  • The Nevada Subdivision stretches from Sparks, to Elko, Nevada.
This video covers a short stretch of the Nevada Subdivision, from Lockwood, Nevada at Mile Post 251, to Patrick, Nevada at Mile Post 258.
Union Pacific Mainline and Local operations can be found on this section of the Nevada Subdivision, as well as Amtrak's California Zephyr.
We begin at Mile Post 251, at Lockwood.
Union Pacific crosses the Truckee River while paralleling I-80 East/West. After crossing the river, trains cross a large fill, before cruising into a short cut in the hills.
Continuing East, we reach our next location; Mile Post 254, at Mustang.
I favor this location for Amtrak 5, solely for the layers of mountains that can be found in the background. Located at the East end of Hafed Siding, the mountains provide a scenic appearance, whilst heading into the desert.
Mustang Canyon, located at Mile Post 255 offers a unique vantage point of trains racing past a photogenic scene, crossing a lengthy Quarter Mile fill. Photographing trains on either end provides an interesting look at this hard to access location. The two videos featured show a summer day at Mustang Canyon, as well as a snowy winter evening.
The siding at Patrick is our final location we visit along the Nevada Subdivision.
Starting at Mile Post 257, we work our way from the west end of the siding, to the east, at Mile Post 258. Only one shot from the west end is featured, as most of my time is spent on the east end.
Waltham Way, located at Mile Post 258.22 allows for a great view of eastbound traffic, which is the most common on this line. On either the North, or South side of the track, pleasant views of trains racing across the Truckee River can be found.
An industry that the Union Pacific LRA61, The Fernley Flyer, serves is also located here.
Mars, a pet food industry, takes covered hoppers and is served Monday through Friday on the westbound trip back to Sparks.
