I love convertible pants for hiking as well. You can start with the full pants, and then zip off the bottoms to have shorts when it gets too warm outside. They are ultra comfortable and versatile!
If you live in a humid buggy area not only should you wear long pants but also avoid skin hugging clothing - mosquitoes can bite right through them. I am getting so frustrated with women’s outdoor clothing today being absolutely useless. The men get real protective clothes and women are just left with nothing.
Rachel Campbell I agree - so frustrating! The thing that gets me (and I am super jealous of these women 😃) is that when you find women’s clothing that is decent- it is made for women with A and B sized cups! I am large chested and short so finding things that fit is a crap shoot.....hopefully someone will help the busty women hike without skintight clothing showing off the girls and being super big everywhere else. I need a medium/large top but that never fits the chest area🤣. Someday......I usually buy men’s stuff, but it never fits right!
@@jcgnbd7410 I am a slim b cup woman and I can attest to that. Even I who can easily find sizes that fit me perfectly, can clearly see the disconnect between outdoor clothing and curvy, busty, and plus sized women. After I graduate college and get my feet on the ground I would love to start an outdoor gear and clothing company catered to the diversity in body sizes and shapes, especially for women.
Excellent advice. Exactly the system I use with an exception. I live in northern Utah and color comes into play in the desert. Pure white clothing is the coolest combination I've found to hike in. I must emphasize though, loose white clothing, not the skin clinging style as you want air circulation. And one of the most important accessories, a four inch, or wider, full brimmed hat. Baseball caps shield your forehead but little else. In real desert conditions, covering skin is so important. Thanks for the video. Good job.
I literally live in Columbia Anytime capris and pants. We are frequent campers and I wear these on the trail, in the kayak, at the campsite and at home. They are quick drying and stretchy and oh so comfortable!
I got the Columbia Saturday trail pants last year and I really like them. They are stretchy and comfortable , have pockets and you can clip the bottom to make it sort of ankle pants
Hi Amanda! Thank you so much!!! I literally decided 2 days ago that I wanted to pick up hiking as a hobby! I really love nature and want to explore what’s out there. To say I am under prepared is an understatement however I m very thankful for you helpful tips! I’m definitely going to invest in the proper clothing, tools etc!!! Thank you once again 😁!
i’m not sure if you have mosquitos in utah, but here in southern ontario, it’s impossible to hike without 700 mosquitos circling your head 🤦🏻♀️ i’m sticking to biking now and so excited for fall hiking. i second the prana pants for hiking. they got me through a long, hot, aggressive multiday hike in morocco
Thank you so much for your videos... watching them has encouraged me to step up my hiking game and minimize my camping gear. A video on hygiene on a trip would be helpful. One for a back country trip and one for car camping. Just a thought!! Thanks again.
I needed this video soooo badly. I live in South Texas we cotton it up bc it’s hella hot. All our hike are pretty short maybe 4 miles. We are going to Yellowstone and I laid out all these cotton tops for us. You SAVED us!!!!!
My favorite outdoor pants are the ll bean vista camp pants! My favorite pants for rock climbing approaches where I have to butt scoot over rocks are the rei trailsmith joggers
Love your videos! Maybe you can do a future video on more affordable but still good quality clothing and equipment. I could never spend $300 on a rain jacket 😬
I love videos like this! They help me get ideas for my own outdoors wardrobe. Question: This video makes it sound like you don't wear leggings when camping/hiking; however, you're either in shorts or leggings in your other videos. Have you since changed your mind? (Asking because I have yet to find pants that fit me well and are comfortable - after 10+ years of looking - and keep landing back on leggings. It seems most advice is to get pants, but in practice, many women still wear leggings.)
I’ve done some photo work with a company called Kuhl out of Salt Lake. They make some amazing outdoor/hiking clothing you should try out if you haven’t before 👌🏼
I loved this video, lots of great information! Since I'm still fairly new to hiking I'm still gradually expanding my hiking wardrobe. I just got myself a pair of hiking pants that I'm looking forward to testing out when the weather cools down a little more.
I live in a ticky area so almost always hike in pants. In the warmer months I find a looser fit cooler. I use the Columbia Saturday Trail Pants but love my Pranas when it's a little cooler. I'll have to try the ones you have. I like the flat waist band for backpacking. Fun edit on this one.🌻
So glad I found your channel before my first backpacking hike on the escalante Route in Grand Canyon! Probably horribly difficult first trip for beginner backpacker lol 😬
For my females, especially if you have thicker thighs, I wouldn't recommend shorts. You will chaff and it hurts!! Stick to pants, I learned the hard way, hiked 12 miles with shorts and it was HORRIBLE.
OK so I stopped by to figure out what to wear during fall but you kind of didn’t touch on that and as a beginner I am lost I’m thinking that Patagonia hoodie actually could work? I’m starting out at like 50° and ending up at maybe 65 or 70 and hiking makes you hot too so do you think that that Patagonia hoodie would work that you love so much? I usually run hot. So I’m not looking for warmer layers although I do have some when it’s time. But right now it’s still sunny.
Thankyou for another great video I just about have all my gear for my day hikes and eventually my through hikes the last thing I need is the right clothes so this was a really helpful video for me so thanks for making it just don't think I'd looks as good in those pants lol from a guy's prospective what kind Of pants does your partner use I was looking at one here in Australia that you can unzip and turn into shorts so that way you have pants and shorts all in one
So I just asked Nick, and he said that he likes the Prana Brion pants and shorts, and the Zion shorts which I think are the same material, but they have cargo pockets! Thanks for watching. I'm really happy to hear that the video was helpful! 😁
I love this video but I hate that when you were going through your outfits I was like oh hey Athleta and was right about which items were from it. 😂 Also I just got that fleece in a different color and it’s amazing!
I've never tried the North Face hyperlayer hoodie, but from what I can tell based on the material and product description, it does look pretty similar.
Hi! I am going to Zion & Bryce Canyon on Monday and I will probably do the classic hiking courses, such as angels landing, narrows, emerald pool and etc. Would you still suggest long shirts and wind jackets? Cuz I know it’s super hot in Utah right now 🤔
Yea it is definitely hot in Zion right now, but it's also monsoon season which means afternoon thunderstorms are common. If I hike in shorts and a tank top, I still carry the other layers in my backpack just in case. I hope you have a great trip! Zion and Bryce are so incredible! 🤗

Liking the creativity in this one. The one time you don't bring something will be when you regret it.
Loved this! Fun editing too. 🤗 Part 2, underwear, bras, socks, shoes, accessories?
Great idea!! Thanks for commenting! 😁
Really great suggestion! I would love to see this as well 👍🏼
Thanks so much for watching! I had a lot of fun putting this video together, and as always, I hope it's helpful! 💚

Consumer demand. I'm a guy who can't find hiking boots because my feet are too wide.

I wear the same pants most of the time and I love them so much!!
Thank you for mentioning style! I felt so silly worrying about style when looking for clothes. Great recommendations!
Loved this. Would love a budget version. If I spend $1000 on hiking I would feel bad when my kids are only eating Ramen....lol (although tempting :)

Here in Utah, thankfully the mosquitos really aren't too bad compared to other places I've hiked!
ahh this video is so amazing! I have been having so much trouble with finding hiking clothes that are functional and cute. Thank you for sharing!!

This was such a helpful video. I am going to go on my very 1st backpacking trip and this video has helped answer some great questions!
thanks so much for the video! i'm going on a day long hike with a few friends and was really struggling to come up with an outfit to wear
I wear under armor heat gear compression leggings backpacking in Texas. No problems with tears or snags.

Helly Hansen Loke rain jacket i think is a good choice, not too expensive and has served me well through some storms.
Very good advice about hiking. I am grateful for this video.
This video is very helpful. I just subscribe, love your energy can’t wait to watch more videos!
Hello Amanda, thank you for sharing this very informative video. All the best to you. Take care and stay healthy. 🤗
Great video. Trying to pack hiking clothes always results in an existential crisis for me!
Glad it was helpful!!

@@amanda.outside I'm also a huge fan of the capilene cool daily shirts. The long sleeve is my next purchase.😎
It's the best! 🤗
@@TheHikingChick1 is the capilene cool long sleeve see through? Asking for my wife!

Very informative! Thanks for sharing.
I need more clothes. I live three miles from the Atlantic, so all I have are board shorts, lol.
Excellent video! Thanks so much :D
Excellent video as always💛
Really helpful Amanda, thank you 😊 Simon

I'm thinking about wearing yoga pants under jogger pants or cargo pants for a fall hike.. What do you think about that?
Good video with solid advice. Thanks
Hi, thanks for the video. Could you please share which T-shirt are you wearing?
You should look into Grip6 socks for hiking.
So newbie question what do you wear under your hoodie top? do you wear a tank top or just a sports bra? what are good sports bras for hiking?
For my females, especially if you have thicker thighs, I wouldn't recommend shorts. You will chaff and it hurts!! Stick to pants, I learned the hard way, hiked 12 miles with shorts and it was HORRIBLE.
What should you wear if you kinda have to go on a hike/walk to a mountain but you never did before so you have no real mountain clothes?

Hi Amanda, do you think I should size up the Arcteryx rain jacket?
The sky cannon doesn’t go to a link that looks like your pants (light gray), is it a different pair?
What if you have to wear bladder control underwear? How would that work into the layerings?
THanks I like thre advice because im a novice
Hi, my family and I are visiting Arches on September 20th. Any tips on clothing for Utah on September ?
I love this video but I hate that when you were going through your outfits I was like oh hey Athleta and was right about which items were from it. 😂

nice shorts!!!
especially in utah since ya know here in utah the weather is unpredictable and bipolar 😂
What is your height? I'm 5'1 I might be able to pull of Capri as full leg pants
You are to funny. In a good way. God Bless and stay safe. 🇺🇲🤙🏼

do you know how the capaliene hoodie compares with the North Face hyperlayer hoodie?

Dark clothes absorb heat & make you hotter, while pastel light colors deflect the hot suns rays.
Polyester is Ok. But Idk. I like cotton that are breathable ( the skin) .and I use
Skin So Soft. ( SSS )
AT NIGHT. and on my dog by spray bottle .too.
