How to get and fly a helicopter - In GTA Liberty City Stories, despite the fact that airplanes and helicopters are in the game code, normally the player can't fly them. Even with this limitation, however, in two different missions the player can steal, fly and even save a helicopter inside the garage.

It's a shame that Rockstar cut helicopters from the game. It's probably because of the textures of the rooftops, that were imported from GTA 3 and they were a bit too lazy to make them, so therefore, in order to hide it, aircraft is not available.

Yes terasss2, the reason you gave is absolutely correct. The textures of most of the buildings in staunton island are not made completely both in gta iii and lcs. Also, along with incomplete textures, the roofs are not solid causing you to fall and stuck inside the rectangular shape of building.

Helicopters weren't in the game because Rockstar didn't want people to fly to and visit the locked islands early

The creators of the video were wrong. On the PSP version, you need to destroy the helicopter and push the wreckage into the garage (they can be restored on the PSP version).
so the helicopter was fully coded and added to the game but yet it doesn't let you fly them?
Rat Man they probably took the code from older gtas to make npcs/AI be able to fly helicopters + when modeling a vehicle in gta games you need to add a drivers seat, doors etc for the vehicle to be functional so they did that to make the npcs/AI be able to interact with the helicopter but as a result players can also interact with it.
TorchIt WIZ but why? why did R* disable heilcopter? And why did they release a patch to lock the door of the heli once people were able to glitch it?
SplitLighting because they didnt want people abusing it cause the map wasnt made for helicopters (less roofs less visible textures less resources required - more resources available for bigger city ) hope that helped, sorry for late reply.
It's aite. R* should know that you won't stop people from getting helicopters! It was one of the most sought out vehicle in gta 3 history.

I've just pass about 1hr practicing to get the fucking ambulance park correctly
to find a locked copter door... (From 6 a.m to 7 a.m)... All that for nothing...

I used a much difficult method to get the helicopter on PSP version. I don't remember what mission it was but the helicopter landed on the front side garden of the airport, where the entrance to the subway is.
The doors of the helicopter were locked. In order to get in you need to use a cheat which leads to other people following you. Then you need to just keep trying to open the door even though it's lock. The other characters assuming you are going to enter the helicopter also get into the helicopter, it's not locked for the ai characters. Once they get in the helicopter quickly take out the sniper and blow of their heads. Then the door of the helicopter will automatically open and throw out the dead body. Get into the helicopter through that open door.

Nostalgia video, I watched this when I was 6, me and my dad trying to figure out how to get a helicopter in GTA lcs
I tried this like 3 years ago and I remember the door was always locked when I actually tried to steal it...
it was then patched by rockstar

yeah the door is locked in PSP's version. I tried the other way, blew the helicopter, pushed it from the park's side, all the way to the safe house with MANY tries (i kept pausing and resuming game(psp go)), and just when i finally push it near the garage, the wrecked helicopter disappears no matter what i do. With that said, its impossible to store wrecked helicopters in the garage.
Experienced the same but what I did is to activate the "people will follow you" cheat and once you try to open it, it will be locked on your end but on the passenger side it will be opened.
Once the passenger got in, you must take a headshot of him while he's inside the chopper and from there, you can now steal the helicopter
This was the first GTA, I've ever played. And it's awesome...

i have a problem at the mission false idols on my PSP i was at the spot i did everything correct, later the helicopter was next to me i went to the helicopter and i could not steal it because the fucking dorrs are locked i tried to push the into the garage but it disappeard everytime

the first heli-when you enter it you should get it stuck under the stairs of the building the heli is on. the heli is completely indestructable no matter how hard you hit it or anything. next go to the checkpoint and after the cutscene jump quck to the helicopter and try to enter it. now you can go anywhere with it but cant save it after the mission. if massimo's associates dissapear from the memory automatically the heli dissapears also. no matter if you complete or fail the mission you cant save it in the garage after it. however it is usefull to collect 98 hidden packages and complete most of the stunt jumps as it is indestructable. only water can destroy it.

i tried it but toni just ran up to the helicopter and couldn't open the heli door because it was locked maybe or I wasn't standing in the middle
can't get it in the garage without it blowing up. any tips or tricks? and once it is in the garage and I save, how am I suppose to get it out without it blowing up?

On the ULES00151 PSP version, when you push the heli wreck into the garage, it disappears
It's weird how Rockstar doesn't want us to use helicopters so that we cannot go to the Ghost Town nor see the missing textures, but they made up a complex piloting system.
I have both EU (ULES00151) and US (ULUS10041) version of the game and both tricks works. Check if you have the same? version, if not, maybe it's patched. If yes, you're doing something wrong.
BTW, on PSP take an helicopter is a lot easier, just use the CheatDevice or download from gta-downloads[.]com a savegame with the helicopter saved inside the garage.

I play LCS on psp and the False Idols method doesn't work. The helicopter doors are locked so it won't let you in and using flamethrower to make the people inside get out doesn't work either.
Back in the days where you can't climb and you need to jump on top of a vehicle to get to the top :p

I have psp and i did it on the "false idols" mission. I do everything right but when im on the roof and try to get in, i can't get in. What should i do.?

I find it interesting how at least in the PS2 version seemingly every Maverick doesn't have its interior rendered when viewed through any window aside from the doors.

I dont know if this works, but if in the False Idols method the heli is locked maybe you can snipe the pilot death and maybe it will stop flying and steal it i dont know if it works

J* Actually this was the noob idea of shooting pilot to death but the wierd thing is that gta san andrease when you get a jetpack and fly on the LSPD you cannot see a driver

J* What if you kill the pilot while he's over the rooftop? It would need a lot of precision but maybe it works?
My method: activate the cheat "people will follow you". It will land the helicopter on the road/or in its exact place when you activated the cheat and the pilot will come out and follow you but the door remains locked. Try to open the door and you will notice that the pilot can enter despite that it is locked. From there, with good accuracy and timing, do a headshot to the pilot while he's inside. When achieved, the door should be left open and from there you can ride it. This needs practice and patience.

For the 2nd method, the helicopter is unlocked ONLY in PS2 & Android/IOS versions.

I tested to steal the helicopter in "The Passion of the Heist" mission for PPSSPP on my phone.
And also, I tested to steal the helicopter in "False Idols" mission on my phone (The Mobile Version, not the PPSSPP or PSP Version).

Its kinda hard to pull off but in that first mission where you take the heli off the rooftop if you manage to take it and get it stuck somewhere (I managed to get it stuck in between the stairs that lead up to the yellow marker) and then proceed to continue the mission by going in the yellow marker quickly go down the stairs and the heli will be stuck but the npc will try to take off but if you time it right you can hijack it and you'll be able to fly it pass Chinatown without it failing the mission I did this on psp years ago so who knows if it works on ps2

very good how to video. i did these 2 tricks the way described here on my ps2.
other cool tricks: cars on water cheat allows entry to blocked out area, jump onto jet wing at airport for fun high altitude ride. use slow mo cheat to help stay on the wing.
fun game with better camera and controls than gta 3 but with worse graphics on the ps2.

The 1st one works perfectly. But the 2nd one did not work. I tried opening the door but the door seemed to be lock. May I know what the problem is?

Ez method to obtain heli in psp version: there is a debug code to spawn hunter in the mission Karmageddon. It's all proof but I'm not sure how to save it in the garage.
To think that I played it this game almost 10 years ago and only now I get aware of this
I dont know why they removed the feature to fly normally, like making helicopters spawn, if they did it easy to fly in vice city stories

GUYS, there is an another way to get the helicopter on the calm before the storm mission without mission failing. first, when massimo landed the heli, you have to get through the stairs right? so, when you got to the yellow thing. SPAM SKIP CUTSCENE as fast as possible. in the cutscene the heli should escape but it will be canceled by the skip cutscene. if it didnt work, try to get to the yellow dot and wait before massimo landed the heli, then just wait. when the cutscene appear just skip asap. then the heli will be in the roof, you could fly it anywhere. the funny thing is that massimo and the dealer is invulnarable at everything lol. have fun!

When u take the chopper from massimo u can ride it for few secs after that it just comes mission failed

You can only fly and either save using the second method.
The door of the Heli on 2nd method is locked, and heres what i did. I blew up the heli and fail or complete the mission (idk how i did back there but i quitted lcs for 3yrs ago) then I used a heavy vehicle to push the heli into my garage. It was an exercise of me keep pushing tho :/
adding heli's would cause problems with rendering and means they would need to re-write draw distance code. The game was originally created for PSP and since the hardware was limited at the time I assume they found it pointless. People complained and when VCS came out we got some heli's and two airplanes. :D

For the False Idols, the most challenging parts are parking the ambulance in the correct position and jumping to the bridge.
The 3rd method (heli crash of the mission 'the passion of heist') doesn't work as well. When I pushed the heli wreck inside my garage, it dissapears immediately before closing the door.

@@meekhailbrahma4650 the last method with the blow up helicopter in the garage won't work in PS2, the calm before the storm and the false idols work on the PS2 as long as the trick with the Karmageddon Hunter (look it up if you don't know what I am talking about)

Red Mjdayy Well I got used to how I can fly. Just swaying side to side gets you going fast in a direction as long as you make sure that no buildings are in the way.

I tried on the False Idols mission but when I tried to steal the heli it had its door locked, I tried to shoot the pilot with sniper but there was no pilot in it, anyone knows why? PSP version on PSVita
I actually was able to obtain the helicopter by doing the false idols destroyed helicopter trick. To do this, destroy the helicopter in false idols while doing the mission, pushing the helicopter with a car or a truck to your garage (the vehicle could blow up in the process) and then making the tail face right on your screen whilst looking at it at all times, it was very hard but I was able to save it. Also, I don’t recommend taking out the helicopter often, because it requires a lot of time to get it out of the garage, and when you do, it’ll be damaged. So, the helicopter is more of a trophy than a usable vehicle

Yeah, 1 and 2 are a must, I have never played 1 tho because I can't find it in a store, but I have seen walkthroughs on youtube and it looks pretty bad ass. Sr 1 was more serious tho because it was trying to be like gta, but then they became different in 2 and 3. The creators of SR were originally workers of rockstar, but the left and formed volition, so that is why there might be a lot of similarities in SR1. But it is still a great game

The second method is just frustrating . I cannot get to jump on the wall just when I need it (but I get it when I trying out of the mission). Any advice rather than trying a million times?
You can use a PCJ 600 or just park the ambulance there before all this and use only one other vehicle to travel

I found another interesting thing about "false idols". If you try to use a hunter(attack chopper) to destroy the bullet proof patroit, the game will tell you that the patroit is bullet proof. This means hunter's rockets are Identified as "bullets" by the game.
I got the chopper on my first try, then flipped it trying to push it into the garage! :( I've tried about 20 times since then and can't redo the jump. I was doing it with a motorbike (crashing and making Tony land on the ramp), might be easier with an ambulance like you did. Guess I will try it again later.
Don't know why the didn't just include helis to begin with. So what if not all the buildings are solid. Glitches shouldn't matter when you are just messing around, they are fun.

this game will always be one of my favorites of all time, and coming back to replay it either on ReLCS or my phone, I always save the Maverick no matter what. And now Sal’s black and white Banshee
i remember downloading a hacked save that had an apache spawn at the staunton island safehouse, was insane that you can use helis but the game doesnt actually allow you to find one legit
For method 2, I used a PCJ-600 and hit and jumped the ledge on the left between the first beam and the second, then walked towards the front of the first beam, then climbed it, then jump off at the top, then from there, I stole the helicopter and let the mission fail.

I've had all the psps. 1000,2000,3000 and go. I've got atleast 60gb of games indeed the psp is great. But I am holding out on the vita until it gets smaller and gets a few game releases I'm interested in. Maybe a gta or ace combat game specifically made for the vita.

Well, I thought in the idea of a savegame, but it's more much fun to achieve it by yourself.
Anyway, as I said, when I pressed triangle to get in the helicopter, Toni couldn't open the door and the heli just flew away. How could it be patched anyways? I mean, it's not like you could just download a newer version of the game or update it like in the ps3...
The doors to the heli are locked how do I fix that?
