    My late father use to use regular earth worm for salmon whereby he'd use several hooked in a format that presents as a small octopus with a light weight bouncing amongst the boulders. He did do pretty well 20 year ago mind, thanks for another great upload 👍

    Keep at it George, you'll get one...on such a small river they can move up very fast but they to tend to rest at beat 5. The river has traditional salmon runs sept and oct so catching trout is a by product of that. Also, on beat 5, try an up stream cast from the concrete as some of the salmon rest a few yards upstream

    • @adventurefishinguk
      @adventurefishinguk  Год назад

    Salmon fishing is never easy. Catching salmon on the fly is the best way to catch them for me very satisfying when you catch them on a fly you have made yourself. Have a trip up to the highlands of Scotland next year and I will take you out fishing for salmon and pike etc.

    You need to let you spinner/lure sink to the depth where the salmon lay before you start your retrieve. A lot of salmon will hug the bottom or sit in holes. Retrieving soon as the spooner/lure hits the water will keep it high in the water, over the top of them.

    I always fish a little past river season as I’m terrible with dates my pal Steve always reminds me when he walks past roll on March river beats canals, lakes and reservoirs any day. I was using a size 0 brass spinner last week for perch all I was getting is pike typical..

    • @adventurefishinguk
      @adventurefishinguk  2 года назад +1

      Yeah dates can be a bit confusing! Pike seem to love tiny spinners at the moment, I have a friend who targets them using them. Really shows it’s more of a right place at the right time matter than what’s on the end of the line

    As has been said, you cant choose what grabs hold of the bait ........... especially on a mixed river where there are numbers of trout and coarse fish, fish with worms or maggots or whatever from October onward and you will end up hooking trout. Spinners, if there are Perch, same result

    English river seasons make zero sense. It's absolutely fine and safe to catch trout until the end of October, as evidenced by their agression to chase a size 3.

  • @jamslockyer
    @jamslockyer 2 года назад +2

    Trebles are so bad for fish especially for small trout, I hope you debarbed and maybe consider going for single hooks. I use them on my mepps and it doesn’t effect the hook up rate.

    • @jamslockyer
      @jamslockyer 2 года назад

      Good but I still don’t like them, I used to use them 20 years ago but saw the damage they cause to perch, pike, trout, chub and sea fish. They simply aren’t needed. Just convert them to barbless singles.
