Chesterton is a great spot. Was there over Columbus Day in 1988. I photographed 63 trains during daylight and into the evening. Another, unconnected person, took video of the entire day as well. I wish that the three railroads would agree to a railfan park where Porter Tower once stood. It would be ideal.
Actually the border runs through the junction. Most of it is in Porter but I like to say Chesterton because people associate the location with both places anyway. That way, both names are in the video title so it doesn't matter which of the two potential viewers are looking for, it that makes sense.
Hey, I want to go down there for my birthday and was wondering if you have ever had issues with police telling you to leave or railroad employees getting mad at you. Thanks

mkmcclure That would be a great idea to build a RR park, but I don't think the 3 RR's would ever agree
Awesome catches! Feels like I'm watching a train documentary
Thanks! I try to make it feel that way. Working on getting an Indiana Chicago Line doc done this summer. Stay tuned!
This is one of my favorite arias to rail fan!!
Love the heritage unit! Great video!
Wow that was very busy!!!! Nice video!
Lots of UP power on those NS freights.
Just for the record Porter Junction is in Porter, IN, not in Chesterton..

Interesting to see a couple NS freights with only UP power.
That's just completely normal power sharing in the horsepower hour system
So would those be NS crews then? I'm not from the US so not very familiar with the system.
