and it read very similar to the lyrics of this beautiful song. It was metaphorically saying that when you pass, it's like going on a ship across the sea to a new seashore where you start a new life. It was a very hard time in my life, but this song comforted me.

I think this might be one of my favorite songs of all time. Any version, especially the duet. Beautiful composition, beautiful lyrics, beautiful singing, tears and chills all around.
Finally, I understood the words! But even without them, the music touched my soul. But understanding the lyrics, made me understand the sorrow I felt when first I heard this song.

I never knew that there was an English version of this deeply moving song!, the original was played at the funeral of my cousin's grandmother and even now a year later I am still reminded of that sad (and depressing ) day every time I hear it. it didn't help that the service took place during a sleet storm and as there where some logistical issues with arranging transportation to and from the church where she was a parishioner the funeral was held in the local crematorium (which is a drab 1960s structure with very little soul), consequently I spent the rest of the day feeling sorry for myself and it was only after I saw my cousin again at her wedding that I really started to feel better about the whole thing.
A very powerful and emotional song. It’s no wonder it’s one of the most popular choices for a funeral but as my Dad would like it for his own, I wondered why do people chose the Spanish version when they don’t understand what it’s about apart from the English words. At least in the uk anyway. So having found this and the English lyrics I’m even more sure that this is the right song for him because it now speaks of my Dad and my Mum in their travels over the sea and on land. It’s beautiful. I always think funeral songs should reflect that persons life. Although it’s up to the individual. Now I just have to find this version on an album for when the time comes. The first draft is on Sarah Brightmans “Hymn” but it’s not as powerful as this. Someone has commented that it’s on a Spanish album. I thought I’d found it, but it’s the Spanish lyrics. I shall keep looking and maybe have to find another singer.

I vividly remember her funeral...and Sarah beeing there...te devastation we all felt: Geraldine's twin boys left w me in my house...as long as I'm here...this Sarah's song always makes me sob about Geraldine's life so successful yet, wasted w her suicide. I never knew that there was an English version of this deeply moving song!, the original was played at the funeral of my cousin's grandmother and even now a year later I am still reminded of that sad (and depressing ) day every time I hear it. it didn't help that the service took place during a sleet storm and as there where some logistical issues with arranging transportation to and from the church where she was a parishioner the funeral was held in the local crematorium (which is a drab 1960s structure with very little soul), consequently I spent the rest of the day feeling sorry for myself and it was only after I saw my cousin again at her wedding that I really started to feel better about the whole thing.
A very powerful and emotional song. It’s no wonder it’s one of the most popular choices for a funeral but as my Dad would like it for his own, I wondered why do people chose the Spanish version when they don’t understand what it’s about apart from the English words. At least in the uk anyway. So having found this and the English lyrics I’m even more sure that this is the right song for him because it now speaks of my Dad and my Mum in their travels over the sea and on land. It’s beautiful. I always think funeral songs should reflect that persons life. Although it’s up to the individual. Now I just have to find this version on an album for when the time comes. The first draft is on Sarah Brightmans “Hymn” but it’s not as powerful as this. Someone has commented that it’s on a Spanish album. I thought I’d found it, but it’s the Spanish lyrics. I shall keep looking and maybe have to find another singer.
