Recording quality has infinitely more affect on sound quality than true lossless encoding. I have RUclips rips in my library that I thoroughly enjoy. Postmodern Jukebox is a great example.

I agree but I will say that there is most definitely a very noticeable difference atleast for me between youtube and mp3 files for example. There is some recordings on Spotify mainly some older not as popular songs that I do prefer youtube versions. Now the difference between an unconpressed and mp 3 file is not as noticeable, atleast to me.

Hey Kenneth, very nice video. I've also bought the Alice as well about a week ago. It sounds absolutely amazing with my main complaint is the "dsp" sound that is minimal once any music or audio is playing. I've also asked Moondrop about this, and apparently a firmware update would come within this month to help get rid of the sound. Like you've said, it is a music focused TWS but one thing you didn't touch on was the in app EQ settings. I believe those tunings, although you can't customize it yourself within iOS at least, makes these TWS absolutely amazing and easily recommendable.

Absolutely agree with you, though unfortunately the update doesn’t make the electronic noise (that’s the best thing I could describe it) any less noticable, only making the timeout shorter so it stops earlier than before (firmware v1.2.0) In any case it’s a shame parametric EQ isn’t in iOS app which adds one more reason to potentially avoid Alice, but to be honest it’s still one of the best wireless sound out there (I love in-ear target preset!) and totally worth the money if SQ is your top priority
I love wireless buds and these are really cool, I'd like a pair of em even though they're on the larger side. I have the Sony XM3s and XM4s, I'd say these buds are even a bit bigger then the XM3s, especially with that case design and those things were already chonky lol. Good thing Sony actually listened to fans and fixed a lot of that for the XM4. As much as I wouldn't mind picking up a set, that price Is definitely a factor. I live in Canada and these things are going to be like 320 bucks before import fees. Thats a hard sell when you can get a pair of XM4s on sale for cheaper then that pretty easily.

Large, but interesting looking set. I tried the Nekocake but returned them after the audio quality seemed to diminish after using the app and did not go back to the original signature even after removing the app. I want to dry a Moondrop set so this may be a route to go. Thx!!

I don't have a high bar when it comes to earbuds. I have POCO Buds in the Genshin Edition and the look really cool, sound great and the features are nice. Mic quality is typical for a wireless bud. Not the best, but you can understand everything.

I was looking for a tws and this just comes in the perfect moment. I would to see a comparison against the new samsung galaxy buds 2 pro, which is my other option and supposedly one of the best if not the best sound tws according to some other people I asked about. Well I haven't tried these new moondrops (I do have sparks though). If it's just quality maybe going for the new moon drop is better. Since they are cheaper. I do have the buds 2 pro (came with my phone) and if you want decent sound quality, in a compact body with practical features. Simply a good everyday use case tws, go Samsung. I use them in the gym with no worries of them falling out. And before I got them, I never really cared for pass through/noise cancelling. But now I get it. I never liked listening to music when outside since I hate not being able to hear my surroundings. Pass through completely omits that.
RUclips recommended me this😅, I just enjoy checking out M3 (Japanese music album) And thought the thumbnail are also M3 Album😂. Now i want a set of earpod lol (The artwork look so nice)

For this price, background noise is not acceptable, considering these are targeted towards music only (no ANC etc). When you are using headphones for productivity or gaming and sitting there with no music or really any sounds it is really annoying. And I had examples of TWS that had none of that.
I initially thought so, but the more I listen to it the more I just enjoy the amazing sound quality and forget about the noise (it’s not audible anyway). It’s worth mentioning that this is unlike the Sabbat E16 case where the hissing is so loud you can hear it on quiet parts of music or very low volume listening, the only part where you notice it is just before and after music is paused This all might sound that I sided with Moondrop so much as if I’m paid haha but that can’t be farther from the truth 🤣 of course if technology allows I would love to have something clean and free of hissing, especially if I’m paying this much so yeah I feel you from the buyer’s perspective, and at the end of the day I’m here to share my real experience & thoughts to help you with your decisions

So I really like my moondrop arias, just not the biggest fan of the sound signature, though I did manage to get a good tune using crinacle’s autoeq in peace equalizer apo. Aria if you love a much more balance sound signature, its not so high on the shape and doesn’t actually deliver the obnoxious bass that edm lovers like, alice on the other hand sound a bit high on both. But honestly speaking, the clarity on both device is just absurdly good.

Kenneth, does the company that made the Moondrop Alice buds state what the Ingress Protection rating is for these Alice buds? Wondering if they're dust/water proof, or not.
They don't have any official IP rating which may or may not be a dealbreaker for some, but I believe most earbuds would reach IPX4 which should be fine for sweating (not rain and submersion) and it should be the same with these Just for your info, Moondrop has never provided any IP rating perhaps to prioritize the budget more to driver quality (and other things), but this could be just my own thoughs haha and personally I've never had any earbuds died because of sweat so shouldn't be that big of a problem
A few things I'm skeptical about. It doesn't have Ldac or something similar. I CAN tell the difference between certain codecs. And also it only has 1 10mm dynamic driver. Just like with all high end house speakers having a driver for the Lows and mids another for the highs is now becoming very common in new ear bud offerings. I don't understand the need for the Alice's to be so big if they're just housing 1 10mm driver?
I just got these recently, i'm curious as to why when using moondrop link the default for both EQ's (The preselected and parametric/custom EQ) is supposed to be their own moondrop target. But when i set it to moondrop target and then go to the parametric EQ it changes the tuning even though they're both on default. When switching to the parametric EQ they sound more punchy in bass. Almost like a db boost in all the same frequencies, so it's another tuning altogether?
I wanna upgrade my aria to a wireless setup, wondering if I should get this or just get a utws5 for my aria? they are both at the same price range in my country at 120-130

Looks like a nice TWS but the issue for me is the price. For that much I'd rather get a cheaper TWS and there is still money left for an excellent IEM.
The design is quite bulky. How's the ear fit? I have a Sabbat E12 Ultra and I rarely use them anymore since the bulky design irritates my ears in a short span of usage. I replaced my dailies with Soundpeats TrueAir2+ and Sabbat X12 Ultra (both Earpods design)
Yep but once you wear it honestly it’s not much of a problem, super comfortable and soft to the touch, just looks a bit.. different 😆 But! Now that you said half in-ear fits you better then actually it’s quite hard to say if this will be any different

I thought it just me that can't tell the SBC & AAC (i'm using Nekocake, but AAC on nekocake have problem especially unstable connection) So tuning it's the only one matter after all? Do those chip make different on feature capability like ANC & Ambience mode?
Yep as far as sound quality goes driver type, quality and tuning matters most. DSP in the chips are very important too, but codecs are really the least thing anyone should worry about, although it's the easiest to check and compare because it's written clearly on paper. Anyway if we're talking extra features like ANC/transparency, latency, always-on voice assistant--chips does matter, better chip could also mean longer playtime as well! Although I think there's some degree of customization by the vendor so it's not all the same across all manufacturers
So im here to update, ordered this last week and it arrived today and omg you were totally right! Alice sound much better than sony and it could also be eq, only thing that it cannot compete with sony is bass but by cant compete doesn't mean its bad at all. Definitely an upgraded and im totally happy with the alice :)
I mean at the end of the day it comes back to you, but for me the Dolby Atmos setting (on POCO F4 GT) serves only to make the phone speakers nicer, but not with headphones

LC3 was only announced at CES 2020, it's still very new and will take more time to trickle down to bluetooth earbuds as well as transmitting devices too (phones, laptops, etc) We haven't seen seen any new earbuds in 2022 that supports LC3 simply because the chips just don't support them yet (think QCC3040, 3046 or even the flagship 5151 used in ALICE), these earbuds are in development months or years before, and at the time these are the best chips available so there's nothing that can be done Now of course I am excited to see what LC3 brings to the table, also AptX Lossless and AptX Voice, lots of new stuff around Bluetooth audio gear but for now, we have to wait

Solid list and I absolutely love them all, but if I have to pick one, honestly Alice will stand on top of sound quality game by a significant margin But I don't know what kind of sound you like and what genre you listen to. The Alice has a balanced tuning that focuses more on vocal presence and clarity on the treble, so let's say if you like punchy and prominent bass then it's not for you On the other hand the Soundcore (either L3P or L4) are all superb when it comes to bass, so far SQ wise I don't think there's much difference too but I need to listen more, and as a bonus hey they're much more packed with features! And as always Sparks is a tried and true earbuds which has long battery life and great sound, exactly what you want. Haha so what will you choose? 🤣
@Be3SouL hellooo, I have also experienced the w1 as I have the gt1 pro haylou before. From my personal experience though i don't think there is a difference for w1 ang alice, not sure about the sparks. For the w1 the music tends to be "not crispy" as the volume increases (70-100%) while in the alice the music quality doesn't suffer. I have listened mostly on Spotify premium and I also tried tidals higher codec but I really cant tell the difference of 200$ alice vs 20-30$ w1. At the end of the day I gave the w1 to my girlfriend and kept the alice because its the expensive one and doesn't get muddy on higher volumes.

More drivers doesn't mean better quality. Take KZ as an instance. GOOD multi driver iems are more expensive generally, because it's hard to develop.
I thought LDAC is sole proprietor only for Sony products. Thus Moondrop Alice TWS has Aptx instead.

I just got these recently, i'm curious as to why when using moondrop link the default for both EQ's (The preselected and parametric/custom EQ) is supposed to be their own moondrop target.
But when i set it to moondrop target and then go to the parametric EQ it changes the tuning even though they're both on default.
When switching to the parametric EQ they sound more punchy in bass. Almost like a db boost in all the same frequencies, so it's another tuning altogether?
I love my Sparks, but needed ANC so bought Soundcore Q45. How do these compare to Q45s?
Is it better than AirPods Pro 2?
Is it good for recording sound? Like singing on app like smule?

Looks like a nice TWS but the issue for me is the price. For that much I'd rather get a cheaper TWS and there is still money left for an excellent IEM.

The design is quite bulky. How's the ear fit? I have a Sabbat E12 Ultra and I rarely use them anymore since the bulky design irritates my ears in a short span of usage. I replaced my dailies with Soundpeats TrueAir2+ and Sabbat X12 Ultra (both Earpods design)
Yep but once you wear it honestly it’s not much of a problem, super comfortable and soft to the touch, just looks a bit.. different 😆
But! Now that you said half in-ear fits you better then actually it’s quite hard to say if this will be any different

Yep as far as sound quality goes driver type, quality and tuning matters most. DSP in the chips are very important too, but codecs are really the least thing anyone should worry about, although it's the easiest to check and compare because it's written clearly on paper.
Anyway if we're talking extra features like ANC/transparency, latency, always-on voice assistant--chips does matter, better chip could also mean longer playtime as well! Although I think there's some degree of customization by the vendor so it's not all the same across all manufacturers

So im here to update, ordered this last week and it arrived today and omg you were totally right! Alice sound much better than sony and it could also be eq, only thing that it cannot compete with sony is bass but by cant compete doesn't mean its bad at all. Definitely an upgraded and im totally happy with the alice :)
I guess these are not good enough. It lacks transparency mode and Hearing Aids mode. $190 I better add a little more and get Airpods Pro 2 instead.

I mean at the end of the day it comes back to you, but for me the Dolby Atmos setting (on POCO F4 GT) serves only to make the phone speakers nicer, but not with headphones

It doesn't support latest lc3 codec. This is 2022!!
LC3 was only announced at CES 2020, it's still very new and will take more time to trickle down to bluetooth earbuds as well as transmitting devices too (phones, laptops, etc)
We haven't seen seen any new earbuds in 2022 that supports LC3 simply because the chips just don't support them yet (think QCC3040, 3046 or even the flagship 5151 used in ALICE), these earbuds are in development months or years before, and at the time these are the best chips available so there's nothing that can be done
Now of course I am excited to see what LC3 brings to the table, also AptX Lossless and AptX Voice, lots of new stuff around Bluetooth audio gear but for now, we have to wait
When you buy phone that support LC3, just buy a new TWS that supports that codec.

Hey there! Solid list and I absolutely love them all, but if I have to pick one, honestly Alice will stand on top of sound quality game by a significant margin
But I don't know what kind of sound you like and what genre you listen to. The Alice has a balanced tuning that focuses more on vocal presence and clarity on the treble, so let's say if you like punchy and prominent bass then it's not for you
On the other hand the Soundcore (either L3P or L4) are all superb when it comes to bass, so far SQ wise I don't think there's much difference too but I need to listen more, and as a bonus hey they're much more packed with features!
And as always Sparks is a tried and true earbuds which has long battery life and great sound, exactly what you want. Haha so what will you choose? 🤣

@Be3SouL hellooo, I have also experienced the w1 as I have the gt1 pro haylou before. From my personal experience though i don't think there is a difference for w1 ang alice, not sure about the sparks. For the w1 the music tends to be "not crispy" as the volume increases (70-100%) while in the alice the music quality doesn't suffer. I have listened mostly on Spotify premium and I also tried tidals higher codec but I really cant tell the difference of 200$ alice vs 20-30$ w1. At the end of the day I gave the w1 to my girlfriend and kept the alice because its the expensive one and doesn't get muddy on higher volumes.
