Incredible Trumpet players!! Pete was a great lead player and exciting jazz player.. Conte was one of the all time great jazz player.. he could also play lead sometimes… They both were very close to my family.. My uncle Ray and Pete had the tiniest mouthpiece’s in LA like a bent dime!!and still great sound!!! Conte played a Mt Vernon 10 3/4 c… exact same mouthpiece as Tommy Porrello… Conte used to get a kick out of Porrello playing same mouthpiece because he didn’t know of anyone else who played one… Both were legends in LA and all over… Thanks for sharing this!!
My uncle Joe was definitely a great classical player.. but he was top call in LA on Jazz, Big bands etc…. My uncle Ray..not as good as my other uncle Joe in classical… I don’t know about Condoli’s playing too much classical but they were both first call studio players!!!!
I am assuming that link was to the Tonight Show with Buddy Rich sitting in on Horace Silver’s “Nuttville” arranged by Jon LaBarbera. As legend has it, the band was SIGHT READING that thing! I have played it with Chicago bands many times and that break down chorus in the middle is wicked hard - LOTS of gnarly barbed wire! That band was amazing.
