Meshuggah lighting director Edvard 'The Wizard' Hansson is the 6th member of Meshuggah.
He plays an instrument that makes God nervous ... the Lighting Systems.
He is never audibly presented in the published albums. However, he is there in a quantum state ... a 'Schrödinger's-Lighting Genius' entangled 'Spooky-Action-At-A-Distance type of realm.
HE inspired me to branch out from being a musician to a laserist with a CDRH variance license.
Swarm will always be my personal favorite song. It was the first Meshuggah music I heard. It was like meth ...
It was then that I stopped playing harmonica and bought an Ibanez GIO 7 string... and then started playing the harmonica with a REVV-4 + Devil's Triangle distortion pedals in the signal while staring at the Ibanez.

Shrödinger's lighting genius is funny. Good story

I completely respect your opinions on this ranking. Mine might look different, but ultimately Meshuggah is one of those bands that don’t have a single bad album. Would happily listen to any of these on a road trip or a secluded home listening session.
Agreed about TVSOR though. The vocals needed to be slammed harder, but still thoroughly impressive they played it live off the floor.

The vocals sound "strange" on Contradictions Collapse because both Jens and Fredrik performed vocals on it.

Have not listened to a lot of Meshuggah but I'm glad Catch 33 is getting some love, one of my favourite albums of all time. The feeling of uncovering some dark secret about the universe is exactly how I felt listening to the album! So glad someone else feels the same.

Everyone has a subjective ranking and favourites of course BUT imo it branches out in eras.
If we sum it up i'd say they were cooking in DEI and then came Chaosphere and Nothing which are the most important albums honestly absolutely game changing and then the exploration between Nothing and obZen and then between obZen and Immutable.
The formula peaks at obZen which could be said it's one of their best then they just kept evolving variations of that outstanding level they reached.
Honestly every album is awesome and each one has it's own vibe.

I agree, it's fascinating to watch the evolution through the eras.

Great breakdown!. I pretty much agree on what you said here. "I" is my favorite also. The first time I heard it when they released it I was really blown away. Best 21 min of music they ever released IMHO. I love ObZen and Catch 33 also. Dancers to a discordant system is another pieces of awesome music. I think that after ObZen the three following records are less solid and cohesive works by their standards. That doesn't mean they are bad at all, those records are fantastic, but not up there with the others. For instance, I like Inmutable, but I think it has less memorable moments than their previous works.

I’m personally a huge tvsor fan and I think the reason why the vocals are a bit less produced is because they are just a single track. There’s no doubling. I respect your ranking though. It’s well thought out! Here is mine.
    TVSOR
    Nothing
    Koloss
    Catch 33
    Obzen
    Immutable
    Chaosphere
    Destroy Erase Improve
    I/Pitch Black
    None
    Contradictions Collapse

Rational Gaze is just a COOL TRACK!? (i respect ur opinion)
I personally found Immutable to be my favorite album, something about the production on the guitars makes it seem so damn heavy, and personally i think faultless is amazing, and They Move Below is fucking glorious. at the end of the day, we all love Meshuggah.
    my top tracks are:
    1. Demiurge
    2. Rational Gaze
    3. Abysmal Eye
    4. Break Those Bones Who Sinews Gave It Motion
    5. In Death - Is Life & In Death - Is Death
    Albums:
    1. Immutable
    2. Koloss
    3.
    4. Obzen
    5. Catch Thirty-three
just in case someone wanted to compare

That's crazy, Koloss is my favorite album and my favorite tracks are the ones you gave the lowest ratings, lol. I love Swarm, The Hurt that Finds you First, Behind The Sun... And what's more crazy, my least favorite album is obZen. There's something weird with my brain, I know, lol

Not at all, just different qualities of Meshuggah that we enjoy. Maybe in a year I'll agree with you, it shifts and changes. Thanks for watching.

I'm honestly very surprised you didnt mention "Straws pulled at random" from Nothing. I think Nothing has the best songs from Meshuggah, next to Catch Thirtythree and Obzen

I can easily say where my top 3 is:
    Destroy, Erase, Improve
    Nothing (Original Mix)
    Koloss
Obzen might be the honorable mention, but I'm the unique fan who counts Parvus as the best track.
    I also destroys!

If Aztek two step was five mintues long it would be the best song Meshuggah ever wrote. It's a song I listen to when I'm angry to get more angry.

Koloss is an album I can listen from Behind The Sun to Demiurge without skipping any tracks. It has amazing great flows and a bit slower but with more finesse in the playing. And Behind the Sun is clearly underrated.
